Remember in 1972, grade 7, carting out the tv to watch Team Canada with Ken Dryden in net and we went wild ! Habs vs. Russia and Tretyak on NYE, greatest game ever played. So many great playoffs and wins and awards. Rest in peace Ken.

  2. I have a great pin-up photo of Ken from a Hockey Illustrated magazine circa 1972 that I had framed. It's hanging in my Habs shrine to this day.
I can still hear Danny Gallivan's voice as Dryden was making a glove save "In rapier-like fashion..."

Thank you Ken for a memorable decade 1971 to 1979 helping our beloved Habs win 6 Stanley Cups. I will never forget it.

I would vote that resting on his stick pose, one of the most iconic visions in sport of all time.

These are my Mom's sisters who have been close to for many, many years. Mom passed away over 30 years ago so they have provided me with some maternal continuity.
Anyhow, I saw that my Giants still can't score a TD to save their lives. This season could be Daboll's last shot but they do have a brutal schedule. So, until NY becomes relevant again, Go Bills!

From whence it came I know not, but it coincided with a sudden interest in HFTV on youtube (grest vibe) and NBA, as well as trying to keep up with his old man on Habs comings and goings. I have committrd to Mrs. SiM not to get bogged down in any other spectator sport thsn my belived CH meanwhile. It's enough silliness to expect her to put up with.

  19. A couple of the many heartfelt t ributes to #29 have mentioned how the league has really not taken his reasoned (lawyerly) advocacy for eliminating headshots seriously.

    "In lieu of flowers..."

From here on out, those of us who were at any time inspired by Ken Dryden should pick up the torch and pressure Bettman and thd league to honour this titan of hockey and take his very legitimate concerns more seriously. The DOPS has a history of dismissing dangerously violent shots to the head based on such dubious criteria as "implied intent of the checker" and silliness such as "initial point of contact" and whether their skates were off the ice when contact was initiated...blah blah blah.

Maybe it's time for the NHL to cut the crap and take player safety more seriously than whether they can cash-in with blood-sport neanderthal fans, and admit that the sport is lively and entertaining based on its own merits of skill, speed, finesse and grit.

Any word on when there will be a tribute? Will they do it for the preseason game on September 25 against the leaf, since he also was part of that organization? Will the leaf do anything?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Probably the season opener in Montreal they will do something would be my guess.

      Delete
    2. As I just watched the first three episodes of Inside the Rebuild, one of which leaned heavily on the organization trying to regain their mojo for opening night after a big fail the year before, I was wondering the same thing. Will they pivot and do a tribute during the opening of the season opener? I would think a mention during the first pre-season game and then a major tribute at the opener would be the way to go. What sucks a little, is they open their season in Toronto (again FFS!!!) and they will do a little something too.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I'm repeating myself but : by amerikan Thanksgiving, Sid will be tired of the beatings and losses and being in last place. Dubbie wants McKenna and will be tanking hard. That's when Sid says it's time. HuGo offers a protected 1st round pick in 2025, possibly a 1st in 2026, Crybaby Josh, Struble OR Engstrom, and some other picks and prospects. Sid leads the Habs to the promised land by 2027 at the latest and cements his legacy. The tranna mediots and leafools are dumbfounded.

I admit Crybaby Josh wouldn't get it done, it would take a C for sure so probably Hage or Beck would have to be part of a deal. Maybe Hook if Dubas is hungover or something...

    ReplyDelete
  27. So regarding the possible Sid trade, there has to be money out to match the money in. Sid makes $8.7mil and I doubt Dubee wants to retain any of that. Checking all the Habs salaries at Puckpedia I have come with this scenario : In - Sid at $8.7, out - Hook at $2.9, Strobe at $1.42, Dobes at $975k = $5.3mil. Habs cap space = $4.7mil. That would leave roughly $1.3mil in cap space. It's doable financially, I haven't been this excited about an upcoming season in some time.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Remember, it's likely Dubee wants to tank for a shot at McKenna so winning is not a high priority.

      Delete
  28. I agree it's very plausible that Sid ends up in Montreal, maybe by Christmas. I've been in lock step with the M on this for quite a while. I mean if a couple of old Maritimers say it is to be then it must be...

I'd give those 2 firsts. Maybe throw in a 2nd. Beck for the C that they need. Struble or Engstrom. Not Red. We have to see what he can do since they took that chance at #5 2 years ago. Doobie might actually want a pair of XJacks. I think CB Roy has no trade value.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Talking heads like McSplooge and O'Dog who think the Habs have to sell the farm for Sid are forgetting that Hughes is buying a 38 year old star not a 25 year old one. Big difference.

  72. In response to Chester's last question, while I didn't see the games, it seems the Marlies beat the Habs and then the Bulldogs beat the leaf.
So the answer to the question is that it's the pre-season and teams are still figuring shit out.

One of the writers expects ALLKAPS (I don't know if he has a nick yet) to make the team. I like the looks of the practice lines yesterday, putting Dach and Wool on the 3rd. Demi with Kap and TJ Hooker might be much better for our future superstar. ( though tbh I haven't seen much from Newhook yet to make me a believer).

    1. And Slaf better F off with his slow starts or he might just find himself replaced by said future superstar sooner than later.

  73. I guess I've never been money hungry enough, hence find myself firmly entrenched in the middle class. I get the idea of feeling you're worth more than you're being paid. I was in a union for over 20 years and would be paid the same as some snot nosed kid right out of school.
But I don't get the mindset of athletes prioritizing money over the team. No way in hell is that Krill guy worth $17m per. But stupid Trumper Guerin probably got advice from the orange felon who told him not to worry about it...you don't need actual money to be 'rich' so throw it around like it's confetti.
We can only hope that our young superstars Demidov and Hutson are more like Crosby than a Russian Oligarch.

I am not worried about fast lane rock hard hutson. Maybe we have to go to ten and at the moment that would be a discount. I am worried about Demigod. Russian like to extact full dollar for their natural resources and even ones that are not theirs.

Of all the muggings that took place last night, Strobelight hit the mark. You wanna hit me, eat my stick first then we will talk. That is the only proper response.

  78. So Basu calls him 'Kuh-pannin' rather than 'Kap-a-nun'.
If the former, is he 'pannin' for gold? Miner! Keep pannin'!

  79. DaCH! Good game by him overall too.

  80. I missed all the fireworks in QC last night. I did catch the hi-lites this morning, wow, the Xhekaj bros were on a mission and props to Strobe for helping them out. Travis Green was all in for a goon show it seems but it looks like Marty didn't shelter anyone. Should be quite a battle this Saturday.

  81. I don't recall Nick Cousins being such a dirty prick when he spent that season with the Habs. But maybe that's me wearing my blue-blanc-rouge glasses?
That slash on our young star, to me, was a clear intent to injure. Sens fans will tell you it is very similar to the PK slash on Microfracture. He wasn't suspended for that. But it's 10 years later. Things have changed. This rivalry is almost reminiscent of the Nordique years. So maybe Flojak needs to stay with the team, we can't leave all of the rough stuff to his big bro. Being down a D-man in a game is much more problematic. Thing is the kid also has skill, so fighting shouldn't be his primary objective but rather a deterrent to opponents.

  82. Cousins and Hodgson got fined for their goonery at least that's something.

  83. I don't think the Habs need to keep FloX aka the Deputy around for duty this early in the season. They already have AX aka the Sheriff, Strobe and Powerhorse to keep things honest. However, when the playoffs start (if Montreal is in) then you can bring up the Deputy to keep around if needed in case of any TomWilsonfoolery that might occur.

The Deputy must play another season in Laval. Sure he can be a Pezzati type now, but maybe he can be something greater, and without another season in Laval we will never know for sure.
