  1. Great SXS moeman (in keeping with the spirit of the Stan Lee quote, I can't bring myself to use SS for SexySunday - "This blog kills facsists" after all).

May I take the liberty to repost what I just hammered out at the end of the last thread?

    1. I have that same dilemma, so I will also go with SxS when it is the Sunday version.

  2. OKAY, FHFers, sorry I was offline for the party last night. Great game to finish this swing with! What a perfect shot by Druid for the win. I was listening to our TSN690 boys (Sergio Momesso is underappreciated) in the car when that was scored, as well as the SSR Texas Two-step (bow to your partner, do-see-do, did I just score?) marker to tie it up. As Steve points out, coming back in the third is something we haven't experienced much round these parts since the pre-Chocula days. Love it!

oleg, moey, glad you're commenting again and adding to the good mojo

the M, good call staying off the sauce (enjoy the Sauce, meanwhile!) and get better soon. This winter is gonna be a nasty I fear, especially for those of us living east of the COTU

Saint Pad, moeman, thanks as always for hosting with such aplomb. And may your pooch enjoy the remainder of their days in warm companionship, as moeman said.

K3X, keep the wankers in the UK from fucking up this Brexit crap, if that's even possible. May May get the the boot and some semblance of order return. The Good Friday agreement was one of the most incredibly positive peaceful political outcomes of my lifetime, and it would be a shame if it got scuppered by these wing-nuts.

PS: le Hab, Orangeman, HF#29 (and anyone else I missed), hope you're still out there checking in from time to time. The fun has returned, and it's a testament to this blog how great it is to hang out here - in BOTH good CH times and bad.

    2. Great re run and good point about TSN690 Robertson and Sergio blow anyone at HNIC so far out of the water its like a Jason Staham movie. (Meg for Example) I now commutute about 40 mins each way to work and like to listen to AM radio talk. The two Toronto stations one SN and TSN are both sick. First they barely talk about anything except themselves, second its all breathless leaf talk as in do you think Marnier will take $10 million or hold out for JT money. TSN690 is a Gem, a very rare thing in the sports corporate world.

    3. 690 fought for their lives, evading the corporate ax by a whisker (and losing some talent too). Knuckles has found his second coming as a broadcaster, and these guys provide honest to goodness commentary. There is also some boring uninspired filler from time to time, but less than most of their competition I reckon.

Outstanding and thanks for the Raquel nod, Mr. moe. Still not feeling good, this is going to take longer than I thought to get over.

I did enjoy that Saucy goal last night, especially the great break out pass by Dish. I'm still nervous when Turnover Machine is on the ice but he did make the right play a couple of times last night on a line change dumping the puck in instead of his usual stick-handling crap. Maybe he's finally learned.

It is nice for a change to see the usual powerhouse teams like Pitt and L.A. getting the SFU attention for being doormats. Maybe the Habs can fly under the radar this season. The Fried Man did mention last night that Dollar Store bergy is trying to trade a D instead of losing one on waivers like he did DL$R. Maybe those two teams are desperate enough to take one of Wrong Benn, Schlomo or Alzzzzsnore. One can only hope. To be honest, I don't know how Montreal are managing to win as much as they are with those three. Smoke and Mirrors perhaps?

    1. Agree on all counts.

    2. 'Tis true. But I think all D-men are feeling the stress of the speed in today's game. It is much as Brian Wilde says: you either learn to think the game fast (like a less speedy Vodkov) or you become super fast in reacting and skating to keep up without creating horrible turnovers and giving up A-grade scoring chances. That's super tough on your D-men like Y, JB, AlZZZner, and other "Stay-at-home" types; less so on Dish, PFK, Karlsson et al.

As for how the hell this batch of Habs is able to win some games, I think the gumption in their game is working in their favour more often than not. I can't imagine how this level of high energy hockey can be maintained for an 82-game sched, much less the two-months it takes to go all the way in the playoffs. Like ancient Roman colliseum warriors, put through all the human body can endure, one expects they may eventually get eaten by lions in the NHL crafted like this. Et tu, Bettman?

    3. to keep up for 80 games keep the troops fresh, should be 3 players rotating through most games.

    4. There is a distinct change in their game. Maybe Ducharme is coaching this but the 3 forwards are often lined up and skating fast when hitting the centre line, thus creating some creative offensive opportunities. There is little to no dump in hockey with this team. They are doing well but I miss Lb's speed on O and his speed on the PK.

  4. Happy SxS!

I think Schlemko's game has improved a great deal this year. Still a 5/6 guy though.
While J&B has his moments, I often find myself holding my breath when he's the guy trying to clear the puck out of the zone.
Alzner should not see another minute of gametime in a Habs sweater.

  5. RIP Randy Tieman, just a year or so after retiring (albeit, forced upon him by the CTV overlords), he has passed. He was one of the great sportscasters we all looked up to at Concordia Journalism.

    1. oleg, Eric Engels is a bright spot in an otherwise Toronto-centric organization. They are the head of the SFU snake, owned by Rogers and beholden to all things leaf/raptors/jays above all else. If you pay close attention, when one of their teams is doing well, you will have trouble finding a story about any other Canadian team anywhere near the front page. When that team starts to struggle, the number of stories decline and you're more likely to see other teams at the forefront. The leaf were off to that amazing Stanley-Cup Parade organizing start of a season and there were literally 5-6 different stories per day on the front page. They went in a brief decline and those disappeared, but their Raptors got their season off with a bang, so it was all Raptors. Fortunately (for them), as the ballers started to show cracks, their leaf go on a California sweep so all is well again!

All that said, you'll find regular articles from Mr. Engels and I enjoy most of them. If you're into reading the comments, you will see there are a lot of leafy fans dissing him every time, because how dare SN employ a 'fanboy' of the Habs. It's really hilarious, their ignorance and stupidity.

SO read Engels. Ignore the rest.

Agree, sn is the shittiest of all the leaf cesspools, Engels is worth a read though. Brian Wilde too at Global, but he is getting too sycophantic and projects all these Habs prospects to be Grade A players a year or two from now. That's a fool's game, nobody can predict that stuff, besides what's to stop Dollar Store from trading some of them in the immediate future in his twisted view of being a Cup contender now? I'm still keeping my expectations low, just to be on the safe side. I still enjoy the wins however, just 'cause the SFU fanboy hacks and the ignorant, stupid leafools hate it.

    3. The Gazette is still good. Hickey tops them, Todd is always a fun read, Cowan is bearable, Boone is winding down and the H i/o show is improving.

RDS has some positives but just as many negatives. Pierre Houde and Marc Denis stand out, Chantale is always on top of her game, Pierre LeBrun is a true journalist, Gagnon is full of himself and the rest are mostly forgettable, especially gaston therrien and mario tremblay.

tsn is a dumpster of leaf hagiography. They can't help themselves because they, in their own estimation, are forced to compete with the Riefenstahl-esque sn. Their web-based biased is hilarious. Worst of their lot is dredger.

tva is a séparatiste nest of wasps. Truly pathetic coverage that leans 99% francophone. The simple fact that they allow a crotched clown like 'bergy' to spew his inane garbage is enough to turn the channel. BTW, the channel is only on for the picture with tsn690 for audio. I'll listen to 690 once in a while.

There are others out there but they're to fucking stupid to mention.

Speaking of stupid, sn is by far the worst. Add the fact that all the pinheads from cbc that signed onto that shitshow. As St. Pad described, their web affections for their teams is puke-inducing. They cater to leafools by re-writing hockey history. The NHL sold them the rights not truly realizing that the 30 otherr teams would get little to no coverage. Their excuse is that they are in Hogtown. Fuck off. Engles is OK but I barely read his articles but sometimes see him re-tweeted by Wilde, McCagg and Todd.

In general, all toronto-based reporters/scribes/'journalists' tow the mlse line and because of recent successes, due primarily to tanking, are falling over each other with gleeful blue and white garbage. I get a kick out of the Cox's, Simmons', Arthur's, Shoalts' et al and how they repeat the daily leaf corporate message, sometimes in unison. They are truly a desperate nation of dolts.

    4. the Maritimer12:20 PM

I crossed those last four guys off my list a long time ago. Mostly leaf drivel plus the rags they write for put up pay walls. Fuck that. Funny that a leaf shill like Cox would get basically fired by sn.

Off to the family doc, still feeling poorly...

    5. ditto to all that. Engels is the only bearable thing about SN. Brian Wilde knows he needs to pump up the prospects to keep interest in the Habs high (or Global might not renew his contract) so it behooves him to see the glass half-full, although he strives for intelligent analysis, and has a proven rep as such. Todd is sometimes quick to judge, Cowan not so bright, Hickey cautious to a fault but genuine all the way. Jessica Rusnak is competent and bubbly, but seems deeply devoted to repeating the obvious over coming up with any original insight.
