That was a very poor period. Habs looked sloppy, outmatched and spent the period scrambling trying to actually create something...but they didn't create a thing...canes will feel good knowing that they dominated that period...
I've opted to watch curling whilst checking on the Habs during commercials. By the look of the shot clock, it's a one sided game. Good one to skip mayhaps.
Because this games sucks and the curling isn't too close I got wondering about the KK draft. Went back in old posts and found this. I should be pushing for the kid from the Mooseheads, but I still prefer the TkaCHuk kid at 3.
We don't like him now but I stand by it. I don't think it would have impacted the trade for Suzuki that fall. No way to tell how having him in the lineup vs KK would have impacted the next draft where they took Whiskey at 15. Or how it would have impacted future management changes. Or if that cup run would have happened. But I still say that was the play. Mind you I was also still pushing for 'the kid from the Mooseheads' too (Zadina) and he's had less success even than KK.
I never watch the post mortems after HNIC. Just tuned in for shits n giggles and they were no lie, highlighting a leaf 4th liner who played 6 minutes. So phekking bizarre.
Opted to watch 'Where the Crawdads Sing" with Mrs. Maritimer. Recorded the game, after the steaming pile of dung 1st period I put it on FFWD. The movie was by far the better choice. I don't think I will be partaking of any more Rocket games this season. It's no fun watching an AHL team getting manhandled night after night. I seriously doubt they win another game this year.
I was actually thinking last night, when I saw the shots on goal, if Carey was watching that game last night he no doubt thought: "I know what that feels like." Gotta give Full Monty credit, he stopped 47 of 50.
That was awful last night, Montreal literally spent the night in their own zone.
You can tell this mostly AHL team are out of gas. They simply cannot compete with the big boys anymore. As a matter of fact, all the bottom feeders are the same, getting stomped on every night now, the Tank is on for the last two weeks. Montreal should finish in the 5 hole, as I said, I doubt they can win another game. I'm praying that Bedard or Fantilli is the reward. Unlike last year these guys are the real deal, not some big kid who put up a few numbers against weak international teams. If I was Hughes I would include Slowkovsky in a deal to get a number 1 D from somebody. And, they can't go into next season with all the smurfs, Lep, RHP, CC, Heinz, something has to give. Can't hide all of them.
I dunno In my mind I’m keeping Slavo He’s a power forward and they are rare he just needs a bit of time and the occasional talking to I agree with the smufs tho Bob The Gainey tried that without success It’s not a game for midgets Whiskey has a proven track record and RHP I think is punching way above his weight class but time will tell I think all this just shows that we are years away from being competitive Better get comfortable in the tank Steve once said that the necessary high pick draft quantity is three and we only have one so far We must have faith in Hugo and pray to the hockey gods Go Habs
Is he a power forward? He doesn't play like one. Hughes said he wanted a player who would be the best one in 5 years so I guess we will see. I doubt it but that's just me.
If the team can stay reasonably healthy they won't be bottom 5, possibly a .500 team. They will give Monty one more year to see if he is the guy. There is speculation Hughes gave Primeau the start in Philthy to showcase him. It could be part of a play for Carter Hart, he is just coming into his primo (pun intended) years, he'll be 25 in August. Jean Luc may play a role in all this too, he could speed things up and, if Bedard falls in their laps, all bets are off and the rebuild is on a steep fracking upward curve.
Riley Kidney, from Hammonds Plains Nova Scotia with a goal and 5 assists as moe's Gatineau Olympiques beat up on my Saint John Sea Dogs 9 zip last night. Maybe it would have been better to miss the playoffs this year after winning the Memorial Cup. Anyway, the Habs have tons of trade bait for the next couple of years. The newest Viking, Heinimen aka Beer is tearing up the AHL with 6 goals in 6 games, leave him Laval to get those guys in the playoffs at least.
After HuGo shocked us with the Romanov-Dach move last year, I won't even try to pretend to know what he'll do this year. But I know even though our season is nearing its end, the off season promises to be one of the most interesting in a very long time. Like you, picking at 1 or 2 I believe fast tracks the rebuild. Otherwise it's 3 years out before this team is competitive.
I'm sure HuGo has already set the table for something. I think Jean Luc is a foregone conclusion, especially if the Jets blow a playoff spot. I've read that locker room is a mess, many of the players don't like shitflea and who can blame them. What a frakking douche that guy is.
But do the Habs really need the PLD drama? I say…well what I say will get eaten by blogger so I won’t say it…My one off season prayer is for the Habs to not sign that drama queen sob. Stick to the MSL plan and build with what they got. Stay the course…please…🙏
Just read wrong Savard is out for the season. When will it stop. Is there anybody left? We'll be hanging our young Dmen out till the end. Looking forward to the off season. Should be interesting. Hope nobody gets hit by a car. Go Habs
Watching Corey Connors leading at the Texas Valero Open. He got his first PGA win 4 years ago at this event. It was more fun watching his wife and her reactions to his putts back then.
While I understand the desire by the Quebecois media and fans to have a home grown superstar, I don't think this is the guy.
- before this season, his best year was 61 points. - 60 points in 69 games is a better pace but he is still a career 0.69ppg player (0.66ppg before this season). Is that worth the money he will want? - I don't like that he quit on his team (even if it's understandable because it was Columbus...and was Torts the coach?) - Like Drouin, I don't think he has the intestinal fortitude to be 'THE GUY' in Montreal. - Taking what one reads on the internet with a grain of salt, but it's been said that he has expressed his desire to play in Montreal. If this is true, then that just speaks to his lack of character, because he is currently a Winnipeg Jet and in no way should a player indicate that they'd rather be playing for a different team. It stinks of disloyalty to your current team and it hurts that team if they decide they want to try to move you. - If his name was Peter Woods, is there even a discussion about him? Again, I know the history and the desire but why to we have to go through this with every decent francophone player, dating back to Vinny...and probably before him (who was smart enough to say no thanks as a player)?
In the end, if he becomes a Hab I'll welcome him with open arms...until he quits on the team.
- I don't recall the francophone media clamoring for this guy in particular, this was all started by his agent ... Pat Brisson? Bergy wanted him at the draft but got out-maneuvered when Columbus took him 3rd. I think he had a deal in place with Edmonton at 4th but Jarmo K. screwed it all up. - Not a big point getter, I don't think he gets large. He's currently at $6mil, Hughes won't overpay for him especially if there is a trade and they can sign long term. I'm guessing a little less than Nick. - OK, he bailed on Columbus but that was probably more Torts. He doesn't want to be in Winnipeg long term but he said that up front. Laine wanted out of the 'Peg as well, and we saw what happened in Calgary with Gaudreau and Tkachuk, hey it happens. - I don't believe he will be anything like Drouin and he doesn't have to be 'the guy', that's Captain Nick and to a lesser extent CC, PLD will be more like Kessel, a very good secondary player. - To my knowledge he has not quit on the Jets, has played hard and rumour has it he is currently playing hurt. That is no quitter. I've read shitflea is the problem in the room, this from Jets fans. - Even if his name was Peter Woods, I would take a big, fast C/LW who possibly could be a point per game player. As for Vinny didn't it come out that Gainey had a trade in place for him, I think it involved either Vodkov or PFK and some others but Bettman nixed it because he thought it would hurt the franchise? Pretty sure that's what went down. The Habs actually lucked out there because Vinny went down hill pretty fast after he turned 30 or so.
Anyway, we might as well accept this rumour is not going away and Chevldayoff is in a tough spot. He can trade PLD now and get something in return or he waits until next year and the player walks for nothing. I know what I would do.
I say bring him. He's french wants to come is 6'4" and can score. The french pressure is his problem. I'll tell you tho, I wouldn't open the vault for him or sign him for 8 friggin years. I think Hugo is in the drivers seat here and he has proven that he know how to drive. Something PLD has going for him is his age. Being 25 he is a couple of years older than CC and Nature as well as the rest of the kids coming up and a few years younger than Powerhorse Kid G and Magic Mike etc. So he fills a gap. Just sayin. Go Habs
Holy crap. Hellz Belz out with a fractured leg now!? Sadly he may have played his final NHL game. He was a good story, but he shouldn't be on the roster next year. Because surely we won't be losing 700+ man games to injury next year. Right?
I have been doing some profound thinking and come up with a profound thought. Even if we had the 71 Canadiens, with all the injury we would have missed the playoffs. MSL has changed the equation. He can take a AHL player, ship dip him into an NHL regular. This magic talent may be dimished by the spectuclr of being a actual playoff and then cup contender, but I dont think so. We can plan the parade. I will not buy a fanatics anything. I will sell you my Drouin adias version T shirt for $400 us.
I have to Canadiens hockey jerseys or sweaters whatever they are called, a red one I bought I believe in the early 1980's, it doesn't fit anymore. And a white one purchased in the mid 90's probably after the last Cup win, it still fits. Both manufactured by CCM, an old school hockey company. I'll never spend money on NHL merchandise again. At least as long as the slimy littlest commissioner is running the show.
Trivia and beer tonight, a fun combination. Myself, my youngest son, his girlfriend and six of his friends team up to try to win..... nothing! It's all fun! 10 short answer questions about everything. 20 music clips, guess the song and the artist. Careful sometimes there are cover tunes. 10 multiple choice Repeat the above in round 2 Five 2 point questions about anything And finally, 10 pop culture questions, movies, tv, toys, video games and a puzzle to solve. Figure out what movie a bunch of people were in from partial pictures.
It's a ton of fun! Much more fun than watching hockey lately.
Good luck with the surgery, whenever it occurs, make sure no heavy lifting after!!
I'm on the list for a new knee, I thought about holding off but the surgeon told me no sense in waiting, it's only going to get worse. The cortisone shot I had at the end of November wore off a few weeks ago and yeah, he's right. Eight to ten months wait.
Did a lot of physio and glucosamine, seems to have done the trick. Next step ould've been cortisone shots. Recoup on the hernia is 4-6 weeks, 100% rest. My work permits up to 180 days off, fully paid. WiFi on my deck is really good.
I like reading Jack Todd's stuff too. He's an actual writer who makes his columns interesting to read, opposed to somebody like Brian Wilde, whom while I like the information he dispenses, just dumps words on a page.
The one fault I have with this specific Todd article is that while he blasts Kypreos and those of that ilk and commends how Red Fisher used to do things, Jack himself didn't go that extra mile to get an actual retort from Gorton himself. That would have been the piece de resistance.
Problem I have with The Virw From Nebraska is that he will probably go the same way as farber Comes up to Canada pretends to be a Canadian till it’s time to go back home to murica Don’t get me wrong I enjoy reading all of their stuff they are good journalists but neither of them grew up idolizing the Habs I would just rather read a piece from a Montreal kid instead of an American Farber married one of our beautiful Quebec girl and went to sports illustrated as soon as he could and JT will head home as soon as it warrants Anyway maybe I’m just grumpy Go Habs
I see nobody is talking about the Habs game tonight. I caught the last few seconds of the Sea Dogs monumental upset of the #1 ranked Gatineau team at good old Harbour Station. The Dogs won't win the series but that was a huge win for a young rebuilding team.
With 11 games left, I predicted the Habs would go 5-6 to finish the season. They are 2-5 with four to go. Pretty sure they're not going 3-1 and I hope they go 1-3, with the one win vs the team that shall not be named of course.
I guess the May 8th lottery is the next big date for us Habs fans.
I think Bédard was traditionally a french name, so it only makes sense the Habs get the #1 pick.
It's more likely they go 0-4. There's nothing left in the tank, well, the Tank will be fine, but I would guess most, not all, the players have checked out. Golf season is just around the corner, yippee!
I predict the Habs get the #1 pick again. Wonder what Gary's reaction will be this time? If not the Habs, then at least anybody but Arizona. Bedard should not have to languish in a place where nobody gives a flyin' f*** about hockey.
I feel sorry for tank commender Prime. However keep up the good work. They can not win a single game, I say bench Nature, Math is Hard, anyone who has a pulse.
I blelib like Gallager expained its more complicated. If Russkies come out supporting Gay rights back home its trouble. Lets say you get traded to Alberta and they have an Anti Quebec night, are you going to cheer?
Drouin was benched for being a few minutes late for a team meeting. At least they should keep him out of the lineup for this one pointless game. He's not being a team player? Then he's not part of the team. That's how I see it.
Let's be clear...there is only one game left in the season that the Habs must win...I'm too lazy to look it up but I know they have one left against the leaf...apart from that game JKHFFB!
Not sure what to make of that period. They Outshoot the Caps but look like shit a lot. Hit a few posts but can't make a 5 foot pass on a break out from their own end...
I tuned in to watch the 3rd period after I was done all my Trekking. A pleasant surprise to see the AHL Canadiens beat the Capitals. Two of HuGo's trade bait scored last night, that's a bonus. The SuperTankers all lost last night, doesn't matter, Montreal are winning the lottery.
I don't want to stir up controversy but regarding the NHL and their inclusivity efforts, I have to ask the question: Whatever happened to freedom of choice?
Like I pointed out above, infividuals make their choices; those choices should have consequences. RBC badge over your heart? That might rankle some, but they suck it up and deal with it. Same with the pride outfit. You want to make a stand and refuse to wear it? Well fine but there should be a price. They coukda simply dressed Farrell instead, so it's stupid o the organization. They could've avoided any controversy that way. Anyway, the whole voncept is a little gimmicky, but it's close to Brian Burke's heart.
And who knows how many players are in the closet and scared to come out? Maybe this means something to them too, but when one teammate isn't on board, how does it make them feel? Like a sub-human? In Ted Lasso Season 3 they're playing this scenario out and I can't wait to see where they go with it.
Brian Wilde had a pretty good take on the whole thing in his latest article. Personally, I think we should respect everyone's choices.
On a side note, we Canadians should thank our lucky stars we weren't born south of the 45th parallel. I was just reading about a couple of elected legislators in Tennessee who were thrown out because they protested gun violence. I am now convinced the NRA controls America.
They were not thrown out just because they protested gun violence don't be silly. This is murica land of the free. They wanted gun reform AND were Democrats AND they were black. Enough is enough phew ( eye roll ) Go Habs
Yes Maritimer golf season is upon us. Had my 2nd lesson last night, learned a couple of great things. Me and the boys then went to he simulator at Dooly's and I played like trash. We have our first tee time on an actual course Monday afternoon. Looking like a beautiful day, 13 degrees.
Watching the Masters. Doing pretty well iny pool except I picked Connors and he's having a rough day. Also Min Woo Lee started at +3. Koepka, Rahm and the amateur Bennett have me pretty high in the standings but if I miss a couple of cuts I'm toast.
It's just a little par 60 course just outside Halifax. I think maybe 6 driver holes and the rest par 3s. It stays open the longest and opens the soonest but manages to stay in decent shape. https://www.indianlakegolfcourse.ca/course
Some sifi guy said something about the future back in 1966 a year before the summer of love. I read what he said and believed it even though it was sci fi. Today its trure but if he is still alive he is not doing a victory lap. So we have to take a movie to describe what comes next for our kinder Habs. Obvious CHoice is War movie in space with Harrison Ford. Admit it no one who reads this would believe I came up with Enders War before you DID> So we are talking about kids playing games destroying adults with salaries that hurt the capl Next year we win the fucking cup with a bunch of guys who think earing a million a year is something special.
So Adam Fantilli wins the Hobey Baker. It may be blasphamy but I would rather we get second pick than first. Notable Lane Hutson who broke the most signicant record for defence in his freshman year did not make the final cut. That is because he is a lock to win it next year, and will end the season in Montreal five 10 and 200 lbs.

ReplyDeleteI'm not seeing any Habs goals tonight kids...they got nutin'
ReplyDeleteWow...this is men vs boys ...Habs have barely had the puck...
ReplyDeleteThis is right up there with vintage Ducharme hockey hockey from last season. Just awful and as bad a game as they've played all season...
ReplyDeleteWas Savvy THAT impactful? Wow

But I still say that was the play.
Mind you I was also still pushing for 'the kid from the Mooseheads' too (Zadina) and he's had less success even than KK.

At least as long as the slimy littlest commissioner is running the show.
ReplyDeleteNice to see Jack Todd back (twice a week) and today taking a deserved shot (but not hard enough according to himself) on the sfu insiders.
ReplyDeleteHe despises them as much as we do.
DeleteAnd Shitfly was deemed to be "a pending Scott Gomez." Heh!
DeleteRed Wings tonight.
ReplyDeleteHabs ice a team of players.
Trivia and beer tonight, a fun combination. Myself, my youngest son, his girlfriend and six of his friends team up to try to win..... nothing! It's all fun!
ReplyDelete10 short answer questions about everything.
20 music clips, guess the song and the artist. Careful sometimes there are cover tunes.
10 multiple choice
Repeat the above in round 2
Five 2 point questions about anything
And finally, 10 pop culture questions, movies, tv, toys, video games and a puzzle to solve. Figure out what movie a bunch of people were in from partial pictures.
It's a ton of fun! Much more fun than watching hockey lately.
I'd probably clean up in this game.
DeleteC'mon down I'll fit you in! 🍺
DeleteHeh. I'll head East sooner than later.
DeleteWas suppose to be in surgery (hernia) yesterday (postponed due to a doctor change).
Looking like June timeframe with a new doctor.
Knees are actually pretty much 100%.
Good luck with the surgery, whenever it occurs, make sure no heavy lifting after!!
DeleteI'm on the list for a new knee, I thought about holding off but the surgeon told me no sense in waiting, it's only going to get worse.
DeleteHope these ailments are all swiftly dealt with and end with full, life-reaffirming recoveries for you both.
DeleteMerci SiM, by 'life-reaffirming' I think you allude to pleasant distractions.
DeleteI have a rotor cuff injury of some note. Seems like it will take care of itself in 4 to 6 months, its my right arm as well.
DeleteI like reading Jack Todd's stuff too. He's an actual writer who makes his columns interesting to read, opposed to somebody like Brian Wilde, whom while I like the information he dispenses, just dumps words on a page.
ReplyDeleteThe one fault I have with this specific Todd article is that while he blasts Kypreos and those of that ilk and commends how Red Fisher used to do things, Jack himself didn't go that extra mile to get an actual retort from Gorton himself. That would have been the piece de resistance.
One thing Jack Todd has never been is a hard WORKING journalist.
DeleteProblem I have with The Virw From Nebraska is that he will probably go the same way as farber
DeleteComes up to Canada pretends to be a Canadian till it’s time to go back home to murica
Don’t get me wrong
I enjoy reading all of their stuff
they are good journalists but neither of them grew up idolizing the Habs
I would just rather read a piece from a Montreal kid instead of an American
Farber married one of our beautiful Quebec girl and went to sports illustrated as soon as he could and JT will head home as soon as it warrants
Anyway maybe I’m just grumpy
Go Habs
I see nobody is talking about the Habs game tonight. I caught the last few seconds of the Sea Dogs monumental upset of the #1 ranked Gatineau team at good old Harbour Station. The Dogs won't win the series but that was a huge win for a young rebuilding team.
ReplyDeleteAt this point, feels like I'm only watching these games to like, bear witness to a crime against humanity.
ReplyDeleteHabs shutout again (they may realistically not score another goal this year), FLA wins and Penguins lose.
ReplyDeleteAn all around crappy night.
With 11 games left, I predicted the Habs would go 5-6 to finish the season. They are 2-5 with four to go. Pretty sure they're not going 3-1 and I hope they go 1-3, with the one win vs the team that shall not be named of course.
ReplyDeleteI guess the May 8th lottery is the next big date for us Habs fans.
DeleteI predict the Habs get the #1 pick again. Wonder what Gary's reaction will be this time? If not the Habs, then at least anybody but Arizona. Bedard should not have to languish in a place where nobody gives a flyin' f*** about hockey.
You assume the draft is not fixed, Hmmmmm
DeleteI feel sorry for tank commender Prime. However keep up the good work. They can not win a single game, I say bench Nature, Math is Hard, anyone who has a pulse.
ReplyDeleteThere is probably only one person who does not want Montreal to pick 1st overall and he is currently playing for the Winnipeg Jets.
ReplyDeleteNo power now for 10 hours
ReplyDeleteAll around us have power
Not one Hydro-Québec cop or fire truck to be seen
Makes you wonder
No go Habs
Gurianov is dead to me. They should suspend him for the rest of the season and let him phoque off to his systemically homophobic homeland.
ReplyDeleteI blelib like Gallager expained its more complicated. If Russkies come out supporting Gay rights back home its trouble. Lets say you get traded to Alberta and they have an Anti Quebec night, are you going to cheer?
DeleteDrouin was benched for being a few minutes late for a team meeting. At least they should keep him out of the lineup for this one pointless game. He's not being a team player? Then he's not part of the team. That's how I see it.
DeleteAaaaahhhhhhhh....... The Masters. Golf season just around the corner.
ReplyDeleteLet's be clear...there is only one game left in the season that the Habs must win...I'm too lazy to look it up but I know they have one left against the leaf...apart from that game JKHFFB!
ReplyDeleteNot sure what to make of that period. They Outshoot the Caps but look like shit a lot. Hit a few posts but can't make a 5 foot pass on a break out from their own end...
ReplyDeleteNature!

ReplyDeleteGI Finn! Bring on the penalties?!
ReplyDeleteLep!
ReplyDeleteGI Finn again!
ReplyDeleteGi hattie Finn!
ReplyDeleteHoff!
ReplyDeleteHattie for Army...Noice!
ReplyDeleteArmy destroys the tank. Hugo has to do something desperate. I say play the whole game with an empty net.
ReplyDeleteI tuned in to watch the 3rd period after I was done all my Trekking. A pleasant surprise to see the AHL Canadiens beat the Capitals. Two of HuGo's trade bait scored last night, that's a bonus. The SuperTankers all lost last night, doesn't matter, Montreal are winning the lottery.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to stir up controversy but regarding the NHL and their inclusivity efforts, I have to ask the question: Whatever happened to freedom of choice?
Like I pointed out above, infividuals make their choices; those choices should have consequences. RBC badge over your heart? That might rankle some, but they suck it up and deal with it. Same with the pride outfit. You want to make a stand and refuse to wear it? Well fine but there should be a price. They coukda simply dressed Farrell instead, so it's stupid o the organization. They could've avoided any controversy that way. Anyway, the whole voncept is a little gimmicky, but it's close to Brian Burke's heart.
DeleteAnd who knows how many players are in the closet and scared to come out? Maybe this means something to them too, but when one teammate isn't on board, how does it make them feel? Like a sub-human? In Ted Lasso Season 3 they're playing this scenario out and I can't wait to see where they go with it.
Brian Wilde had a pretty good take on the whole thing in his latest article. Personally, I think we should respect everyone's choices.
DeleteOn a side note, we Canadians should thank our lucky stars we weren't born south of the 45th parallel. I was just reading about a couple of elected legislators in Tennessee who were thrown out because they protested gun violence. I am now convinced the NRA controls America.
They were not thrown out just because they protested gun violence don't be silly.
DeleteThis is murica land of the free.
They wanted gun reform AND were Democrats AND they were black.
Enough is enough phew ( eye roll )
Go Habs
Looks like the Habs might be destined to finish 6th from the bottom though AZ have a couple potential wins left.
ReplyDeleteMore importantly FLA have the hardest remaining sked between them, NYI and PIT.
So lots of reasons to keep paying attention.
ReplyDeleteWatching the Masters. Doing pretty well iny pool except I picked Connors and he's having a rough day. Also Min Woo Lee started at +3. Koepka, Rahm and the amateur Bennett have me pretty high in the standings but if I miss a couple of cuts I'm toast.
Wow, what course is open? I think southern N.S. is a couple weeks ahead of us weather wise.
DeleteIt's just a little par 60 course just outside Halifax. I think maybe 6 driver holes and the rest par 3s. It stays open the longest and opens the soonest but manages to stay in decent shape.

Some sifi guy said something about the future back in 1966 a year before the summer of love. I read what he said and believed it even though it was sci fi. Today its trure but if he is still alive he is not doing a victory lap.
ReplyDeleteSo we have to take a movie to describe what comes next for our kinder Habs.
Obvious CHoice is War movie in space with Harrison Ford. Admit it no one who reads this would believe I came up with Enders War before you DID>
So we are talking about kids playing games destroying adults with salaries that hurt the capl
Next year we win the fucking cup with a bunch of guys who think earing a million a year is something special.
