Hey, all. Long time, no see. I'm hoping for a miracle, but...start of the season aside, miracles have come few and far between for our Habs. I know it's early, but I'm a sandwich guru, and whip up some tasty vittles here at work. GYFHG!!!
Please win tonight, don't do it for us, do it for KidA. I have never seen him look so dejected as I did during his post-game. It breaks my heart. GYMFHG!
PizzaHut baby! meat panalicious, (crumbled bacon and Italian sausage), with some spicy chicken bites on the side. FWIW, their online ordering has greatly improved.
moe, sure would like to see the Steelers at Gillette for the AFC. Though I picked Denver in my pool...tight game - looks like it will be down to the wire.
Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go!!!!!!! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go!!!!!!!
So I guess the John Scott payment was only the one game last night. Tonight, as I've been tuning in and out, I see Plexxxe getting a penalty for a chicago player high sticking his teammate and an obvious icing that ended in a goal.
You guys say one was offside or was that the same one that should have been icing. Meh doesn't matter - keep digging MT's hole I say since it's obvious this team ain't goin' nowhere.
Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go!!!!!!! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go!!!!!!! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go!!!!!!!
And I've had with the talking heads saying it wouldn't be fair to fire eMpTy because TFS is out and they need to give him a chance and see what happens when he comes back.
DGMB started all this shit we he got rid of CHarger. Inexpensive got-your-back teammate that was worth his weight in gold on and off the ice. A great looking guy with a hot Montreal gal pal, soon to be married. I smell some jealousy. I can't think of anyone outside of a broon and I dare suggest MT2 that had it in for the man. Good luck to Kassian and all that but he wasn't/isn't worth 10 Prusts. The team is lacking the will and want to be a Hab. No disrespect to the Flynns, Mitchells and Fleischmans but they don't bring what CHarger had. Yeah, I'm simplifying things but my heart and head hurts to see this fucking season spiralling out of control. No one player makes team, not even TFS™, despite his nickname but something was lost and for no good reason. Control has become freakish. JT said it well in her latest. This is not good. Time for Geoff Molson to start sacrificing.
I'm not one for stats usually but I saw this one...Since December 2 the Habs have gained 9 points total in the standings. The next "worse" team has collected 17. The fucking leaf have collected 18 points! The best team in the league since 2 December - the Blackhawks have collected 37 points. So the Habs have been the twice as bad as the next worse team in the league......but I'm not one for stats.
Doesn't matter how they shape it, they have been dreadful. The ASG break gives DGMB the time to make a change and get someone in who can "start fresh" and help the team make a run for the playoffs. It's the most natural time for the inevitable change to take place. We've all said the MB doesn't want to make a change in the midle of a season but it has got to the point where he has no choice.MT is just plain making bad decisions. No way that Scrivens should have been in nets last night. Forget the "back to back games" bollocks - Condon has been playing well - Scrivens was a sieve. The first goal set the tone - it shouldn't have happened. Remember that Condon is a rookie and, once again, MT is killing a rookie's confidence with his archaic methods. Ok - he should have probably had the goal that sent the game to OT against St. Louis but overall I think the team has more confidence playing in front of him than Scrivens.
I was talking to someone last night about how the ASG will give time for MT to make his moves. The problem I see with that is the fact that at this point Price is supposed to make his return after that break. Regardless of that, here's the options for what's to take place:
1) Price's return is delayed. MT is given more of an extension because it's not his fault. MT stays.
2) Price is really set to come back after the ASG. Decided it would be unfair to MT to not give him a chance with his starting goaltender back. MT stays.
3) Price is Price on his return, the team can turn this season around even a little. MT stays.
4) Price is rusty or still hurt or the team is just still that bad in front of him, MT given more time until he returns to form. MT stays.
In other words, I don't see any scenario where MB fires MT. The team is already out of the playoffs (games in hand is a technicality), so the whole idea that they were waiting to fall out of the top 8 is done now. So the only way I see it happening is in the off-season. Except;
1) Habs make playoffs. MT stays.
2) Habs miss playoffs. MB convinces Geoff Molson that it's not MT's fault, it's injuries, he's made the playoffs before a new coach is just too big a risk, there's no French coaches out there, etc.. MT stays.
The point being up until a few weeks ago I thought MB was a pretty good GM. He's gone a long way to proving now that he cares more about personal issues (Kassian, Thomas, Scott trade, Therrien, etc.) than what's best for the team. Maybe it's just a run of 'bad luck' just like this historic slump is (as the Therrien loyalists keep screeching across the internet and TV), and he still has some time to straighten things out. But at this point, for me, I don't have much confidence in the GM anymore. This whole thing is a mess and I think it's up to the owner to clean house (again).
I do get 'cha O-Man except for the fact that there has never in the history of hockey been as monumental collapse as we are witnessing without someone losing their job. They played well Saturday night and could have won, but they didn't. St. Louis was pretty riddled with injuries themselves and they played well - and they won. Last night - against a very good team, they lost. MT started the wrong goalie, he let in a very weak goal in the frst few minutes of the game and the Habs never recovered from there. yes they tied it up but it took a lot of work to get there. It was a matter of time - their confidence was destroyed Saturday night after that loss - you could see it in the players movement. Why else does Chip, who has been a bright spot all season, just wave at the Hawks player before the goal? Scrivens was flopping around on the goal too. Why? He was a mile away for goodness sake. Wrong goalie - bad goal - game over! It's on MT. He has to go and if DGMB doesn't see that and make a move then he is as bad the John Scott debacle is making people think he is...which would be a shame...
fact is with TFS we would have won many gaves when the Rubber did not hit the road. I think he is playing well, like the TFS of 2011. However this team can not give up a bad a goal a game and win.
I don't really care anymore about the losing, it's obvious no one in this organization does so I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I still skim through the games later on because I'm not a bandwagon fan, but I honestly don't care about the outcome anymore. I literally laughed hard on the STL OT goal, for example. You can't make that stuff up. I've never felt this way before, and I lived through the Roy trade and subsequent 15 years of bleakness without the benefit of the 70s to back me up.
But now with this whole John Scott debacle MB is tarnishing the good name of the CH. I really thought it was over after the Goat left town and business seemed to get back to being professional. But then you add in Semin and Sekac and Kassian and a few other things and it's clear the whole organization is a mess. You know there's a campaign out there to flood Montreal's head office with letters, emails and faxes to force them to put Scott back in the NHL so he can play the all star game? Not because anyone really gives a shit about Scott or the ASG, but because they rightly see this whole thing as a slimey shitty thing to do, and they're blaming the NHL, Yotes and Habs. I don't blame them. MB can't even fire a coach or make a meaningful roster move. But I never imagined he'd tarnish the CH.
So maybe that's why I've lost all feeling. After so many decades of terribleness, I think I've realized now it's still not over. Worse, we've essentially become the maple leafs. I'm not being hyperbolic, everything that is happening with this team this year is exactly what we made fun of toronto for doing. Except it seems like the leafs finally decided to do something about it. How much longer in Montreal?
Ugh, I hate how right this sounds. Good rant O-man. I do think Scrivens getting the start last night was the kind of decision any coach would make, given it was a a back-to-back and the guy was a recent pick-up of the GM. Gotta give him a chance. That said, I don't think Scrivens is looking like much of an upgrade on Toker, except that he can play the puck better. That is such a glaring omission in Condon's otherwise outstanding game, it makes him a target that other teams are able to exploit like a Death Star. But how, oh how, is there any silver lining to taking on John Scott? How does it help the team or the franchise? I agree it tarnishes the CH ashamedly. In Todd's column today, he mentions this puts over 6,000 km between Mr. Scott and his wife - pregnant with twins! Extra shitty. What sort of signal does that send the others in the organization?
In more positive developments, I guess, I started Fargo tonight. A few episodes in and I'm not really sure why every is gushing over this show. I find it pretty boring and silly. There's some good parts, but overall I'm not really digging it. I'll finish the first season but since I've been told the 2nd isn't as good (yet this one is supposed to be 'gold') I think that'll be it. Loved the movie though. Maybe I'll just download that.
Greetings FHFer's! After 3 days of hard driving the Maritimer is now settled into his temporary residence just north of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. So, what's happened the last few day? Did they win any games? Is eMTy still the coach? Anything else going on?
Getting caught up ... it appears that it's a leaf-like 3 ring circus in Habland. WTF has MB been smoking lately? I think I'll just ignore the whole mess for the next month or so.
So his pregnant wife is due in a couple of weeks, with twins. And she is in Michigan (not Flint, hopefully), while he is about as distant as can be, in St. John's, NL, where we all know weather events can be pretty severe and limit travel in the middle of winter. Bring them all to Montreal, at least, MB. Thought this franchise was supposed to be the classy one.
Drouin is not the saviour. Ghetto is a Drouin style player that has actually proved he can succeed at the NHL level...and cost a hell of a lot less. IF MB is going to try something big to save MT's (and perhaps his own) hide, go get Wayne Simmonds. Whatever happened to those rumours? Now those got me a bit excited to keep watching. Or how has somebody not been able to pry something of value out of the Oil FFS?! They're now lead by the man that traded Seguin for what? Loui Erickson? There are enough teams in as bad shape or worse (if possible) than the Habs that a good big hockey deal should be able to happen. Does MB have the nads to make it happen? I'm not so sure anymore.
Drouin won't help them. Therrien will take at least a full season to "make him a better player."
I just want to say, well actually Jack Todd said it better --- Carey Price covered up a lot of warts by having a career year. MB thought he had more than he really did and so, has delayed the Habs rebuild from the 2012 season. I thought it was shameful and a disgrace that Tinordi was treated as he was and then thrown away for nothing. Bergevin has really disappointed me with that move and as moe mentioned, the Prust gamble. This Drouin thing smacks of desperation.
I totally agree about Tinordi, he was treated like trash by the coach and MB should have stepped in, I know a GM has to let his coach coach, but he wasn't doing that anyway.
As for Drouin, he is an unproven with 'potential' and I hope they don't overpay.
Wow! Not sure what happened there but the ref was way out of order. The coach coming over the boards and hammering the ref makes sense (in the context of this incident I mean - not in general)- probably his son...the world has gone mad!
Oh my! This news kinda puts the Habs woes into perspective. I discovered the Eagles as a teenager and I have always loved the lyrics of their songs. Even though these lyrics were not written by Glenn Frey, he sang the vocals and this is one of my favourite passages from one of my favourite Eagles songs...
Well I know it wasn't you who held me down Heaven knows it wasn't you who set me free So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains And we never even know we have the key
Thank you for the music and RIP - Glenn Frey - Already Gone!
RIP Glen, I thank the Eagles for my reglious respective
"The Last Resort"
She came from Providence, the one in Rhode Island Where the old world shadows hang heavy in the air She packed her hopes and dreams like a refugee Just as her father came across the sea
She heard about a place people were smilin' They spoke about the red man's way, and how they loved the land And they came from everywhere to the Great Divide Seeking a place to stand or a place to hide
Down in the crowded bars, out for a good time, Can't wait to tell you all, what it's like up there And they called it paradise I don't know why Somebody laid the mountains low while the town got high
Then the chilly winds blew down Across the desert through the canyons of the coast, to the Malibu Where the pretty people play, hungry for power to light their neon way and give them things to do
Some rich men came and raped the land, Nobody caught 'em Put up a bunch of ugly boxes, and Jesus, people bought 'em And they called it paradise The place to be They watched the hazy sun, sinking in the sea
You can leave it all behind and sail to Lahaina just like the missionaries did, so many years ago They even brought a neon sign: "Jesus is coming" Brought the white man's burden down Brought the white man's reign
Who will provide the grand design? What is yours and what is mine? 'Cause there is no more new frontier We have got to make it here
We satisfy our endless needs and justify our bloody deeds, in the name of destiny and the name of God
And you can see them there, On Sunday morning They stand up and sing about what it's like up there They call it paradise I don't know why You call someplace paradise, kiss it goodbye
Drouin seems to be a desperation hail mary play for MB to keep his (and by extension) MT's job. It's worrying because in that case he may play loose with the future of the franchise to make something happen now. Which is even more ridiculous when you consider the fact that Drouin is still too young and too untested to even be considered a game changer.
People, including MB, may say that big pieces don't get moved that much but there have been some big trades so far this year, and a few big names were available this past summer (i.e. Sharp). The problems were very obvious back then, as I and others have said Price may have masked them but anyone paying attention could see them clear as day.
The irony being the team is actually playing better this year.
In other news, Fargo still sucks. One more episode to 'watch' as I surf in other windows, do laundry or stare blankly at a wall. Hey, I'm on break.
Allow me to wade in on the Drouin issue...why would you give up a roster player for someone not able to crack the bolts lineup? if he was the next big thing he would be playing and setting the league on fire. Just because he's french does not warrant unloading a proper full time player...unless it's ddd in which case straight up make that deal...but I digress. if he was the answer to what ails the Habs - or any other team for that matter - he'd be gone already...but he isn't so move on...DGMB needs to make a proper trade involving proper players...oh yeah - and he needs a new coach...
Just fucking win!
ReplyDeleteHey, all. Long time, no see. I'm hoping for a miracle, but...start of the season aside, miracles have come few and far between for our Habs.

Watched 'John Wick' (Netflix Spain via Hola). Very violent but good 1.5hr.
ReplyDeleteI liked his car.
DeleteYup. Both were nice and seeing them made me think of CHarger.

ReplyDeleteBREAKING NEWS
Strong source confirms Habs making a huge push today putting a more significant package on table to acquire Drouin.
MB (thinking): Maybe if I throw in Therrien?
Delete... and pay his salary (just raise the price of beer).
DeleteI hope he doesn't do something stupid a la John Scott, Tinordi was never given a chance be the monkey behind the bench.
Delete*by* the monkey.
DeleteDrouin is not the saviour.
ReplyDeleteSimmonds not on the market, now that Phlyers are in the playoff hunt
DeleteDrouin won't help them. Therrien will take at least a full season to "make him a better player."
DeleteI just want to say, well actually Jack Todd said it better --- Carey Price covered up a lot of warts by having a career year.
DeleteAs for Drouin, he is an unproven with 'potential' and I hope they don't overpay.
Holy crap, a brawl during a juniour game and the zebra punches a player.

Wow! Not sure what happened there but the ref was way out of order. The coach coming over the boards and hammering the ref makes sense (in the context of this incident I mean - not in general)- probably his son...the world has gone mad!
DeleteISIS on ice
DeleteR.I.P. Glen Frye....take it easy.
ReplyDeleteUse to be a big eagles fan back in the day. Big influence on American rock. R.I.P.
DeleteAnother musical legend lost. Been a tough January so far rock stars, should be quite the jam going on in the Great Beyond. R.I.P.
DeleteOh my!
DeleteWell I know it wasn't you who held me down
Heaven knows it wasn't you who set me free
So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains
And we never even know we have the key
Thank you for the music and RIP - Glenn Frey - Already Gone!
RIP Glen, I thank the Eagles for my reglious respective
Delete"The Last Resort"
She came from Providence,
the one in Rhode Island
Where the old world shadows hang
heavy in the air
She packed her hopes and dreams
like a refugee
Just as her father came across the sea
She heard about a place people were smilin'
They spoke about the red man's way,
and how they loved the land
And they came from everywhere
to the Great Divide
Seeking a place to stand
or a place to hide
Down in the crowded bars,
out for a good time,
Can't wait to tell you all,
what it's like up there
And they called it paradise
I don't know why
Somebody laid the mountains low
while the town got high
Then the chilly winds blew down
Across the desert
through the canyons of the coast, to
the Malibu
Where the pretty people play,
hungry for power
to light their neon way
and give them things to do
Some rich men came and raped the land,
Nobody caught 'em
Put up a bunch of ugly boxes, and Jesus,
people bought 'em
And they called it paradise
The place to be
They watched the hazy sun, sinking in the sea
You can leave it all behind
and sail to Lahaina
just like the missionaries did, so many years ago
They even brought a neon sign: "Jesus is coming"
Brought the white man's burden down
Brought the white man's reign
Who will provide the grand design?
What is yours and what is mine?
'Cause there is no more new frontier
We have got to make it here
We satisfy our endless needs and
justify our bloody deeds,
in the name of destiny and the name
of God
And you can see them there,
On Sunday morning
They stand up and sing about
what it's like up there
They call it paradise
I don't know why
You call someplace paradise,
kiss it goodbye

DeleteDrouin seems to be a desperation hail mary play for MB to keep his (and by extension) MT's job. It's worrying because in that case he may play loose with the future of the franchise to make something happen now. Which is even more ridiculous when you consider the fact that Drouin is still too young and too untested to even be considered a game changer.
ReplyDeletePeople, including MB, may say that big pieces don't get moved that much but there have been some big trades so far this year, and a few big names were available this past summer (i.e.
St louis has already offered Shattenkirk as part of a package, that would mean Petry for us
DeleteI consider Petry a crown jewel. I hope MB does too. Drouin is not worth that with Carr available.
DeleteAllow me to wade in on the Drouin issue...why would you give up a roster player for someone not able to crack the bolts lineup? if he was the next big thing he would be playing and setting the league on fire.
