I could see the Jackets taking 3 points this weekend, lose to the broons and take 2 on the final weekend.

DeleteSaying that, I think one needs to get educated, with reggae to start, add some funk vibes (see cats like Flea), figure out your case of feels and work it. I've seen and enjoyed many a great reggae/beat/ska event/party. Keep it simple, keep it fast and just let musicians have fun. This is also why I love CAKE.
FWIW, rockabilly delivers a similar effect. Short, fun, simple beats that make you move.
DeleteThere's some great early original Ska, aka beat music. I listened to it often to get my moejo on. I've have been a reggae/ska/beat/punk/newave fan since forever. Not sure it is said anywhere but The English Beat>General Public>wherever the boys ended up are what, to me defines modern ska, if there is such a ting mon. Blending in funky off-'beat' horns into a funked out bass line with fun lyrics with crazy reggae roots, well, dere ya go mon.

Madness and The Specials + the Minnesota hardcore scene... but I also had friends in local bands like tge Nils (RIP Alex) Asexuals, Tge Stznd GT, Atomic Folk, Alternative Inuit, Deja Voodoo, Roebuddy, Me Mom & Morgentaler, Rise, Crypt Kickers, Sons of the Desert... Les Colocs, Villain Pinguoin, ... all from the sensibility of Strummer's attitude that if you have something to say, form a band or write a play or wahatever. Just grab it by the throat and put it out there. But be respectful of everyone else and don't think just have an informed opinion you also have all the answers. Ska/punk is the root for me. --SiM
