Remember in 1972, grade 7, carting out the tv to watch Team Canada with Ken Dryden in net and we went wild ! Habs vs. Russia and Tretyak on NYE, greatest game ever played. So many great playoffs and wins and awards. Rest in peace Ken.
I have a great pin-up photo of Ken from a Hockey Illustrated magazine circa 1972 that I had framed. It's hanging in my Habs shrine to this day. I can still hear Danny Gallivan's voice as Dryden was making a glove save "In rapier-like fashion..."
Thank you Ken for a memorable decade 1971 to 1979 helping our beloved Habs win 6 Stanley Cups. I will never forget it.
Ironically, Habs fans also bid farewell in a different fashion to the most recent Habs legendary goalie Mr. Carey Price aka TFS. It certainly is a gloomy day for us all.
I'm stunned! RIP to one of the greatest of all time. I was only 10 when he retired but I remember those late 70s cups like they were yesterday. I would vote that resting on his stick pose, one of the most iconic visions in sport of all time.
Moat Millenials, Gen Z and Alpha are completely book averse. It's always a struggle with my kids to convince them of the glories of reading actual books.

Didn't get to watch any football today, visited my 90 year old aunt in Fredericton and her 83 year old sister who was visiting from Yarmouth, N.S. These are my Mom's sisters who have been close to for many, many years. Mom passed away over 30 years ago so they have provided me with some maternal continuity. Anyhow, I saw that my Giants still can't score a TD to save their lives. This season could be Daboll's last shot but they do have a brutal schedule. So, until NY becomes relevant again, Go Bills!
My son last year at 20 years old declared himself a Dolphins fan out of the blue... From whence it came I know not, but it coincided with a sudden interest in HFTV on youtube (grest vibe) and NBA, as well as trying to keep up with his old man on Habs comings and goings. I have committrd to Mrs. SiM not to get bogged down in any other spectator sport thsn my belived CH meanwhile. It's enough silliness to expect her to put up with.
A couple of the many heartfelt t ributes to #29 have mentioned how the league has really not taken his reasoned (lawyerly) advocacy for eliminating headshots seriously.

From here on out, those of us who were at any time inspired by Ken Dryden should pick up the torch and pressure Bettman and thd league to honour this titan of hockey and take his very legitimate concerns more seriously. The DOPS has a history of dismissing dangerously violent shots to the head based on such dubious criteria as "implied intent of the checker" and silliness such as "initial point of contact" and whether their skates were off the ice when contact was initiated...blah blah blah.
Maybe it's time for the NHL to cut the crap and take player safety more seriously than whether they can cash-in with blood-sport neanderthal fans, and admit that the sport is lively and entertaining based on its own merits of skill, speed, finesse and grit.
Any word on when there will be a tribute? Will they do it for the preseason game on September 25 against the leaf, since he also was part of that organization? Will the leaf do anything?
As I just watched the first three episodes of Inside the Rebuild, one of which leaned heavily on the organization trying to regain their mojo for opening night after a big fail the year before, I was wondering the same thing. Will they pivot and do a tribute during the opening of the season opener? I would think a mention during the first pre-season game and then a major tribute at the opener would be the way to go. What sucks a little, is they open their season in Toronto (again FFS!!!) and they will do a little something too.
I'm repeating myself but : by amerikan Thanksgiving, Sid will be tired of the beatings and losses and being in last place. Dubbie wants McKenna and will be tanking hard. That's when Sid says it's time. HuGo offers a protected 1st round pick in 2025, possibly a 1st in 2026, Crybaby Josh, Struble OR Engstrom, and some other picks and prospects. Sid leads the Habs to the promised land by 2027 at the latest and cements his legacy. The tranna mediots and leafools are dumbfounded.
