I also agree with CHester's assessment of Whiskey and Powerhorse (to a degree). They don't need CC to backcheck let Nick to do that. As for PoHo, he can backcheck because he is big and fast and he was never going to get you 30 anyway. Let him play his north south game and let CC free wheel. It ain't rocket science here folks.
A win is possible tonight as the Isles play at home last night and had to travel. The Habs are playing their 'A' goalie. However, I'm not holding my breath.
Geoff needs to start looking at the bigger picture. Pat Hickey wrote an article talking about that very subject. Every year the Habs go on a long Xmas road trip and every year they take a nose dive in the standings. Do you want money or do you want to compete? Sounds very ml$e to me.
Their first round pick which will surely be a tip 10, very likely a top 5, should be in play as part of a package to trade for a true sniper. They won't draft one, so trade the pick and get a known asset that can score.
Ok So I switched the channel to a recorded Fball game and I flick back to see we took 35 shots and GI Finn scores Powerhorse scores 2 And CC scores Well that will teach me Go Habs
OK, Justin Barron you are on my naughty list with that stupid play. Remember Murray Barron aka Barron von Pylon? Young Barron is now Barron von Clumsy.
It's not the first time he's made a really bad decision at a really bad time. As a local boy I want him to do good but his D zone work is iffy. I'd bring AX back and sit JB for a bit.
Three players off the Schneider tonight but that was unnecessarily close to get a win. Coach Marty's hair will be even grayer by the end of the season.
So struble has the same number as the Urologist Must be a nic in there somewhere So who is in and out when that Justin guy comes back I’m looking at red Barron and that guy from the dead things Barron flipped the puck out of our end too many times now that wrong savard is back we will have to start a rotation or package up a trade Way too many D And Ax man shouldn’t be in the AHL there I said it I’m rambling sorry Go Habs
As Saint Paddy mentioned last night, it's time for HuGo to cash in some of his many chips and get his team some scoring help. It's unlikely to happen during the season but let's say Tampa doesn't make the playoffs this spring. And let's say negotiations with upcoming UFA Steven Stamkos don't pan out. Might BriseBois look at starting to retool his team? HuGo has 22 draft picks in 2024/25 including 3 first rounders and 3 second rounders plus all his young left D. Maybe they could pry SS out of Tampa and sign him for 3 years? Just a thought.
Anyway, I hope HuGo hangs on to most of his veteran players, especially MoneyHab, I'm signing him to a 3-4 year extension. Soon.
Congrats to my cousin's grandson (is that my third cousin?), playing defence for Canada East in the World Junior A Challenge at 5pm. Good luck to him and the entire team. Go Canada!
Yessss Go Bills go Josh! I've been a closet Bills fan ever since Marv left for Murica and greener pastures. Close so many times but no cigar with Kelly and the gang. Anyway I digress but it was nice to beat the Chiefs and the exceptionally hyped Stars with all the blabber about Dax the MVP Josh and the D just stuffed them. Beauty. Love to see the Bills get another chance for that exceptionally ugly statue/thing So ya Go Habs
From 15 to 19, the Habs record on this trip was 15-20. Last year it was 1-5-1. In 2021, they had a 10 game road trip in January instead and that was 1-5-4. So discounting that year and the missed 2020 season, a record of 16-25-1 over the past 6 'normal' years. That's a .393 winning percentage, which would give them 5-6 points over a 7 game trip. That seems about right. My predictor had them going 2-4-1 (with all the points coming from the first 3 games, starting with an OT loss tonight). I hope they can do better, more like 4-2-1, but won't hold my breath.
Bottom line, to the earlier points about this trip, it's an obvious letdown for the team, forcing them to make this trip every Christmas. Molson could easily make up the Cirque du Soleil revenue by icing a team that constantly makes the playoffs and contends deep into them. Rather than the circus on ice we've been forced to watch for the past decade (Covid year near miracle excepted).
I would be happy if they went something like 2-3-2 or 3-3-1. I think the win Saturday and all those monkeys put back in their cages should get them off on the right foot. Hopefully.
Yes they do. No Kyle Conner to worry about and if they shut down shitfly and Ehlers they have a chance. The Jets got a couple good players for PLD and seem better without him. I think the Habs dodged a (drouin) bullet there.
That article is why I think the time is now (or soon) to make a trade for some offence, rather than wait for the offseason. Cheryl Pounder in her "what Canadian teams need for Christmas" bit, agrees the Habs are in need of a sniper. Would HuGo trade for the first player they traded away from the Habs? Teapot Toffoli is a UFA after this year. He scored 47 goals last year. He has 13 in 29 games this year so on pace for about 35-38ish. He will be 32 in April. Sign him to a three year contract. Four if a friendly enough deal. Cost to get him from NJ is probably Jordan Harris and a 2nd in 2024 (they don't currently have a 2nd round pick)...or something similar. I don't think I'd give a high-mid first round pick for him.
Wait, he only had 34 goals last year, my filter was including this year too. So definitely not more than a roster player or prospect(s) and a 2nd.
I'd prefer a more 'elite' scorer (and younger), but those are tough to find so would require a much larger (and likely offseason) deal. And I'm not sold on Nylander yet...
Two years of tanking was enough for me. HuGo has built the core, Nature, Whiskey, Dach, Hook, Ghoul, von Clumsy, Popcorn, Rock Hutson, maybe even Monty, plus pieces in Laval. Time to take some of those multitude of picks they are sitting on and cash in for a sniper. Now, where is that Ritalin....?
The team is progressing. They're gelling, with Savard back in the groove and Strobe Light and Last Slaf both starting to look like bona fide pros. But this year is still a bust because of DaCH. That doesn't mean tank for me. They've done that enough in recent years and the bounty is starting to bear fruit. I don't expect playoffs this year, but I expect they won't be eliminated til April, and tgat's right on track. Trades and further development of our youth will balance out the competitiveness in a couple seasons.
Also agree and yes, those veteran guys do make a difference. Many posters on various fan sites are all "trade trade trade", eff that keep them and they will teach the youngsters how to win.
The World Juniors just around the corner and I'll have my eye on Team USA more so than Canada. While Owen Beck might one day be a good to great 3rd line C, Boston College teammates Lane "Roch" Hutson and G Jacob Fowler for Team USA are the ones I want to see. Apparently Fowler isn't the projected #1 goalie, so we'll see how that goes. But by all accounts (and by that I mostly mean the numerous accolades hoisted upon him by Global's Brian Wilde), Lane Hutson is the real deal. And I can't wait to see what he does against these players, all the best their countries have to offer, compared to the NCAA competition he normally sees. And a shoutout to Filip "Mesi" Mesar for team Slovakia. I still kind of wish Slaf was joining him, but he has progressed a tremendous amount since being slotted into his rightful place on the top line so that's a no-brainer.
I was just checking the standings. These damn overtime games make such a difference. For instance, if the Habs didn't blow game 1 and give two 6 on 5 goals to the wretched leaf, the Habs would have 33 points in 31 games and the wretched leaf would have 36 in 29 (rather than 32 and 38 pts respectively). They need to start winning some games in regulation to move up the standings is the point. So...JFWIR is my new mantra.
Never really watched much of Brokyn 99 but Andrew Braugher will always be Frank Pembleton from Homicide Life on the street...loves that show! RIP. Fuck cancer
According to a report from Dave Pagnotta of the Fourth Period, the Habs are interested in re-signing Monahan before he becomes a free agent next summer.
“Of their pending UFAs, the Habs do have interest in discussing a contract extension with Monahan and his camp,” Pagnotta reported in a recent article, adding that “those conversations could take place after the New Year.”
Understand this...the effort you put in on this place of ours is sacred. Never a critique of your work...just hated that jersey. Do the Habs have a 3rd jersey this year or has the folly in that buttman or nonsense finally sunk in?
Daughter and bf home from Ottawa so no game for me. Too windy to land so they were diverted to Moncton and put in a taxi for the 2 1/2 hour ride to Hfx.
Hard-fought point. Coulda been a tad hungrier in OT but it was a huge effort to come back from 2-0 and 3-2 with refs tilting the ice the Wild's way most of the game. And they put their bodies in front of shots to kill the ridiculous Whiskey "cross-checking" call with 90 seconds to go in regulation. Hearty stuff.
Happily take that point and laugh at the wretched, putrid, sad sack leaf who only lost 9-3 to a team that lost by the same score to the lowly Blue Jackets a couple days earlier. Eat shit SFU.
Unlike DGMB there has not bee much need for me to help Hugo. Now he has a epic CHance. Trade with Oilers. Soupy is just what our tank needs, and it will also help the team learn how to play defence. We through in Powerhorse, Savard and Kid A. We take back, 3 first, the center that starts with X and the D man who can skate from Sweden. Maybe the money does not work , we may have to retain some salary or take another bum.
Not gonna make the game tonight...too many things to do tomorrow to get ready for the weekend. We have a full house (10) Boxing day so loads of prep Saturday. JFW
Big Country
ReplyDeleteStuart Adamson and the whole band right at the top of their game in that vintage performance.

Aah, another December where Geoff sells out his arena and Habs fans,
ReplyDeleteonce again being on the road during Xmas.
I get it, $$$
Geoff needs to start looking at the bigger picture. Pat Hickey wrote an article talking about that very subject. Every year the Habs go on a long Xmas road trip and every year they take a nose dive in the standings. Do you want money or do you want to compete? Sounds very ml$e to me.
DeleteJust fucking win!
ReplyDeleteThis team can play well but just cannot score.
ReplyDeleteTheir first round pick which will surely be a tip 10, very likely a top 5, should be in play as part of a package to trade for a true sniper. They won't draft one, so trade the pick and get a known asset that can score.
Yes.
DeletePretty easy period for Monty....
ReplyDeleteForget the draft...habs need a fuckingngoal scorer..Trade Alain for a name
ReplyDeleteSadly Jake isn't getting us a player that can help this team.
DeleteI guess Sid doesn't care as much if they lose to the pathetic leaf.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like they have the beginning of a decent recipe. Surprisingly (to me at least), Monty has the best 5v5 numbers in the league. So:
ReplyDelete1. Stop taking stupid penalties.
2. Get a goal scorer (or two)
That's it and that's all.
GI Finn!
ReplyDeleteArmy!
ReplyDeletePowerhorse!
ReplyDeletePowerhorse!
ReplyDeleteNice shot by G.I. Joel
ReplyDeletePoHo!
ReplyDeleteLate but I had flipped over to the football game and missed it.
PowerHorse! Finally! Thank you Santa for the early present!
ReplyDeleteCash it!
ReplyDeleteDouble the PowerHorse!
ReplyDeleteWhiskey!!!!!
ReplyDeletePowerhorse again! Whiskey!
ReplyDeleteGreat forecheck by Slaf, Beauty pass by the Captain. Nice finish by CC.
ReplyDeleteGood period
ReplyDeleteWhen was the last time this team scored four in one period? GYFHG!
ReplyDeleteOk
ReplyDeleteSo I switched the channel to a recorded Fball game and I flick back to see we took 35 shots and GI Finn scores
Powerhorse scores 2
And CC scores
Well that will teach me
Go Habs
60 minutes ffs! The game is 60 minutes!
ReplyDeleteOK, Justin Barron you are on my naughty list with that stupid play. Remember Murray Barron aka Barron von Pylon? Young Barron is now Barron von Clumsy.
ReplyDeleteIt's not the first time he's made a really bad decision at a really bad time. As a local boy I want him to do good but his D zone work is iffy. I'd bring AX back and sit JB for a bit.
DeleteI miss Sheriff/LC too.
DeleteI think Barron rattles easily. The book is out on him: pressure him.
DeleteAgreed 100%
ReplyDeleteI need to amend my earlier list of needs for this team.
ReplyDeleteReDEVOmption!
ReplyDeleteGee Sid, you play your guts out against your childhood favorites but sh*t the bed against the leaf? Thanks for nuthin'
ReplyDeleteAnd without Underpants too. I guess it took all they had to beat the Habs.

ReplyDelete*schneid* stupid autocorrect

Way too many D
And Ax man shouldn’t be in the AHL there I said it
I’m rambling sorry
Go Habs
Despite what our eyes are seeing, Barron finished the game with 2 helpers and was +3 in 17:55 ice time, so teamwork eh?
DeleteGood for the Horse.
ReplyDeleteRomanov has lost his cool Habs vibe.
ReplyDeleteAs Saint Paddy mentioned last night, it's time for HuGo to cash in some of his many chips and get his team some scoring help. Seems like just yesterday before he signed his contract in 2016 that it was a sure thing that Stamkos was going home to play in Toronto.
DeleteCongrats to my cousin's grandson (is that my third cousin?), playing defence for Canada East in the World Junior A Challenge at 5pm. Good luck to him and the entire team. Go Canada!
ReplyDeleteHappy to see the monkey off a couple of Key backs. But I still want a top 3 pick.
ReplyDeleteKonsta Helenius will be in the Habs wheelhouse at around 7 or 8. He will be the new Saku maybe better.
DeleteBetter start working on a nic...lots of options here.
DeleteWon't be an easy one but JFW !
ReplyDeleteHow 'bout dem Bills !

DeleteOmg, the Sens promoting Chocula to interim head coach! Nice to see the Habs aren't the only team in the recycling business!
ReplyDeleteCan you direct and assistant coach to fill out the game sheet, your hired? I thought Mylick was a cheap bastard. Freefalling, we will stop in June
DeleteNo Gawley tonight. It's already looking up.
ReplyDeleteA fast paced, low event period.
ReplyDeletePoHo!!!
ReplyDeleteJust Powerhorsing around!
ReplyDeleteDevo!
ReplyDeleteDevo!
ReplyDeleteThere is no question that is a good goal. Any other decision is 100% bullshit.
ReplyDeletePowerHorse didn't just get rid of that monkey I think he slew it as well.
ReplyDeleteDVo coming alive as well.
Lots of red sweaters in that rink.
Does the NHL track missed passes I wonder? Quite sure the Habs would be near the top of the league.
ReplyDeleteA decent game, happy with at least a point.
ReplyDeleteRed Barron strikes again!
ReplyDeleteBarron von Clumsy!
ReplyDeleteRed!
ReplyDeleteHappy that Red contributes on offense but I'm still worried about his D play, especially when under pressure.
ReplyDeleteDid you have a W on your chart tonight? Too lazy to look...
DeleteHad an OT loss
DeleteSweet! An extra point.
DeleteHappy to see Jake Allen get a win. Another monkey slain.
ReplyDeleteNice win. Need to learn to hold onto a lead.
ReplyDeleteFunny, when I look at that new Raquel pic all I can think of is "Ride'em Cowboy!" Cowgirl?
ReplyDeleteOoh !
DeleteI cant tell from the photo how extentsive it is. But there is magnificant thigh gap
DeleteDon't look now but there is a front page article about the Habs on the toronto sports network website. The apocalypse is upon us.
ReplyDeleteThat article is why I think the time is now (or soon) to make a trade for some offence, rather than wait for the offseason.
