When 29 met 29

Hey look who still has posting privileges around here!

So last week during one of my many lawyer thingies, I finally met my number-sake. I figured I would post the pic here here for posterity, as well as give moe and Saint Pad some quality bye week content.

29 was delightful and thoughtful. While the event was ostensibly about concussions, all anyone wanted to talk about was hockey blogging. The conversation we had, as depicted in the pic below, went something like this (conversation edited for length and clarity):

29: Fuck Gary Bettman. He's done nothing about the concussion issues in the NHL. Oh hai 29! This guy... [/motions with thumb] is one of the best writers I know. It's a shame he quit hockey blogging.

29: Well thank you 29, that's very kind of you to say. Are there any particular blog posts of mine you really liked?

29: Well all the Sexy Fridays of course.

29: You know Sexy Friday really didn't have any writing, right?

29: [/pulls goalie stick out of suit jacket inside pocket, puts it under chin and leans on it, and smiles wryly]

Nice pics Mssr. 29. You look very serious in that 2nd picture. I still prefer 29 over 33, I am the quiet, introspective type myself but I don't talk as much as 29. Would he be interested in taking over from Mr. Molson as president of Les Canadiens? There is a slight connection...

    Hi Ken !

  3. Please I beg you, no Nostradamus refs. However I did predict this "http://thinkingaboot.blogspot.com/2014/01/when-starbuck-met-29.html">meeting in 2014. Maybe it was more sweaty.

Congrats to Larry Walker, the second Canadian player elected to the baseball Hall of Fame!!

A thousand curses on, in no particular order: Bud Selig, Jerry Reinsdorf, Claude Brochu, Jeffrey Loria and David Samson. Felipe Alou and his Expos teams plus we die hard fans deserved better than those carpet bagging douche bags.

    1. Indeed so happy to see this happen, even if its in a Rockies uni.

Ha, which writer always had a list of heroes and zeroes at the end of his column and Loria was a perennial loser every column?

    2. Jack Todd used that for a spell. It was mostly filler and gave him a ton of grief. I don't miss it. --SiM

  6. 29: pull my finger.
    29: that's not a finger, it's a thumb.
    29 : a thumb is a finger.
    29 pulls thumb finger.

I'm getting there myself so can confirm that old man farts are the worst. A couple of brothers curl in our league, approaching 70 i'd say nearly killed me playing on the adjacent sheet tonight.

  10. Bye week, you got nothing to thinkaboot. Lucky for you I am a stable genius like Trump. So BBB is in IMHO going to do nothing. He thinks next year he can make the playoffs with growth. Maybe he is correct.
What is certain that he would have to add VIagra to the Mexicants shot to make it past the first round.
Logicly we got to get smaller before we can get bigger. I would as a stable genius trade Dish, TAAAATAR,K19 ASAP. If we got a incredible offer for BBQ yes make its so.

Columbus is currently in a wild card spot 10 points up on the Habs. They lost a massive amount of talent over the summer, Panarin, Bobrovsky plus others I can't remember. So, why is that? Maybe their coach is smart? Montreal has had three (3) coaches in a row that are crap. Jacques Martin, the Baron of Boredom, Arrogant Fuckface and now Jabba the Hutt, ex of the bruins. The last coach I thought was any good was Carbo. It ain't rocket science. Get a decent coach Molson ffs and stand your ground against the language cops. Gerard Gallant is available.

    1. Also I love TFS, but all of their goalies that you've never heard of are playing outstanding hockey and mostly consistently so.

  12. I'm sure we all know The Godfather and the iconic horse's head scene.
What do you suppose it means if you find a pigeon head on the roof of your vehicle? What kind of message is that sending, and by whom? I go home for lunch most days and today when I arrived home, I noticed this on my vehicle. Had some highway driving to do after lunch before heading back to the office so figured it would blow away. Nope. Guess she's frozen on there pretty good, in the parking lot now. Sun's shining down so maybe it'll melt, or perhaps a seagull or crow (which I suspect as the actual culprit) will grab a snack.

Either way, should the picture make the next thread?

    OMG Yes!

    2. Latest theory is exploding pigeon on exposed power line.

Flicked it with a really good wrist shot using a tree branch right into the green bin. Could be a new all star challenge.

    3. Are you now or have you ever been in the employ of Vladimer Putin? That is my only question about this incident, and I think everyone will agree the only conclusion is logical.

  16. What about a tidal wave of talent trade. Package TaaaTAAAR, Dish and T17, through in Kissin, Wheelie, and Pecker. This package can turn a contender into a CHampion. We only want one player back, a young stud defenceman like the one we traded to Tampa or the one Colorado picked in the first round last year.

    Make is so.

  18. We must tear down this team to save it. Cull the herd, burn the vets. Look at that Dish in the Widow, and what that on the plate a little TaTaaar Tuna Sause on sale?

Whatever happened to Jewel, I cant find him even on the internet, its like Agrentina in the 70's he has been disappeared.

Not to make light of the Bryant tragedy, but it's been a warm rainy day at the end of January and the days are getting a wee bit longer daily. The PGA tour is in full swing at Torrey Pines and I'm enjoying watching these guys hit the ball. Spring and warm, sunny days aren't that far away.

  24. I always feel a little weird about feeling bad about the death of a celebrity. I didn't know them. It has no i pact on how I live my life. What about the other 150,000 people that died today? Do they not deserve as much sympathy? Alas such is the way of the world these days, monumentally multiplied with the ever growing normality of social media.

RIP Kobe, Gigi and all other deserving souls who left us today. Tomorrow life goes on for those that remain.

As Saint Paddy said, life goes on for the rest of us. That being said, what does the next few weeks hold for marc bergevin and his not-so-good team? The Habs seem content to sell us past glories and hope for the future. What I wouldn't give for a little present day success.

I wonder how much the Capitals will be scouting t17 tonight? I suspect bergevin will be gathering up more of that "hope" in the next while.
