Lots of chatter about the Biere hostile takeover. Verbeek could have locked up Carlsson a year ago for probably $9.5-10mil, maybe a tad more and avoided all this nonsense. Nope, he likes to play hardball (see Zegres, Drysdale, McTavish) and now he's fucked. If he matches, all his RFAs will looking for big paydays as well.
Kent Hughes saw all this coming and acted quickly to lock up his core. He front loaded everything to boot. Smart dude.
If pHilthy does get Leo, Hughes might be able to pluck somebody out of their lineup they can't afford anymore for the second line and Demi.
Funny, no one is talking about the Bowen Byram contract in Chicago. He's good, but not $12.5mil per year good. Maybe Leo's offer isn't that insane after all.
Danny Beer exploiting the crazy loophole. Danny boy, its revenge is a dish best eaten cold, not right off the frying pan.

The smart play is to let him go. Offer sheet someone else for 12M. You got lots of picks.
