Last pic reminds me of a TV show called Here Come The 70's
Used to love watching that woman walk into the ocean
Concerning The M's post of older players who know how to win, taking a look at our veteran bottom lines and remembering what The Commodore brought to us and how well the vets have adjusted to the PK and allowing the rolling of 4 lines it makes sense to spend some cap on the bottom 6.
It puts vets on the ice as well as in the room. Maybe we look at resigning Army. That would give us Gally Powerhorse and Army as vets to balance out our younglings of Suzi CC Slav Dactator TJ and soon to arrive Half-a-Dov. I wouldn't be adverse to Hugo signing a 30 something forward who still has some life as well as replacing Savvy, should he depart, with another vet. Rino and Bathing Suit still need to marinate. Our flash in the pan seems to be over and we have crashed back to reality and so be it. No knee jerking from Hugo please. Steady as she goes Mr Sulu.

    1. I remember that show well. You can see the intro of the (naked) girl waling into the ocean on YouTube.

As for your suggestions for retaining and adding some vets, I recall the CHommodore/Army/Staal 4th line in the 2021 playoffs, you couldn't get the puck when they were on the ice. Size matters.

Led by a fat, greedy orange turd, a great many of them have forgotten about the Iran hostage crisis, 9/11 and just a few days ago, helping to keep L.A. from burning up. Canada needs to turn our backs on a now enemy state who is trying to take us over with economic force. I can't do much but I can look at labels on products and if it says made in the USA it stays put and can rot on the shelf.

I said yes and asked her why and she said because he gave her a heart on her post. I informed her that Sid is captain Canada and a bit of a guy in the hockey world and she seemed pleased that he did what he did. So she followed the thread of the post and it was actually Sid that did that. So good for Sid and good for Mrs CHester.

As for Canada, well, I think the words of Winston Churchill sums it up nicely:

"We ask no favours of the enemy. We seek from them no compunction… We will have no truce or parley with you or the grisly gang who work your wicked will. You do your worst – and we will do our best. We do not expect to hit without being hit back, and we intend with every week that passes to hit harder. Prepare yourselves, then, my friends and comrades, for this renewal of your exertions. We shall never turn from our purpose, however sombre the road, however grievous the cost..." – Winston Churchill

  37. With 10 games to go before the break, I suggested the Habs would need 14 of 20 points to keep pace and stay in the race. They have since gone 1-4-1. 3 points. 4 more games. So even if they magically win those 4, that would be 9 of 20. More likely they split these 4 at best and end up with 5 of 20.
Hell, a 20-10 record the rest of the way only gets them to 93 points. I don't know that will be enough.
21-9 gets them to 95. Simple math tells me that is .700 hockey. I think the dream is over.

But I still think they could be both buyers and sellers at the deadline. Those moves that were being rumoured may very well be true about a top 6 and a d-man. But I also can see some of the UFAs being moved as well. Savard, Armia, Evans, Devo. Any or all could end up moving. And the returns used in packages for other deals to bolster the lineup for the future.
Or maybe the trade deadline comes and goes and we have the same team. WTF do I know?

    2. Oh for sure, 2nd round at best for a couple of those guys. And like you said Hughes already has a LOT of draft capital. You're probably right, it will be the off season we see something...but I won't be surprised if he does something crazy before the deadline either. If it's something that doesn't hurt the grand plan, he'll do it.

      Delete
    3. Yes, for sure he will. Jeff Gorton mentioned on the sick podcast that they will try and help them make the playoffs, if possible, but they won't deviate from 'The Plan' so anyone that's acquired will be in the 25-28 age bracket.

As for politics, I am pretty active on Bluesky as scottinmontreal on that topic. Elon Musk is the bigger threat and yesterday it was good to see people (and a few Dems from Congress) finally take to the streets. We have to be concerned about the way this Nazi is infiltrating all our systems, getting control of key levers of the U.S. govt. and shaping our collective discourse to turn us all against one another, while stifling any science and research that doesn't serve his companies and their underlying purposes. The evangelical right has their boy in JD Vance and Musk will deliver the armageddon they cherish. Trump is only there long enough to firmly establish their wet dream of a fascist Amerikkka, and to work with Bibi to get all non Zionists out of the holy land. They'll ditch their trojan horse POTUS (or let him die of natural causes, which may not be far off) and take over for hood. Serious Handmaid's Tale stuff. The "only two genders" thing is just a shebolah to create the first class of victims for us all to fall. As I wrote in my song, Stoke the Fire:

    Recipe for murder
    Divide the horror
    Give the people a scapegoat
    And point the finger

As a Canadian, all Trump's 51st state shit makes my stomach churn and my resolve stiffen - to fight to the death to stop him, and make sure my kids and grandkids live in a free Canada. I am so grateful to see our PM and his team navigate us through these difgicult days so deftly.

    1. In reality it would be dumb to have Canada as a state bigger than the rest of the country, so there would probably need to be at least 7 new states. NF, Maritima, QC, ON, Prairies, BC, North.
QC might put up a fight for sovereignty, but in the end there are just too many plentiful resources for Trump to resist (like smoked meat, poutine and strippers).

  55. Gee this might be the first game ever with zero posts.

I watched the hi-lites. Great to see them get the W. But only 20 shots vs the Sharks. That's not a good omen vs the worst team in the league. Me thinks the test will be a bit tougher tonight. Toffee scored last night. I expect 1 or 2 from Dano tonight.

hi-lite of the night, oleg's favourite goalie Monty robbing Celebrini on a late PP. Then Evans and Armia pop a shorty for the win.

Speaking of watching older material, I am having fun watching the TV series 12 O'Clock High which ran from 1964-67. All the episodes are on YouTube. It's interesting to see the guest stars, among them are some people who went on to have significant careers. Bruce Dern, Lee Merriwether, Peter Fonda and many others.

Good PK pair Heineman was/is a good fit with them. They need a good 2nd line center, Dylan Cozens is being rumoured, Dach is safer on the wing.

  81. the popular response is that we have been spoiled by the play of TFS for all those yrs, but is it any different from when joycelain or when St.P played? all those bookmarks (thibault, hacket, huet, moog, fiset, scrivens, toker, jaro, hamburglar, lindgren, jakie, cayden...) surely must have known it was a job requirement.

disregard the 6 guys u play behind. its a given u make them look good, and its also on u if they are terrible. those are the rules when u are a goaltender. another rule, especially for this city, either u are a bookmark or u are a legend.

    ReplyDelete
  82. BOO! Send Doobie down and bring back Primo. He is 9-0 with Laval with a 1.96 GAA and .923 Save %.

I kid of course. But I do find it odd that they played Monty vs the weaker Sharks again. It's too late to strategize about making sure you get 2 of 4 points if that was the thinking (by playing your better goalie vs the weaker opponent). Or maybe they think Doobie is 'the guy'.

I assume Swimsuit or BathingSuit is a rough/vague French-English translation of Mailloux? If so, I agree, great name.

3 goals from the back end. That's something I guess. That something being our forwards didn't do enough?

Anyway it is what it is. I'm not going to stress about it. I've mentioned before that the results of these millionaire athletes we follow have no bearing on my life in the end, win or lose. But that said...GYMFHG!
