It's April, Fools!

May Fast Lane's 'Calder Reign' Showers Bring the Habs Playoff Powers

4 fools...12 more years 🤮

  1. Ok it's not quite April yet...close enough.

As exciting as it's been riding in the Fast Lane with Hutson, I think what Captain Suzuki is doing is equally as impressive and important. In the past 30 years, the Habs have had one (1) player reach a ppg pace AND hit the top 20 in scoring. Alex Kovalev in 07/08 with 84 pts in 82 games. That's it. Turgeon and Damphousee did it in 94/95. For this young captain to be heading towards that goal on a team that isn't overly gifted in the offence department is quite spectacular in my mind. I'm just so impressed how he plays in all aspects of the game. He's so smart. Lost in last night's win was his Slick Nick behind the back pass to LH who set up Wool for that wicked one-timer.
As much as LH deserves the Calder, Suzuki deserves to be in the Selke conversation. Not saying he should or would win (I expect that to be Barkov), but he's top 3...top 5 at worst.

How we should say goodbye to the Herb Tarlak era. Herb closed some deals, but he spent way to much time by the dumpster drinking scotCH. ( that was a metaphore for pumping iron, both like a dumpster made of steel. that line was worthy or Mr Cohen.

tsn wouldn't be somewhat, aka non-leaf fans better but hopefully they realize they have an opportunity to cater to the rest of Canada. Like the sn sfu, they have a half dozen leafools on their panels. It is to be expected. I think if mclame were to retire that duthie would move to sn. Regardless we are hooped.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I came here to mention this and expand on the fact that it's kind of weird, especially after Rogers completes their purchase to own 75% of MLSE, that TSN's staff (employed by Bell) would spend so much airtime fawning and drooling over a team owned by their #1 competitor.

      Delete
    2. I think I've mentioned in the past that I used to be on a list for surveys regarding TSN and I constantly mentioned that if they would just produce a one hour "Team X this week" (Team X being Canadian teams) for each team where they review the past week and look ahead to the next week and have a few interviews with players or coaches from each time for their respective shows, it would be a massive draw from the rest of Canada. Hell even a 30 minute show for each would be something. Maybe now that they know they aren't getting the next deal, they will bend on this suggestion? Nah, they're too fucking short sighted and can't see past their blue and white noses.

      Delete
    3. There was a great Twitter account a couple years ago called @TSN_Parody. They posted some really funny stuff about the leafblowers at the real tsn. Since that platform was hijacked by the Nazi I refuse to look at it anymore. I should see if they migrated over to bluesky.

      Delete
    4. yeah i followed those guys too, but I deleted my account in November.

  8. Doing some monotonous work today, so a couple of things.

I've been listening to TSN690 from Montreal the past month or so while working. They have some good stuff, but...
Why is it even a Montreal produced program has ex-Bruin Aaron Ward as a regular guest? Even though in Montreal, TSN is still SFU? Is that it? Are there no anglo ex-Habs that are interested in a post game career in broadcasting?

Another thought. I've always thought that Mike Matheson and Assistant Coach Trevor Letowski could be twins. Hockey Junkie confirmed that in his last review. Not that they're twins, but that they look similar.

Still waiting to see what happens with Jacob Fowler. oleg's saviour Dobes doesn't seem to be working out. Could the Habs possibly insert a 20 y/o rookie as backup? Unlikely. I imagine he goes to Laval.

    1. I see Fowler to Montreal and Kapanen as well. Bye bye Crybaby Josh, enjoy your new career in Pittsburgh or wherever.

  10. sorry i havnt been around lately. was watching and got kinda dejected how that 'fake' upturn finally got exposed vs carolina, philly, and st. lou. i deliberately say 'fake upturn' b/c collecting loser pts when u should have taken both (within 0:60) is not what good teams do. ide like to believe they have turned the corner, but when they slump like this it constantly makes me wonder if they have or not. they they go out and totally outplay the cup champs and everything is as it should be?!

on tn's match, heres what im hoping for:
wifi goes in, but he does NOT take any runs at mikkola (or anybody else). i hope the whole team as a grand unit do absolutely NOTHING in response.

the reason why is b/c if they do, this teams seems to lose focus of the bigger picture and trades blood for pts. in the bigger scope, i want a NO-RESPONCE b/c im thoroughly 50/50 on whether what mikkola did is bad or not.

i fully recognise the unwritten rule, and i fully get where the habs are coming from. if i was a teammate of mikkola, ide defend him, definitely. if i was a hab, ide totally seek vengence, absolutely.

if i was MSL, ide instruct the boys to play a clean game, cleaner than any this yr actually,
but when the match ends, the guy closest to the puck is instructed to blast the puck down the ice exactly the same way it was done to us two days ago.

    1. @oleg, we have to remember that is still a very young team and will be inconsistent. I knew that was going to be a tough road trip and really thought the only winnable game was Philthy but Torts quit a day too early and the Habs got fucked. Winning the Florida game was totally unexpected.
There won't be any retribution tonight as AX is out of the lineup again, unless Savvy or the Pez decides to take matters in their own hands. I hope not as Mikkola is a nobody, he got fined that should be the end of it in my opinion.
I'm expecting a Habs loss tonight with Montyohno giving up his usual 3 or more and Columbus beating the Preds who are playing the second of a b2b to temporarily take over WC2 spot. After tonight the schedule favours the Habs the rest of the way. Get ready for the roller coaster ride buddy!

The evidence is clear: Montembeault is not a true number-one goaltender. At best, he’s a 1B—ideally, a backup. In his 27 wins, he boasts an elite 1.74 GAA, a .937 save percentage, and four shutouts. But in his 23 losses, those numbers balloon to a 4.45 GAA and a .850 save percentage.

He was brought to Montreal on a terrible trade with unrealistic expectations.

  82. Regarding Mr. Bond, I always preferred Roger Moore, he seemed more suave than Connery, whom I liked more as I got older. Timothy Dalton was adequate, Pierce Brosnan was great. Like I said I haven't seen Craig's version yet.

  89. @the M. The new guy is 1000% better. They actually talk about the Habs. Even compliment them a bit. Maybe because of Gorton being a local and that Lane played at BU. They mentioned those things.
They have their homer moments where they complain about a non call or a missed icing.
I tuned into SN and heard Gawley and switched back right away. He is like Trump to me, just can't stand to even hear his voice.

    1. Maybe I should buckle down and brush up on my French. I enjoy the RDS broadcast and get the gist of the play by play and some of the colour, but I just can't keep up with the whole conversation.
But there's nothing like an "Et le buuuuuuutttt!" call by Pierre Houde.

    2. I can watch in French and understand some of the terminology and the hockey phrases and I'm OK with that. I'm watching on shitnet because this game is on the 4K channel. I just hit the mute button when gawley starts spewing.

      Dégagement refusé = icing
Dégagement = got the puck out of the zone

      Hors jeu = offside
