  1. I'll go first.

Seeing rumours and speculation on a PLD possible buy out. Of course, certain elements say maybe the Canadiens should take a flyer on him. No, just no, PLD has proven to be a prima donna every where he has been. He would be a bigger flop than Drouin was. He is L.A.'s problem let them deal with it.

I'm watching the 'Nucks/Preds game and Van has a goalie named She Loves. 5 minutes left in the second still 0-0.

  2. I'm looking forward to this off season more so than last year. The previous season was all about 5 high end forwards, Bedard, Fantilli, Carlson, Smith and Michkov. It seemed from the get go that Hughes would pass on the enigmatic Russian and so they jumped on the Right Hand D. Getting Newhook took a little of the sting out of that pick.

This year it has to be 99.9% that Montreal will get that elite forward as after Celebrini goes I believe the next 3 teams will take one of the high end D available, Levshunov, Parekh, Dickinson or Buium because those guys are so valuable and hard to get, leaving the next enigmatic Russian, Demidov and all the rest of a great bunch of forwards. I'm so looking forward to the Draft this year. Plus, whoever else Hughes manages to snag on the trade market.

Agree on the hard no for PLD
His 15 goals puts him right there with GI Finn for oooh five big ones more
Plus like The Maritimer says he has whined his way out of two clubs who went out and got him so you’re welcome
I think the pressure here for a St Agathe boy would be too much and yes we don’t need Druid 2.0
As for our new sweed welcome to the most stacked D line gang of prospects in the NHL

  13. With Edmonton meeting Vancouver we are guanteed a Cdn outfit in the Campbell Conference final. I think most will pick Edmonton and that seems fitting, given their relative playoff experience but I still have little faith in the Oilers defence and goalies to imagine them getting any further than that.

  32. And tge best part (from Luke Fox):

"Marner and Tavares both have full no-move clauses and one year remaining on their contracts. Big raises for Nylander and Matthews kick in next fall, which will sap any raise in the cap ceiling."

As with TurlePleks, Now it's Domini and Munster who tried but couldn't make the Leaf successful.

But they have Reaves locked in for 2 more years, eh? Oof

    ReplyDelete
  33. steve9:58 AM

The annual LED autopsy continues without change. From the Globe and Mail
"here are no good ways to lose a series in overtime, but allowing your opponent to float a one-hundred-foot billiards pass off the end boards to their best scorer, who has just tiptoed through the middle of your entire squad, while your goalie sits so far back in his net it looks like he is sheltering in place, must be among the worse.
They played seven periods without Matthews and those were their best seven periods in the series.

Marner was invisible throughout, though you did catch a glimpse of him right at the end as Pastrnak treated him like a practice pylon.

Tavares was good for a four-million-dollar player, though they’ll have to keep paying him 11."

The leaf dynasty has peaked at the start line.

I'm interested to see where Suzuki finishes in the voting. I would think he's got to be top 10...but then I don't see a lot of other teams play so I can't really say he should be in spot x vs spot y.

Which is why these awards are subjective. Even the writers that vote primarily watch their teams play and base their vote on stats, not the eye test when it comes to players aside from their own. I wonder how many voters are from the SFU region?

    Atlanta Hawks (NBA) - 1959
Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL) - 1967

Even if you're not a team of the other big American sports, here are five teams with a longer history of ineptitude than the wretched leaf that you can cheer for to win a championship before them. Be awesome to see Tronna at the top of this list. The Lions have a good team and could win a Superbowl this year or next if the cards fall right. I don't follow baseball or basketball enough to know the current status of those teams.

Also, just 50 more years and the leafs will tie the Cubs record of 107 years. We may not be around for that one, but hopefully it's still on the table when our times are up.

    ReplyDelete
  59. So one of the reasons they don't do the lottery live is that it's boring AF. You can find last year's draw on YouTube. This year's should be up before long.

Thing is they publish the 1000 set of 4 number combinations before the draw. So you can look it like it is a bingo card. The Habs this year had 85 out of 1000 combinations.

So they could draw the first three numbers. Then pause for dramatic effect. There will be 11 possible winning combinations remaining, each with a team tied to each set of numbers. Display those 11 sets of numbers. You might see that SJ had 6 of the 11 combos...but just maybe the Habs had one of the remaining numbers. Or other teams. Dramatically waiting for that last number...put up some odds for each team that has one of the 11...then draw the last number and BANG! "It's number 12 (for example) and Sam Jose gets the first overall pick!"

I guess where that hits a snag is doing the 2nd pick, what if it's San Jose again? I'd say in that case the remaining picks don't change.

  61. So just like the Shakespearean play the Lottery was 'Much Ado about Nothing'.

Hughes pretty much stated he wouldn't take a LHD at #5 so that eliminates Dickinson, Buium and Silayev. I still believe Chicago takes Levshunov (RHD) and Anaheim takes Parekh (RHD) because they are the scarcest commodity. That leaves Columbus to take one of the lefties. Montreal takes a forward from among the many available. The question will be does Hughes parlay the Winnipeg pick and one of the many others in 2024 or 25 plus one of his spare D into another top 10 pick this year or another under 25 'project'?

  62. CHester10:20 AM

I wonder if we could get the Lindstrom fellow and trade up to get one of those big D men. I know we have a loaded bunch of D prospects but a couple of those in the draft look really good, I might consider Red Barron and the little one whos name escapes me now quite expendable along with a pick. Just thinking.
    Go Habs

  63. Listening to a bit about the lottery last night and apparently my idea above (the 7:09pm post) will be happening next year. I did send it to NHL Public Relations too so that's obviously why they've already made this decision. And apparently last night, the Sharks won the first three draws and on the fourth attempt it was Chicago. Apparently that's also the first time they've had to do an extra draw, let alone two extra draws, but I guess they'll do that shit on Live TV next year.

Hopefully we will care even less because our team is in the playoffs this time next year. I still haven't figured out the conditions of that Calgary 1st round pick that 'may' belong to the Habs next year.

NO MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE, the team u cheer for is who u cheered for growing up! none of this made up split allegiance! raise yer hands, how many ppl in mtl would proudly declare somebody else as their second favourite team like now when our boys arent even invited? the best u can do is cheer for juulsen, de smith, kulak, druid, lekhy, but not rah rah for another team!

WatCH for a move on Beckett Sennecke. Most likely we trade up for the 16 th pick. This guy could be the sleeper pick of the draft. Its looking more and more likely we get Tig IG, Iggy CH

How to compete with the fucking 500 vice presidents in Toronto. Due to the rise in value of an NHL franchise, there will be about 30,000 vice presidents in the future. Basicly anyone who has ever posted some kind of fitnees stuff, and anyone who has posted that the people in the himilayas
can fly will be employed by the Leaf. We on the other hand, have welded shut every dumpster within a 10K radius of the the the the plade where some trains stop. The battle on the ice is secondary. The battle in the ex suite is bloody. Lots of plastic surgery and wellness after the fact.
Lets cut down the forest to project it in the future for the benifit of all mankind who will
have no idea what talking forest.

  83. I've long stopped reading all the opinion (or demands in some cases) pieces about who the Habs should draft. Looking at Slaf's development (though I was very skeptical), I will just let Hughes and his team do what they think is right.

What I do know is what Brian Wilde has brought up a number of times, is that the Habs need to score about 30 more goals next year. That puts them in line with Boston and FLA numbers. I think they can do that with the growth of Slaf, a healthy Dach, and undoubtedly a UFA add. The bigger issue is that they need to give up almost one less goal per game on average. So yeah, this isn't the time to trade one of your two defencemen with more than 3 years of experience.
And is our goaltending good enough? Primo/Monty were 41st/50th in GAA and 20th/38th in Save%.
Monty has his moments but is Primo the guy until Fowler is ready?
What about giving up on them and taking a shot at Laurent Brossoit? Sounds like he's from QC but isn't (he's from BC). 31 years old. Great numbers last year with a 2.00 GAA and .927 Save% with WPG.
Or big Anthony Stolarz with FLA. 2.02 and .925
Both of them gave up nearly one goal less per game than our guys. REalizing some of that is on the D, but not all. For a while, each of our guys it seemed were good for one stinker per game. It's like my golf game, gotta get rid of those from your game to move on up.

Anyway, this is me not trying to think of the Habs at the beginning of a very long off season...

Status quo on the goalies, at least for 2 years. We also have two great prospects in the pipeline, especially Fowler and I believe a Russian one too. ~ moe

  85. I can live with the current goalie tandem, less than $4mil for both. Yes, they both lay an egg occasionally but the Habs D is sometimes at fault. You have a riverboat gambler, a slow of foot vet and a number of interns learning on the job. Lots of work for MSL and Robidas to do yet.

    ReplyDelete
  86. steve5:41 PM

The game should be called goalie not hockey. However a good goalie no longer exists. That why a good tandem is better. Its like knowing your brakes are going to fail after x many stops.

    1. That NYR POS, yes we hate him for taking out Price, but he is another case of what could have been. Louis Leblanc taken the pick before, possible pressure from the francophone media? David Pastrnak taken the pick before Nikita Scherbak. KK taken one pick ahead of Brady Tkachuk. Shane Doan taken one pick ahead of Terry Ryan. I'm sure there are other examples.

The team that took out Koivu’s eye (costing us a Cup) is eliminated by the team that took out Price’s legs (costing us a Cup).
Now… will they face the team that tried to kill Pacioretty (costing us a Cup) or the Panthers?

    Meanwhile, in Trahnna...

So the players this mgmt team put together can't win in the playoffs, despite having a really great coach (and even Hayley F. Wickenheiser on hand for advice)!

So they fire the great coach, whose contract they'd earlier extended still hasn't even begun.

So they hired Craig Berube so fast, you'd think he was in high demand in an urgent bidding war.

    So TO

    So, so, so TO

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I would say the TO country club has come to an end. Berube won't be afraid to call out the prima donnas and he won't be apologizing to them in the media after like Shelley used to do. He also won't let narcos chase his personal stats. L'il mitchie will be giving his agent a list of teams he will go to. Johnny Tranna might thrive under Berube, he would like his veteran players.
