Nice job Hugo Maintained the salary structure didn’t break the bank and got long term on a kid we need Let’s just not load up on smurfs Smurfs don’t win The Cup Onward to the promised land Go Habs
Yes on the short-statured; we han highre Lep and CC already. Two is about all you should bet on. Add Hutson on the back end and that really maxes them out.
NOTE: in high school, Hughes's one sport was rugby, so possibly he holds the smaller, grittier types in higher regard than your garden variety GM would.
I'm not the biggest CC fan but pairing him with Suzuki for almost a decade is going to be fun to watch. His size (or lack thereof) is going keep him from being as great as he could be.
"...as he could be." What, you think he DECIDED not to grow any taller? Sorry, mate. He's already proven himself, snd lije his under-sized coach, our Whiskey's got big-time Michael J. Fox vibes. Nothing's gonna stop him.
Vegas is a city built in an inhospitable desert. It logically should not exist. Add an ice hockey team. If they win the Cup it might throw all of reality out of balance and usher in the end times. Plus they're so goddamn chintzy.
I give no effs about the outcome of the final, but from what I'm reading it sounds like Gary has the VGK names already engraved on the cup. Saw the vid of Tkachuk leveling Eichel who basically fell/dove into Tkachuk and Matt was given 10. and another 10 for slapping one of them rubber rats across the ice. Yeah, seems like some stuff is happening. So...though I don't really care, go FLA!
I'll bet the Golden Showers owner who was gifted a Stanley Cup contender out of the gate, has a nice, fat bonus cheque made out to Gary already. Eff'em all.
I see the House of Mouse (who own ESPN) are laying off some of the hockey analysts already due to low ratings for hockey. Aw what a shame. Eff them too.
In the end, the almighty dollar always wins. It only took a year for the PGA to cave to the Saudis. There is no end to the corruption in sports. And sadly, I'll keep watching when my teams/players are involved.
As other people have pointed out, Jean Luc knows how much salary he can expect from the Montreal Canadiens. It will less than $7.875mil per season. If that ain't enough, adios amigo.
I could see HuGo maybe signing Quebec Remparts free agent goalie William Rousseau, grandson of former Hab Bobby Rousseau to play in Laval. I could see Jake Allen be the odd man out, going to a contender?
Just read on the Toronto sports network by some guy named yotes that CC and Slick Nick don’t have any chemistry together and that Hugo is taking a big risk with unproven line mates??? I’m sorry that I read this shite It’s no wonder that the SFU are so dilusional if this is what they are fed I mean it’s not the only reason It helps that you’re a mentally challenged navel gazer but still Eeesh Go Habs
CHester, I don't read any of the articles on the toronto sports network about hockey. They only have one thing on the brain. I will occasionally read about football or golf. sportsBet, I refuse to even look at their site.
If I want Habs news or analysis, I go to EOTP, Montreal Hockey Now, or read articles by Stu Cowan, Jack Todd in the Gazette or Brian Wilde at Global News. For sheer entertainment this site is #1. I can get a chuckle or vent to fellow Habs fans. I also check out a few Habscentric posters on Twitter. Bottom line, avoid the tranna shite, unless they are in turmoil about the latest leaf schadenfreude. That's some funny shit.
Agree totally. I can't really do the gazette because of the Brendan Kelly doofus so I get my JT, Stu and Pat from Hockey Inside/Out which I consider to be a fine site. I'll have to include Brian Wilde isn't he The Call of the Wilde? Go Habs
Here is a view of the Habs as they currently stand that I can agree with. The only caveat is injuries can change the fortunes of any team as we found out and Colorado fans did as well.
That's a good honest assessment I would say. I keep wanting/thinking Josh Anderson should and can be doing more but back to back 32 point/69 game seasons isn't exactly the secondary scoring we need. I like his grit and his will but maybe if somebody is willing to take him for a decent pick or prospect that's the way to go.
SMURF warning, they need a smurf dectector when the smurf level getst high, smurfs have to get off. For all the skill and this and that, if you are not a big fiecre man you better be only one of a couple on a cup winning team.
We were talking about LIV/PGA this morning waiting to go to the first tee at Rockwood. One of the starters was telling us that the PGA basically had no choice but to accept money from the Saudi Public Trust Fund because they were nearly broke. The 2 Covid years with no and small crowds really hurt them and their TV deals are years old but they have to honour them. The players want bigger purses so they were backed into a corner. Sounds like they took the easy way out. Terrible.
Hey M, I see there are loads of Canadians in the Open today, and our boy Myles is in the very last group with two other unknown Canadians. Good luck to all the Canucks. And Rory.
"... It’s believed RBC was hoping to get hockey ambassador Auston Matthews to participate in the pro-am Wednesday at Oakdale, but he decided to take a pass. "
I see Hughes defending to SFU media that players want to sign in Montreal.
Anybody know if Quebec's new language law might impact whether non Francophones might reconsider signing in Montreal? And does that make more sense in acquiring PLD?
I've only read a bit about how many services will only be offered in French unless one has a valid reason for not speaking French. Not sure what that would be..brain injury? What about not smart enough? Just curious about this issue...or if it is actually a potential issue at all? Are there English only private schools where players could send their kids? So many questions...
If you are making millions of dollars a year these questions disappear. In fact most parents should relish the chance for the kid to be bi lingual. Languae Woke is a good thing. I speak from personal experience. My kids at age 4 went to a german speaking Kindergarten, fortunately Kindgergarten is a english word.
There are plenty of private schools and the public english schools facilitate at least a year or two for people from elsewhere. The language laws are proving to be unenforcible and the issue is more of the Quebec penchant for nanny-statism. Mrs. Petry, Mrs. Price and other players' wives went through much stricter restrictions in the worst second and third waves of COVID here because Legault and his incompetent govt. had to go nuclear to keep the healthcare system from totally collapsing. I'm sure word got around between other teams' hockey wives. There are even exclusive "professional athlete" tax breaks available so the higher income tax worry is BS.
size matters, Colorado may be the most Smurf team in the last 20 years to win the cup. However look at the Golden Showers, only one player under 6 feet, six feet under and your dead to them. We got room for Whiskey and the Hudson Kid, the rest, bette bulk up, get leg splints or play like Galleger. I say we trade our 31 st overall, and one small D man and Devo for PLD who agrees to 8 for slighly under 8. Make is so number one.
PLD will get slightly more than Nature and CC. According to KH, those two were coming off their entry level contracts. PLD is a 6 year vet looking for his big payday, I would guess 8 X $8.5 +/-
However, there is interest from Minnesota and the Rags? PLD not a slam dunk.
As I am watching the finals I am thinkingaboot the Habs in this battle. How many players can take the abuse? We got Pez and Wifi and ...... Yeah, size matters as I always advertised in high school.
I think Hugo will wait on PLD until he either falls in his lap or moves on I’m guessing he is a head case We don’t need another French head case Stie Go Habs
I agree, either he loves us and goes and plays in the KHL next year, or we tell him we already had the most skilled player on the ice flame out. He is a 60 point player, a peice, not a franchise. Same goes for PFK, big mistake at 9 if he had signed for 7 he would have retired here
I was all for acquiring PLD but not at any cost. Kent Hughes won't sell the farm. If you guys don't think he is worth the trouble, I'm down with that. Stay the course, steady as she goes. Bring on Fresh Prince, Ovi2.0 or the Lion!
The playofffs is all a about men vs men. Back seat plaid cheap suit dumpster diver took the Habs to the finals/ This should be celebrated like the 93. Herb may have been stuck in a sales track, but despite all the odds he delivered a Stanley cup final. FUCK FUCK FUCK ANYONE who has never played or commeted on a stanley cup final
If the Canucks can't get it done, there are enough UK lads to do it. Rory, Mick .. errr ... Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Tyrell Hatton. Anybody but Americans.
I have played golf, bad, and I have hit a few great shots. Then I came to agree with Mark Twian, its a waste of a good walk. So we celebrate Tiger the most out of control person in pro sports. Then when the Saudis buy the sport we say ........
So HuGo had a meeting with Adam Fantilli yesterday. Gorton said the Habs would be aggressive at the Draft. The Ducks are a rebuilding team as well. Maybe #5, #31 and Logan for #2 gets it done?
PLD is like me, he is not going to comprise, He is rich he is empowered and he has seen some stinky life as a pro. He is going to sign with the Habs or play in the KHL. He is going to sign 8 for 8 take that to the bank, put the in your pipe and smoke it when we win the cupl
Lol I know! Great seeing all the other golfers out there supporting their fellow countrymen. This event is one of the best I've seen, it's a shame it gets no love and was moved to just before the US Open which eliminates a lot of big names. Good for the Canadian golfers though I guess with a lesser field.
My team has won 6 Super bowls. I remember Weirsy winning the Masters in 2003. I've watched Brooke Henderson win multiple events including Majors. The Habs run 2 years ago was incredible.
But this is by far the greatest sporting event I've witnessed since the Habs' 93 cup with the 10 OT victories.
Bonus material was Adam Hadwin getting tackled by security. His wife Jessica is a gem on Twitter and was poking some pretty good fun at him.
The Cup wins in '71, '76, '79, '86 and '93 stand out to me.
I remember the Giants Super Bowls in '08 and '12 (you probably do too).
Mike Weir's Masters win.
Never saw Henderson win.
Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickleson's British Open duel in 2016 was incredible.
Taylor's win today was so dramatic because so much was at stake for the country. I figured even if Nick didn't win today it was inevitable one of the Canadians would win it soon, maybe even next year. That putt though, wow, what a finish to a big Canadian event.
Poor Adam Hadwin, he looked like a bum after he changed into his civvies, it was great to see all the guys hanging around to support and watch Nick win!
Taylor threw the ball into the crowd walking off the green. I guarantee somebody from RBC tracked the person with the ball down and paid big bucks to get it. The sponsor would want that big time!
Regarding historical Canadian events, how could I forget the '72 Summit Series as Mrs. Maritimer reminded me last night? Sheesh, she's got a better memory than me.
Speaking of hockey, now that the Canadian golf drought of 69 years is over, guess what is now the longest sporting drought in Canada? Hint: it started in 1967 and is the longest running sit-com in the country.
And I agree ... draft Michkov. But I don't think they will. Rumour has it Ryan Leonard is the guy if Smith is gone. I don't care one way or the other but I'm praying they don't take Reinbacher, why take a D with all the talented forwards available? Leonard or Benson please. Taking a D that high is a waste and old school thinking.
The case for big d man. Remember the big 3, remember the St lou cup, and the Montreal run, it was all based on big fucking D men, who did not necessarly light up the scoreboard. The Golden Showers are using the same men that Tampex has bought for years. The way to win the cup is to defend the slot, nothing else matters, thats a Pink Fylod nothing elese matter to all you pinkos,
I am going to be debbie downer on the putt. A thousand people a day do that playing mini golf. Its not a sport its a hobby. Just like womens hockey, darts figure skating, moguls and every other thing you do where the risk of getting killed is not there. I would include football or soccer in this rant, its a hobby not a sport, okay I went over the top on purpose.
Nick Taylor read that putt perfectly. He would make that 3 out of 10 times. Golf is for old retired men with a black belt in karate. I played with my sensei today, we could kill anybody as long as they don't have guns.
I trust in Hugo until I see pictures of them outside the Fourm in a dumpster. Half of Hugo has two bad picks with the Rags, they seem to go for big strong men who can score in the lower leagues. PHOTO Johnathan Merssault, from the Q, we did not want him, nobody wanted him, and he is likely to win the hart or whatevr best playoff person gets.
HuGo are going to get Crappo Kakko from the Rags for magic beans. Watch and see. Speaking of dumpsters, Bargain Bin has been spotted in a dumpster outside of the arena in Winnipeg. Jean Luc and the HillBilly goalie are going to LA.
I say keep the cap at suzki, if you want more money be more like PJ CPT underpants. Even in this crazy mad max world, 8 million a year is more than enough, If you want more go to TO and suck forewver.
As a Habs fan, I want Treliving to sign Narcos to a $14mil per year for another 8 years. He will keep them in poverty until the Habs win the Cup in 2026.
Congrats to a Serbian guy named Jokić, a Canadian named Murray and their Denver Nuggets on taking the NBS championship and being the first of two teams to make Ron DeSantis and his state sad in one week.
I see Michael Andlauer, minority owner of the Habs will be the new Sens owner. This means he'll need to sell his shares with the Habs (I assume). It's pretty obvious, FHF will need to step up and purchase those. We just need a good lawyer. And about $100M +/- I'm guessing.
Definitely a good idea to get some new blood in the training room. There are too many injuries and setbacks to injured players returning over the past few years for it to simply be a fluke. TFS, BBQ (remember how it started with a shot block to his ankle in Game 1 against Buffalo one year and it just progressed?), LB, Lep, Druid's wrist, MonaHab and DaCH and Munster and Maths last year ALL needing to extend tgeir projected recovery times again and again. It's a damning record for sure.
Interesting take on PLD, I remember all those other players wanting out of Columbus and Winnipeg, there is obviously a problem in both places. I actually don't care one way or the other if he comes to Montreal. HuGo will figure it out.
- fůck Vegas, except their small, franco Conn Smythe winner - fuck a trophy named after a leaf and worse the ugliness of said trophy - rename the SC playoff MVP to the Jean Beliveau trophy (or Patrick Roy, winner of 3) - thank you Phil Kessel for cramming SFU bile right back down their throats - I have zero want/need for PLD - trainers and 'specialist' likely are to blame (in part) for TFS' demise - New Sens owner is from Montreal, owns 10% of the Habs and SFU call him a toronto-based businessman - fűck bettman
Dont blame the player blame the game. Give Vegas credit they played a pee filled pool to the top. It reinforces what we always knew, giant defenseman win cups. 10 million dollar goalies do not.
Lots of talk HuGo trying to move up in the draft, possibly even to #2. Seems like they are trying to take Michkov out of the equation. I say bring it on. The Habs have a shitload of draft picks and decent prospects. As Larry the Cable Guy sez: "Get'r Done!!"
HA! I knew it! Well done Gary you little weasel. I didn't watch one second of the NHL after the putrid leaf were eliminated.
Allan Walsh🏒 @walsha · 12h We knew it was going to be bad but holy hell. The Stanley Cup Finals national broadcast ratings down 43% this year from last year. It was the least viewed Stanley Cup Finals since 2007.
Read an interesting comment/tweet that the NHL no longer really needs to revenue generated by rich teams like the Habs and the NYR, amongst others, because bettman is beyond happy that a Vegas team, that represents gambling, is the new stream of $ to take from fans. Gambling (and the sfu) will ruin the game.
Well When we get too fed up with Buttman We can go the WHL way and create a new problem for their status quo Worked back then Should work again Go Habs
Steve has to vent or explode, for sure its not pretty but its real I am tired of the LGBT Q2 alphabet war. Canada legalized gay marriage 20 years ago, PET made sodomy legal. Why are we still talking about this stuff? Now in the USA they want to cancel the noun bicycle. Is it because Queen sang about it 30 years ago? We now must refer to it and I may have chosen the wrong pronoun, as a TWSPV. Yes that is a two wheeled self propelled vehicle. Probably because the deep state wants bicycles to become vehicles so they can license and insurance them and shake more dimes out of the proletariat.
I hate the breakdown of civilization that is going on everywhere. As you know the Romans defined civilization by the state of public toilets. Well know its seems for the most part, any place you can drop one is a public toilet. Is this an advance or a decline in civilization?
If you were PM how fast would Paul Berdardo go back in the hole? I know the legal arguments about the state can not pick on one serial killer, but JESUS CHRIST, Paul Berdardo getting his entitlements is just another sign we have completely lost our minds.
Putin called Zelensky a bad Jew. Thats Nuclear and not welcome, but could it be true. I cant say because of the NSA that NAZI are running around Ukraine with flags and symbols, but if you google before 2022, most of the MSM was talking about the NAZI in dat place. Zelensky's grandfather was a hero of the Soviet Union. Unfortunately for me it dissolved before I could achieve that honour. It begs the question, a billion dollar plus question, how could he betray those roots. Did he get some root canal that opened his eyes to the truth? The truth we all know but cant say, is he who has the gold makes the rules. City of London baby cant talk to much about it as a tourist.
Lets say one of the richest countries by resource people, hydro, rich soil gets into a civil war. Civil wars only end with total defeat of ones brother, or Nuclear war.
Habs talk, yeah. PLD, he signs an 8 for 8 and we give up two first round draft picks and DEVO. We do take Michkov and we assign Vodkov to be his mentor. FHF I believe I totally believe we will win that damm cup in 3 years if we get PLD.
More and more the world is making old people like me , say FUCKING EH! I grew up and lived in a rational world. Oh course many of us have children and we are pleading with our sons in laws to get a vesicostomy. Steve
Hey the M not sure if you're checking out the US Open but it sure as hell is a lot less fun than the Canadian Open. And it sounds like a morgue in comparison. I'd like to see Ricky hand in there.
Congrats to Wyndam Clark on winning the US Open. Canada's golfers all sucked, I think they were tired from celebrating last weekend.
I don't know if you guys spend any time on Twitter, apparently Whiskey is trying to recruit PLD to Montreal. CC must be working for hockey Ops on the side. Nine more days until the Draft, lots of intrigue about HuGo trying to move up. Should be fun!
I would love nothing more than for PLD to come be a major success in Montreal for around 8x8. But I don't believe he has the intestinal fortitude to be that guy. So for me it's still a hard pass. But if HuGo takes the risk, then fingers crossed it's not another Drouin situation.
I would lose about 40 balls playing on that golf course. Miss the fairway and good luck finding your ball, because oddly there aren't thousands of people watching or loads of course marshals around when I play.
I don't see the need to acquire PLD unless you really don't think DaCH and Nature can handle things. He isn't injured much, so there's that. But I am anticipating Beck at 3rd C (maybe not for another year, takibg Devo's spot), with Sevans a sokid #4 C. And I'd sign MonaHab first too. Less $$, less Cap hit, less of a gamble.
I see PLD more as a winger playing with Nature and Whiskey. DaCH playing with Powerhorse and MonaHab. Throw the rest of them in a sack and see how they shake out. I don't even see Slowkovsky in the equation. Laval is a good spot for him.
All you PLD deniers are ignorant sluts. He will be traded to Boston for a bag of pucks. He will enter that dressing room for the first time an puke on the spokes. Next year he will sign with LE HABS 7 for 8. Dont be ignorant sluts, thats my advice
I think it’s rare to have a local boy want to come home He’s been as vocal as can be about it Hugo should be in the drivers seat with PLD I am just hesitant about throwing the keys to him never mind the vault Give him a low base with incentives and 8 years would make him what 34 at the end Say we are competitive in 2 to 3 years give him a 5 year contract and throw in Celine Dion Go Habs
Geez CHester, you were either up late or up very early! My opinion of PLD is ... he will not be Beliveau nor will he be Drouin. Somewhere in the middle. Hopefully he can be a 30 goal 85-90 point guy. If he gets 8 years he would be 33 at the end. Honestly, I just hope the Habs can stay reasonably healthy and compete for a wild card spot. That's all I'm asking for.
I thought the base salary would be closer to $1M with larger '# of games played' bonus because what's $15K to these guys? But nonetheless I hope he can stay healthy. Might become a good trade chip at the deadline if he can.
This pleases me greatly. He still has something to prove and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he has a career year and then gets to command some serious coin. GYFHG!
I think PLD is still in play. I believe he has his sites set on Montreal and his agent Pat Brisson is trying to accommodate him. I also believe this will be a 3 way deal somehow maybe with LA involved. They are trying to free up cap space as well.
Leaf fans are bleibers because of the magic of the belieb buddy of Cpt Underpants. Well I beliber PLD signs for less than 8 for max term, this year or next. Thats what I would do, because I saw his face and now I am a believer.
Bertrand Raymond says TFS shouldn’t go in The Hall cause he never won the cup I remember reading all kind of stupid things he wrote over the years and always had a racist tone Good riddance Go Habs
It would be hilarious if Anaheim takes Michkov 2nd overall, it would throw all the clown draft 'experts' predictions out the window. I'm sure HuGo will have all their ducks in a row anticipating this.
Happily next Wednesday is my poker night. So I can't be tempted to listen to the clown show. I'll keep a half an eye on it. And whatever happens, happens.
Michov and can we call him strawberry Vodko? he goes at 3 or 4. We get the non rapping all ice dancing will Smith. You know I can live with this. For sure StrawberryVodkov wants 14 million on his next contract. Will Smith will only slap you in the face and then apologize and sign for 8
To the families of Capt. David Domagala, 32, and Capt. Marc Larouche, 53, my condolences, and gratitude for their service and having paid tge ultimate price in defence of their country.
Hard to believe the Titanic has claimed 5 more lives 111 years after it sank. I don't understand the fascination with an old sunken hulk. There should be an international agreement to ban anymore of these dives. An unnecessary tragedy brought on by over confidence.
If Putin's regime collapses today, does that change HuGo's equation inre: thinking of Michkov at #5? If so, probably the same case for the teams ahead of the Habs Wednesday. Interesting times.
I played golf today with my buddy that used to scout the Q for the Blues. He told me he wouldn't be surprised if San Jose takes Michkov since they are starting a rebuild and don't need him right away. If that's the case, either Carlsson or Smith will be the pick.
PLD is comming here for a bag of pucks. The biggest bag of pucks ever, its a world record, they have not seen so much rubber since allededly a gentelman Cheelioos left town. They said he was a enviormental distaster in the executive workplace. If I was the CEO at that time, he would have ended his carrer in the KHL. PLaying for spastic, where they allow motorized vehicles. The question, its a big question. Remember TO made the Kwia Lonard trade and wone the NBA. So Vegas has done the same thing. Is HUGO ready to roll the dice. Its comming up 144 for me both PLD and someone who can protect him from any defensive liabilties, Mr HELL IBUCK, there are many places in the world he could not play due to his name. He has now realized, there are not so many places north of some line, Is is Mason or is it Dixon or can I get a discount if I can pass a Dukes of Hazard Quiz. I think we come away from draft day with Hell and Picard, and we hit warp drive.
Nashville might be in play for PLD. They just opened up some cap space and opened up a spot at center. Maybe Picard can be a country singer on the side.
Wed is the draft. Well tonite I am starting and I am going to work backwards through the Taken trilogy. The reason is its much less complicated than picking at 5th when its franchise player time. Louis Louis the guy who could not skate but had a great mind, just not for hockey. I could go on and on and maybe not stop until I met who? CC is the only real potential the Habs have drafted since TFS. So take someone who will take 8 for 8. Thats the new equation in the draft, you gonna walk on me son at 25, well I am going to kick your ass now, and you will be rich and you will not thank me later.
PLD thinks he is in the NBA. Deal at the draft, number 31 pick, Devo, a small skilled D man named Harris and Edmunston, with the HOF as a throw in. Of course the Hoff will not go to the PEG.
Well I never been punCHed in the face, an I never played pro hockey. In fact even in the day when everyone down south would take any hockey play er with a beautifal mind, I never got the tap; So you know know all my secrce about being extrondaaly bitter that I wa not drafeecccdf, If I was in the draft today I would be selectedt by the PEG. Little forward who can skate, has a great wriistshot, and he came fom Haliburton so mosquitos are just like a way of life
Honestly, I was ambivalent about PLD. Sure, it would have been nice to get him but not at the sacrifice of players like DaCH or CC or the 5th pick. Also, people forget that the Kings have a lot of Quebec born influencers who live in LA, Luc Robitaille, Marcel Dionne and now our old friend bargainbinbergy. Plus, his agent Pat Brisson also lives there. We should have seen it coming.
Two more sleeps and then the fun begins. I normally don't drink through the week but I'll make an exception this Wednesday.
An excellent day for the CH. Well managed and all stakeholders can feel like winners. That's HuGonomics

DeleteSMURF warning, they need a smurf dectector when the smurf level getst high, smurfs have to get off. For all the skill and this and that, if you are not a big fiecre man you better be only one of a couple on a cup winning team.
DeleteBest comment about the liv/pga $hit ...
ReplyDelete"As part of the merger, the PGA will control holes 1-8 and 12-18.
The Saudis do 9-11."
Saw that. BAM!
DeleteHello!
DeleteSo true and so sad. We are lost, Marx was totally correct.
DeleteJean Luc's agent has told Winnipeg .... I'm out of here. Wonder where he will end up, Philly...?
ReplyDeleteWe were talking about LIV/PGA this morning waiting to go to the first tee at Rockwood. Terrible.
ReplyDeleteHey M, I see there are loads of Canadians in the Open today, and our boy Myles is in the very last group with two other unknown Canadians. Good luck to all the Canucks. And Rory.
ReplyDeleteI'll probably start watching later tomorrow. I have to get past the LIV thing I guess...
Delete"... It’s believed RBC was hoping to get hockey ambassador Auston Matthews to participate in the pro-am Wednesday at Oakdale, but he decided to take a pass. "
DeleteThat's odd, he should be pretty good at golf by now....
DeleteHeh heh.
DeleteBest trade proposal I have seen yet for PLD.
ReplyDeleteDvo and an autographed Carey Price jersey, take it or leave it. LOL!!
Hah! And then when they open it, they find it signed by Mrs. Price.
DeleteI see Hughes defending to SFU media that players want to sign in Montreal.
ReplyDeleteAnybody know if Quebec's new language law might impact whether non Francophones might reconsider signing in Montreal?
DeleteThere are plenty of private schools and the public english schools facilitate at least a year or two for people from elsewhere.
DeleteThanks SiM I knew you'd step up with the reasonable explanation I was looking for!
Deletesize matters, Colorado may be the most Smurf team in the last 20 years to win the cup. However look at the Golden Showers, only one player under 6 feet, six feet under and your dead to them.
ReplyDeleteWe got room for Whiskey and the Hudson Kid, the rest, bette bulk up, get leg splints or play like Galleger. I say we trade our 31 st overall, and one small D man and Devo for PLD who agrees to 8 for slighly under 8. Make is so number one.
PLD will get slightly more than Nature and CC. According to KH, those two were coming off their entry level contracts. PLD is a 6 year vet looking for his big payday, I would guess 8 X $8.5 +/-
DeleteHowever, there is interest from Minnesota and the Rags? PLD not a slam dunk.
No way. Not even a point a game player. He ain't worth it. We've got all the scoring we need, just have to stay healthy.
DeleteI wouldn't trade for PLD. Habs haven't had the best luck with #3 overall picks (see Galchenyuk, Drouin, KK).
DeleteHere's hoping Dach is the exception, but I don't want to go double or nothing on this with PLD.
As I am watching the finals I am thinkingaboot the Habs in this battle. How many players can take the abuse? We got Pez and Wifi and ...... Yeah, size matters as I always advertised in high school.
DeleteI think Hugo will wait on PLD until he either falls in his lap or moves on
ReplyDeleteI’m guessing he is a head case
We don’t need another French head case
Stie
Go Habs
I agree, either he loves us and goes and plays in the KHL next year, or we tell him we already had the most skilled player on the ice flame out. He is a 60 point player, a peice, not a franchise. Same goes for PFK, big mistake at 9 if he had signed for 7 he would have retired here
DeleteAs it stands, PK's downtown Mtl condo was recently put on the market. He owned this town, once.
DeleteI was all for acquiring PLD but not at any cost. Kent Hughes won't sell the farm. If you guys don't think he is worth the trouble, I'm down with that. Stay the course, steady as she goes. Bring on Fresh Prince, Ovi2.0 or the Lion!
ReplyDeleteIn retrospect, I'd rather HuGo bring back MonaHab on a one year deal than sign PLD to megabucks.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on that, the M. Haven't heard much noise on MonaHab since the trade deadline.
DeleteThe playofffs is all a about men vs men.
ReplyDeleteWell, Corey Conners is looking more and more like the choking hockey team he roots for. Go Nick Taylor!
ReplyDeleteYep he was true to that blue and white he wore today.
DeleteTight leaderboard. I hope Nick or Corey can make a run but I doubt they can finish it out.
If the Canucks can't get it done, there are enough UK lads to do it. Rory, Mick .. errr ... Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Tyrell Hatton. Anybody but Americans.
ReplyDeleteI have played golf, bad, and I have hit a few great shots. Then I came to agree with Mark Twian, its a waste of a good walk.
DeleteSo we celebrate Tiger the most out of control person in pro sports.
ReplyDeleteThat would work. The Habs cupboard is well stocked as it is.
DeletePLD to the beaners? I could see that happening.
ReplyDeletePLD is like me, he is not going to comprise, He is rich he is empowered and he has seen some stinky life as a pro. He is going to sign with the Habs or play in the KHL. He is going to sign 8 for 8 take that to the bank, put the in your pipe and smoke it when we win the cupl
DeleteFor 29, I'd like to say to Nick Taylor, ,"Hang in there!"
ReplyDeleteOh my nerves....
DeleteFleetwood in the driver's seat after that beauty approach on 17. I can't believe he doesn't have a win yet. Before today at least.
DeleteWell Mr. Fleetwood, I don't like you anymore.
DeleteA glimmer of hope...
DeleteWOW! Major choke job, all may be forgiven...
DeleteHeading to OT!
DeleteHopefully Fleetwood doesn't play the part of 2004's Vijay Singh!
Fingers crossed for Nick Taylor!
ReplyDeleteSide note: I was born in '54. Good Luck Nick!
1954 was the last time a Canadian won the Canadian Open...
DeleteTwo poor shots. Nick's second shot looked like one of mine with the 5 wood.
ReplyDeleteWhew!
ReplyDeleteClutch...
DeleteCrazy stuff going on here...
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine how fast their hearts must be beating standing over those putts!
ReplyDeleteC'mon Nick, finishing him off on OT hole 4!
I may have to start drinking...
ReplyDeleteLol I know! Great seeing all the other golfers out there supporting their fellow countrymen.
DeleteThis event is one of the best I've seen, it's a shame it gets no love and was moved to just before the US Open which eliminates a lot of big names. Good for the Canadian golfers though I guess with a lesser field.
Holy hell! A 70 footer or the win!!!!
ReplyDeletefor the win
DeleteThis is one of the greatest things I have ever seen. Even Jim Nantz was flabbergasted!
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS NICK TAYLOR YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!!
Also, Tommy Fleetwood, you are a class act and a good sport. I am rooting for you next week.
I will remember that 72' Eagle putt for the rest of my life. Incredible.
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteMy team has won 6 Super bowls.
DeleteI remember the Giants Super Bowls in '08 and '12 (you probably do too).
For you non golf fans, in Canada it a contact sport. This is actually Adam Hadwin, who was the 2nd highest Canadian golfer, finishing top 10 getting sacked big time. https://twitter.com/sam_golf/status/1668041024235610114?t=lV8SGcekEo8Dimg610sgmA&s=19
ReplyDeleteEdit. Tied 12th.
DeleteAnd that 72 foot putt was worth $639K. Nice.
ReplyDeleteI get nervous if we put five bucks on the line for a closest to the pin or longest putt during a round.
Taylor threw the ball into the crowd walking off the green. I guarantee somebody from RBC tracked the person with the ball down and paid big bucks to get it. The sponsor would want that big time!
DeleteRegarding historical Canadian events, how could I forget the '72 Summit Series as Mrs. Maritimer reminded me last night? Sheesh, she's got a better memory than me.
ReplyDeleteAnd now back to hockey.
ReplyDeleteDraft MiCHkov if available at 5.
And draft another Russian, Daniil (Et le!) But at 31 if available. I mean his last name says it all. And he's huge.
Speaking of hockey, now that the Canadian golf drought of 69 years is over, guess what is now the longest sporting drought in Canada? Hint: it started in 1967 and is the longest running sit-com in the country.
ReplyDeleteWill they win in the next 13 years to beat that drought lenght?
DeleteWill they win a cup before the last remaining player from that victory dies? The youngest is 76 years old.
Let's check with one of those betting sites to see what odds we can get on these.
ReplyDeleteThe case for big d man. Remember the big 3, remember the St lou cup, and the Montreal run, it was all based on big fucking D men, who did not necessarly light up the scoreboard. The Golden Showers are using the same men that Tampex has bought for years. The way to win the cup is to defend the slot, nothing else matters, thats a Pink Fylod nothing elese matter to all you pinkos,
DeleteI am going to be debbie downer on the putt.
ReplyDeleteNick Taylor read that putt perfectly. He would make that 3 out of 10 times. Golf is for old retired men with a black belt in karate. I played with my sensei today, we could kill anybody as long as they don't have guns.
DeleteI trust in Hugo until I see pictures of them outside the Fourm in a dumpster. Half of Hugo has two bad picks with the Rags, they seem to go for big strong men who can score in the lower leagues. PHOTO
ReplyDeleteJohnathan Merssault, from the Q, we did not want him, nobody wanted him, and he is likely to win the hart or whatevr best playoff person gets.
HuGo are going to get Crappo Kakko from the Rags for magic beans. Watch and see. Speaking of dumpsters, Bargain Bin has been spotted in a dumpster outside of the arena in Winnipeg. Jean Luc and the HillBilly goalie are going to LA.
DeleteI say keep the cap at suzki, if you want more money be more like PJ CPT underpants. Even in this crazy mad max world, 8 million a year is more than enough, If you want more go to TO and suck forewver.
ReplyDeleteAs a Habs fan, I want Treliving to sign Narcos to a $14mil per year for another 8 years. He will keep them in poverty until the Habs win the Cup in 2026.
DeleteCongrats to a Serbian guy named Jokić, a Canadian named Murray and their Denver Nuggets on taking the NBS championship and being the first of two teams to make Ron DeSantis and his state sad in one week.
ReplyDeleteI see Michael Andlauer, minority owner of the Habs will be the new Sens owner.
ReplyDeleteThis means he'll need to sell his shares with the Habs (I assume).
It's pretty obvious, FHF will need to step up and purchase those. We just need a good lawyer.
And about $100M +/- I'm guessing.
10% of about $1.2 billion. That was a good investment...
DeleteSens fans were so excited about the potential of Ryan Reynolds. Be hilarious if he purchased those 10% of Andlauer's Habs shares instead.
DeleteHabs fire their health guys. Big surprise there...
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a good idea to get some new blood in the training room.
DeleteF_ck Vegas.
ReplyDeleteInteresting take on PLD, I remember all those other players wanting out of Columbus and Winnipeg, there is obviously a problem in both places. I actually don't care one way or the other if he comes to Montreal. HuGo will figure it out.
ReplyDeletehttps://cheeringthelogo.ca/2023/06/13/dubois-unfair-treatment/
Post SCF thoughts;
ReplyDelete- fůck Vegas, except their small, franco Conn Smythe winner
- fuck a trophy named after a leaf and worse the ugliness of said trophy
- rename the SC playoff MVP to the Jean Beliveau trophy (or Patrick Roy, winner of 3)
- thank you Phil Kessel for cramming SFU bile right back down their throats
- I have zero want/need for PLD
- trainers and 'specialist' likely are to blame (in part) for TFS' demise
- New Sens owner is from Montreal, owns 10% of the Habs and SFU call him a toronto-based businessman
- fűck bettman
I like the Jean Beliveau trophy.
DeleteGood for Phil sticking it to the SFU, especially Simmons.
I bet Buttman was partying it up with the Golden Cheaters last night. $12mil over the cap, no wonder Canada can't win the Cup anymore.
What did doughnut boy say about the SFU?
DeleteI missed that
Also interesting article about PLD
Cutting through the noise
Well written
Go Habs
Dont blame the player blame the game. Give Vegas credit they played a pee filled pool to the top.
ReplyDeleteIt reinforces what we always knew, giant defenseman win cups. 10 million dollar goalies do not.
A certain $10 million dollar goalie beat the Pissers the last time Vegas was in the playoffs.
DeleteLots of talk HuGo trying to move up in the draft, possibly even to #2. Seems like they are trying to take Michkov out of the equation. I say bring it on. The Habs have a shitload of draft picks and decent prospects. As Larry the Cable Guy sez: "Get'r Done!!"
ReplyDeleteDGBG would move up to second and take Michkov
Delete@CHester, phat Phil told an on ice reporter that Toronto media said I couldn't win. I'm a 3 time champion so ha ha fuck you guys.
ReplyDelete"Toronto said I couldn’t do it and now I’ve done it three times.
Delete“Remember that,” Kessel said to them.
I've made up my mind that Hughes and Gorton want Will Smith. That's the guy. That's why they want to move up. They only need to get to #3 to do it.
ReplyDeleteBut, if they can determine that Columbus will take Carlsson, then they only need to get to #4.
DeleteHA! I knew it! Well done Gary you little weasel. I didn't watch one second of the NHL after the putrid leaf were eliminated.

We knew it was going to be bad but holy hell. The Stanley Cup Finals national broadcast ratings down 43% this year from last year. It was the least viewed Stanley Cup Finals since 2007.
I hope those ratings were for sportsBet, mecca of gamblers.
DeleteI think they were for ESPN. sportsbet won't reveal if they've got bad numbers.
DeleteThere was precious little reason to watch as each round became less and less careworthy.
DeleteRead an interesting comment/tweet that the NHL no longer really needs to revenue generated by rich teams like the Habs and the NYR, amongst others, because bettman is beyond happy that a Vegas team, that represents gambling, is the new stream of $ to take from fans. Gambling (and the sfu) will ruin the game.
ReplyDelete*Bettman*, gambling and the SFU will ruin the game.
DeleteThe NHL will eat itself
DeleteWill Smith will say to Columbus "KEEP MY MF NAME OUT YO MF MOUTH!"
ReplyDeleteHeh Heh, nice...
DeleteWell
ReplyDeleteWhen we get too fed up with Buttman
We can go the WHL way and create a new problem for their status quo
Worked back then
Should work again
Go Habs
Steve has to vent or explode, for sure its not pretty but its real
ReplyDeleteI am tired of the LGBT Q2 alphabet war.
More and more the world is making old people like me , say
FUCKING EH! I grew up and lived in a rational world. Oh course many of us have children and we are pleading with our sons in laws to get a vesicostomy.
Steve
Wow
ReplyDeleteGo Steve!
Go Habs
R.I.P. Daniel Ellsberg, whose spirit seens to have taken over Steve briefly.
ReplyDeleteHey the M not sure if you're checking out the US Open but it sure as hell is a lot less fun than the Canadian Open. And it sounds like a morgue in comparison. I'd like to see Ricky hand in there.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it'll pick up when the leaders get out there...
DeleteHaven't watched any of the US Open. Any Canadians in contention? I saw Mac Hughes was in it early but haven't checked lately.
ReplyDeleteThey all played poorly today. They're +5,+6,+8
DeleteCongrats to Wyndam Clark on winning the US Open. Canada's golfers all sucked, I think they were tired from celebrating last weekend.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you guys spend any time on Twitter, apparently Whiskey is trying to recruit PLD to Montreal.
DeleteI would lose about 40 balls playing on that golf course. Miss the fairway and good luck finding your ball, because oddly there aren't thousands of people watching or loads of course marshals around when I play.
DeleteI don't see the need to acquire PLD unless you really don't think DaCH and Nature can handle things. He isn't injured much, so there's that. But I am anticipating Beck at 3rd C (maybe not for another year, takibg Devo's spot), with Sevans a sokid #4 C. And I'd sign MonaHab first too. Less $$, less Cap hit, less of a gamble.
DeleteI see PLD more as a winger playing with Nature and Whiskey. DaCH playing with Powerhorse and MonaHab. Throw the rest of them in a sack and see how they shake out. I don't even see Slowkovsky in the equation. Laval is a good spot for him.
DeleteAll you PLD deniers are ignorant sluts. He will be traded to Boston for a bag of pucks. He will enter that dressing room for the first time an puke on the spokes. Next year he will sign with LE HABS 7 for 8. Dont be ignorant sluts, thats my advice
DeleteI think it’s rare to have a local boy want to come home
ReplyDeleteHe’s been as vocal as can be about it
Hugo should be in the drivers seat with PLD
I am just hesitant about throwing the keys to him never mind the vault
Give him a low base with incentives and 8 years would make him what 34 at the end
Say we are competitive in 2 to 3 years give him a 5 year contract and throw in Celine Dion
Go Habs
Geez CHester, you were either up late or up very early!
DeleteMy opinion of PLD is ... he will not be Beliveau nor will he be Drouin. Somewhere in the middle. Hopefully he can be a 30 goal 85-90 point guy. If he gets 8 years he would be 33 at the end.
Honestly, I just hope the Habs can stay reasonably healthy and compete for a wild card spot. That's all I'm asking for.
MonaHab signed for one year. Good. What does this mean in the PLD saga? Probably nothing.
ReplyDeleteNow, bring back CHomodore for one year.
I thought the base salary would be closer to $1M with larger '# of games played' bonus because what's $15K to these guys? But nonetheless I hope he can stay healthy. Might become a good trade chip at the deadline if he can.
DeleteThis pleases me greatly. He still has something to prove and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he has a career year and then gets to command some serious coin. GYFHG!
DeleteAwesome deal. Glad he wants to remain a Hab. Funny the SFU had the toronto-area player going to the leaf and Treviling. Nice try.
DeleteBest of all, this probably signals that the Habs are not in on PLD this year. If he's a UFA next year, then we'll see. If not, no big loss.
DeleteI think PLD is still in play. I believe he has his sites set on Montreal and his agent Pat Brisson is trying to accommodate him. I also believe this will be a 3 way deal somehow maybe with LA involved. They are trying to free up cap space as well.
DeleteLeaf fans are bleibers because of the magic of the belieb buddy of Cpt Underpants. Well I beliber PLD signs for less than 8 for max term, this year or next. Thats what I would do, because I saw his face and now I am a believer.
DeleteNice reference to The Monkeys tune
ReplyDeleteI was a huge fan of the TV show
Wow time warp
Go Habs
Bertrand Raymond says TFS shouldn’t go in The Hall cause he never won the cup
ReplyDeleteI remember reading all kind of stupid things he wrote over the years and always had a racist tone
Good riddance
Go Habs
One of the biggest Habs haters/separatiste clowns around.
DeleteI guess they would have to throw Roberto Luongo out of the Hall...
DeleteIt would be hilarious if Anaheim takes Michkov 2nd overall, it would throw all the clown draft 'experts' predictions out the window. I'm sure HuGo will have all their ducks in a row anticipating this.
ReplyDeleteFantasy: PLD traded to Mtl for DVo, Logan, pick 31 and a B prospect. Habs draft Michkov or Leonard with pick 5.
ReplyDeleteReality: PLD signs 8 year deal with LA and bargainbinbergy. Habs draft Dvorsky or Reinbacher.
Keep the booze handy next Wednesday either way to celebrate or cry.
Happily next Wednesday is my poker night. So I can't be tempted to listen to the clown show. I'll keep a half an eye on it. And whatever happens, happens.
Deletesteve
DeleteMichov and can we call him strawberry Vodko? he goes at 3 or 4. We get the non rapping all ice dancing will Smith. You know I can live with this. For sure StrawberryVodkov wants 14 million on his next contract. Will Smith will only slap you in the face and then apologize and sign for 8
ReplyDeleteNice rendition of 'Comfortably Numb' steve 👍
ReplyDeleteTo the families of Capt. David Domagala, 32, and Capt. Marc Larouche, 53, my condolences, and gratitude for their service and having paid tge ultimate price in defence of their country.
ReplyDeleteHard to believe the Titanic has claimed 5 more lives 111 years after it sank. I don't understand the fascination with an old sunken hulk. There should be an international agreement to ban anymore of these dives. An unnecessary tragedy brought on by over confidence.
ReplyDeleteIf Putin's regime collapses today, does that change HuGo's equation inre: thinking of Michkov at #5? If so, probably the same case for the teams ahead of the Habs Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteInteresting times.
Slava Ukraine! GYFHG!
I played golf today with my buddy that used to scout the Q for the Blues. He told me he wouldn't be surprised if San Jose takes Michkov since they are starting a rebuild and don't need him right away. If that's the case, either Carlsson or Smith will be the pick.
DeletePLD is comming here for a bag of pucks.
ReplyDeleteThe question, its a big question.
ReplyDeleteWed is the draft.
ReplyDeleteSo take someone who will take 8 for 8. Thats the new equation in the draft, you gonna walk on me son at 25, well I am going to kick your ass now, and you will be rich and you will not thank me later.
People think LA want PLD. They don't need him. It's Hellebucyk.
ReplyDeleteBombshell Mickov goes at 3.
ReplyDelete2nd or 4th.
DeletePLD thinks he is in the NBA. Deal at the draft, number 31 pick, Devo, a small skilled D man named Harris and Edmunston, with the HOF as a throw in. Of course the Hoff will not go to the PEG.
ReplyDeleteWell I never been punCHed in the face, an I never played pro hockey. In fact even in the day when everyone down south would take any hockey play er with a beautifal mind, I never got the tap;
ReplyDeleteSo you know know all my secrce about being extrondaaly bitter that I wa not drafeecccdf,
If I was in the draft today I would be selectedt by the PEG. Little forward who can skate, has a great wriistshot, and he came fom Haliburton so mosquitos are just like a way of life
Looks like the Habs have been played. Again.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I was ambivalent about PLD.
