Apparently it's bargain bin bergy's anniversary today, 8 years ago Geoff molson hired him to be GM of the Habs. He is now in Year 9 of his 15 year plan to turn the Habs into Harold Ballard's leaf. Montreal has only made the playoffs twice during his tenure, I'd say he's doing a great job so far!
He spent the first 4 years looking in the mirror and pumping up. He spent the next two years living in a cave. The last two years, he has looked okay. We still got the battle of two poles going on. Our Studs are over 30 our kids have not yet arrived. The window is getting close to breaking. Something has to give.
The ol' SSS Super Sexy Sunday. Love it. Beautiful day here yesterday, but man I was battling some non-Covid related attack on my body that when I asked the google machine sounds a lot like potentially gall stones. Mind you it could be anything. When one cannot find a comfortable position sitting, standing or laying down, mixed in with occasional nausea, the options are limited. Guess I need to learn to levitate. Hope that doesn't happen again before this crisis is over because I ain't going to emergency unless I hear the reaper knockin' on my back door.
Better today though. Knocks on wood.
Stay safe and stay home if you can, despite the gradual lifting of restrictions.
I fucking totally covid lost it today when I heard BUTTMAN has decided to CHange the lottery in midstream, against all that has ever been ever. We have no CHANCE at the first overall this year.NOPE they agre going back to the best tank wins the best pick lottery. ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS. I did the only thing I could short of going postal. I gathered up my bucket full of pucks and my trusty wooden sherwood. Its a sure wood, better than Viagra is all test results.
I drove around looking for a parking lot where I could shoot pucks at cars. With my legendary shot I figure four maybe five shots the cars totaled. Sure I would get arrested after totaling maybe 20 cars, but BUTTMAN would have to appear in court or I would walk for justified caricidde.
The problem was and it stopped me from doing something crazy, is there are no cars in parking lots they are empty, EMPTEY. You cant even shoot a puck in anger any more.
To top it off that KHL player that made me slivia, the leaf signed him today. Serrentiy NOW! Replace the no excuses sign in the dressing room with that.

The federal Conservative Party is pretty much dead. However, Blaine Higg's PC's here in New Brunswick is the best government we've had in 12 years. Before that we had three duds in a row, 2 Liberal and 1 PC.
Remember when Frank McKenna won all the ridings? He opened the opposition benches to a smattering of Tories anyway just to show he was a good sport. --SiM
I am still pissed off about the lottery CHange, and the fact the Leaf got our left handed D man prospect. I mean wtf, he is like the 6th lefty on the leafs and would have lepped to Number one on our depth chart.
Has there ever been a European free agent signing that has had an actual impact on a team? I'm talking players that haven't played in the NHL, not guys like Radulov and Kovy2.0. I'm talking Jiri Sekac, Fabian Brunstrom (he was gonna be gold baby!), others I can't think of right now.

Have I mentioned Costco? I've been twice since this outbreak and I can't give enough thumbs up. Just caught the end of the 93 final. Kirk Muller's post game interview with McLame, "The way the league is now it's so close, we don't know if we'll ever get back..." Truer words have sadly never been spoken.
Kirk Muller and 1993. So long ago. I remember somehow getting standing tix to see Game One against the Isles in the third round, and enjoying every second of that Forum experience as my Habs won with John LeClair leading the way, scoring twice. (What a dumb move not keeping him. Was it Houle who traded him and then watched him score 50+ for three straight seasons with the Flyers? Ah well...
I was never a basketball fan (not sure why - always enjoyed playing a little 2 on 2 when I was a kid), but I have been watching the series on the Bulls on Netflix, and it dawned on me their third straight championship was in the spring of '93, which might explain why I was especially pre-occupied with hockey at the time. Jordan highlights are mind-blowing though.
Got my first (almost) round in today. 15 holes, couldn't get a tee time until 5:00pm so we ran out of daylight. They are only allowing three foursomes per hour, twenty minutes between tee times. It's not ideal but at least it's something. I was on pace for 89/90, not bad for the 1st round of the year.
Nice! And I have always hated golf. But any chance to get out of the house... My little forays around the blocks of the Mile End with my little girl are getting a little same-old same-old. New Brunswick finally has something on us Quebecers.
Anyone who can read french must MUST read Patrick Lagace's column in today's LaPresse.ca
It's bang-on. Nothing but fuckwad bloated bureaucracy in our healthcare system here. I am almost 51 and have been on a list for a family doctor for over FOUR YEARS! We suck royally in this department, and now it's costing lives they cannot ignore.
Not 12 hours after her confirmed second consecutive negative testing result, with her breathing still not 100%, they pushed her to work last night and tonight. So, not wanting to lose her job, she complied. Montreal General Hospital 18th floor is full COVID patients (non-ICU). So now more like an Internal Medicine floor than its usual Surgical function.
As I have stated before, Mrs. SiM has worked previously in Internal Medicine (read: patients with organ failure issues, as likely to go on to palliative care as to ever go home), and dealing with C difficile, so this is not such a stretch for her. She has had to step in and explain the facts of life and death to bewildered family members on many an occasion, and knows well the distinct sound of the human body's final breath.
But she spent all day yesterday torturing herself with reading every story she could find of healthcare workers returning to work and getting sick all over again, and doubling down.
Well, thankfully, she arrived at work to find ample PPE and most of her patients transferrees from the CHSLDs (what we used to call old folks' homes). They were generally asleep and more in need of menial stuff than clinical care. So not too stressful, in the end. And so grateful for the extra pay being sent her way (which makes up a little for the feeling of being thrown to the wolves, I suppose).
Fingers washed and crossed. The end is still far off. No CFL (FUCK!) this year.
I miss hockey. I even miss sucky overly-injured Habs losing dismally.
I'd take it.
In a heartbeat.
GYFHACG (HAC = Heroically Awesome Canadians - as opposed to Canadiens)
Hey SiM! Glad to see you back and posting. It sure was nice to get out and play yesterday as you said. My wife and I have been walking different routes around our neighbourhood and it does get a little boring at times. No matter we have to make the best of it. Actually, the last 6 weeks have been training for me for walking the golf course (about 10k), but I'm still feeling it this morning.
I'm glad to hear Mrs. SiM is recovering and bless her for being such a caring person.
I think we are going to have an announcement today regarding more opening up here in NB. Retail for sure and hopefully a partial reopening of restaurants and coffee shops. Fingers crossed.
I hear one of trump's flunkies has covid, he may find out very soon what it's all about. And that statue that keeps following him around.
Finally, it wasn't the beleaguered Reggie Houle that traded John Leclair and Eric Desjardins, two huge players in the '93 win for Dr. Recchi and a bunch of nobodies. That was none other than the Senator, Serge Savard. Bobby Clarke fleeced him big time in that deal.
Ditto SIM If I where King nurses would get 2/3 doctors pay. Look we live in a world where shit happens, and those that have to clean up should be very highly paid.
I dont think its a good pick. I think its a cup winner, plan the parade. This guy is (Y) with offensive talent. He will win a Norris, take that to the bank. How can I be so confident you ask. On ETOP they have a audio podscast. I listened the first time and I could not believe it. I listened again, and they said exactly the same thing, its true.
Netflicks I have seen everything twice advisory.
Dammit watch The last kingdom I watched TAKERS last night, it was very black but still presented a criminal life in a positive way. I mean under the rule of the man we are all criminals at heart. You want to get ahead your a criminal, you get ahead you pay tribute and get a title.
I noticed that mclame comment too moe. Surprise surprise, ol' crotch wasn't at the top of Muller's mind as he said something along the lines of "ahh yeah my family is here or watching"...something to that effect.
I don't think young Romanov will be as offensively gifted as Markov or physically dominant as (Y), but I expect a combination of lesser offence and lesser aggression, leading to a great all around dman with a likely 2nd pairing situation, potentially 1st pairing as he grows, if he is properly coached.
Great news by SiM btw and nice work the M. I had a bigger post about all that stuff earlier that my 'at home work' connection decided to quit on before I hit enter. Trust me it was good stuff.
I've been working my way up to 5K walks. Even with my prescription orthotics, my damned flat feet kill me after that. I can walk 9 holes, 18 is rough. To be fair most of my golfing is more social and golf cart related so we can have a cooler full of goodies.
The most interesting thing aside from COVID I have learned about, which is going to have the biggest impact upon my very uninteresting stable life is RGB. RGB will be on your toaster and refrigerator before long, and appliance makers have not event thoughtaboot it yet.
I bought new stuff for my computer and it was all RGB. I never considered it important, but now I am like a Tony Robbins of RGB. You not making enough money, you unhappy with your life, get RGB, and send ten dollars to steve.
As you may have heard or read, we here in New Brunswick have moved into Phase 2 of our recovery plan due to our crushing of the coronavirus curve. Here is a link to an article talking about the politician who saved our asses in this little province, the Hon. Dominic Cardy, Minister for Education and Early Child Development. I met him during the 2014 provincial campaign when he was running in my riding at the time in East Saint John for the NDP. I actually had tea with him in my home and I point blank asked him how he could make our province better. At the time thousands of NBers were heading to the oilpatch and it was looking pretty dismal for the young people here. He told me straight up the only way out was through education. No bullshit from him at all and I could tell he was a pretty smart guy. No wonder he ended up with the Cabinet position he did. Anyway, I thanked him for his time and voted for him. He didn't win but I knew he wasn't finished in politics. Good on him for his recognition on the national stage. BTW, I remember a doctor coming back from spring break who wrote a letter to the local paper blasting Mr. Cardy for being paranoid and closing down the schools. She is eating those words now.
Great story, the M. It's always a treat to find a truly good pol who is smart, and working for the community first. I read the CBC article about Cardy earlier. Good for him, and good for Preimier Higgs.
I am a little concerned about the mediocre respect being shown the Tsar. A couple of small moves that might solve the problem. First annouce we will be playing the Russian National Anthem in full before every home game. Second, maybe its time for a new Captian, we could do worse than the Tsar.
Hey...I have been mostly absent from these awesome pages for a bit now...coping with covid and a house full of kids, mixed messages about what to do and not do and generally trying to survive in the country with the second highest death count after the 'mericans...but whaddyagonnado...#Stayalert apparently replaces #stayhome but with little direction. I am not very optimistic about what comes next other than the fact that I am looking after me. I was furloughed for a month but now back and WFH - which helps. But I gotta tell you - it all feels very weird. And I can't even begin to think about sports of any kind at this point. I see no possible way to meaningfully bring back any team games without an audience. Playoffs without a crowd? Fuck off! The players would hate it. And in the big scheme of life - why not just wait a bit longer and do it properly. 2020 is a write off, start again next year. how many NHLers who got sick in late Jan/early Feb actually now know they had a strain of Covid? How many gave it to their girlfriend or their wife? Or their parents? No one is talking but I find it almost impossible to believe that wasn't the case.
Lastly - RIP Little Richard. You'll be missed.
Everyone stay safe, stay alert, don't travel to the UK (if you know what's good for you!) and above all, love the one you're with!
Good to hear from you, K3X. I follow Ms. Sturgeon on twitter and she is such a lovely, smart contrast to the Conservatives and Boris, I just cannot fathom what UK life must be like now (but I'll wager it's a far cry from Bob the Builder and Thomas the Tank Engine).
Hey, I've got a six year-old at home (my full-time compatriot-in-arms, in fact - self-isolation, you know). Both she and I are WFH while Mrs. SiM works in the hospital.
No, I don't see major-league sports returning anytime soon, but when they do...
And I wish you all the best. Get your sleep, do not over-indulge on booze, get as fit as possible. Take it from me, this COVID-19 is best not wrangled with, if it can be avoided. I feel damn lucky (and not for the first, second, or twenty-eighth time in my life, mind).
I really feel like this exercise is destined to teach us humans a couple things about the power of looking after one another over greed and one-upmanship generally.
It's worth remembering 1649, The World Turned Upside Down: https://www.youtube.com
I think we will do OK up here in the Great White North. South of the 49th parallel, they are in trouble as they are being lead by a kook. Some of the states and the non-maga crowd are trying to do the right thing but they are under a lot of pressure. I think we are witnessing the demise of America as a world power. They are slowly burning as trump fiddles...
I'll bet NBA Commish Adam Silver pulls the plug first with the NHL right behind same as the shutdown. MLB is done because the greedy players and their greedier agents will concede nothing. Nothing would make me happier than to see that league fail and dissolve. The NFL might be able to play because they don't have to worry about a border. Big league sports is fucked they just don't realize it yet. Some of the European soccer leagues want to open but any outbreak will end that in a hurry. The only things that can restart safely are PGA golf and possibly auto racing. Welcome to the New World.
Mrs. SiM reports that her night shift in the Montreal General Hospital COVID-19 ward started with a death and a particularly long "rounds."
Her patient was one of now over 5K Canadians this fucker has taken out now.
Anyway, I know many of my songs were written mysteriously as balms to my future self. Today, this is my spiritual cleanse, informed by my guardian angels (makes as much sense as anything else I figger).

At the Metro entrance stood a tall, trim man Tailored dark suit and an outstretched hand Handing out papers saying: “Jesus Loves You” His smile shone brighter than his polished shoes I took a long, hard look in his eye Looking for the man inside I couldn’t find the man beyond the sheen Like a person replaced with a dogma machine
Chorus: I guess I needed somebody to remind me I’m one of the fortunate ones And I guess that lately I’ve been fussing and I’ve been sulking too much And I’ve got to remind myself No matter how much the world seems unjust To keep my feet planted on the Metro platform
We only see each other every once in a while Every day without you is another trial I don’t believe in organised religion But every time I hear your voice I get this vision I think about moments we shared together I’m hoping more will come if I don’t surrender to doubt Help me out, help me out
Am I on the mend again? Don’t need to feel this pain I’ve got you coursing through my veins Stay the course now; don’t leave me feeling drained
Hey, something hockey happened with the Habs. Signed 5'10" forward Cameron Hillis to a entry level contract. About a point/game player in the OHL with Guelph. And if he makes it to the bigs is he simply CH? Or do we have a new CHill? However things go, I wish the kid the best and welcome to the family.
Based on today's weather, I'm going to audition to go on Dragon's Den with my new invention the Mow 'n Blow. You can mow your grass and blow your snow all at once, with the all new Mastercraft Mow 'n Blow! Picture Canadian Tire guy saying that. It fits.
I looked out the window this morning and saw the snow on the grass and figured my tee time would be pushed back but nope, still a go for 3pm. Hey Winter Fuck Off OK!!! We've had enough!
Watched Bombshell and now watching The Loudest Voice, what a POS Roger Ailes was. Fox News what a bunch of whack jobs.
CBS All Access' Star Trek universe has officially expanded, with the streaming service announcing a new series that viewers of Discovery have been asking for since the second season. CBS All Access has given a full series order for Star Trek: New Worlds, based on the years that Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) was in charge of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The series will also welcome back Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. Set a decade before Captain Kirk took control of the bridge, the new series will follow our trio as the U.S.S. Enterprise explores new worlds across the galaxy.
We can never have enough Rebecca Romnijn (especially as Mystique in the early X-Men movies).
Sounds like they have a winner. One of my favourite Trek movies was the 1996 First Contact. Filling in the blanks between now and the first series is ripe for more bold exploration.
This is excellent news! And hey Anson Mount ain't too hard to look at either. Seriously, he was great in Hell on Wheels and a show I highly recommend if any of you haven't seen it.
Rebecca Romnijn if you have not seen her in the Librarian, you have never had a library fantasy. She is not the most beautiful, but what comes off the screen makes me feel if she ever had a flat tire and I came along we would live very very happily ever after.
Ray Bradbury said he wrote not to predict the future but to prevent it. I got to say as the only officially declared unelected shadow minster of science fiction, we are not moving the needle far from dystopia in 6 months. The regions of Canada that have made it, should seal the borders.
The rest of us are living in tit soup. That is where you cant resist the nipple, no matter how hot the water.
Nice, warm, sunny day over here.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear Mrs.
You and your heroic partner and family take care!
Ditto SIM If I where King nurses would get 2/3 doctors pay. Look we live in a world where shit happens, and those that have to clean up should be very highly paid.
DeleteAlexander Romanov agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the CH, coming to Mtl as soon as the border is opened.

I think this kid is going to be a really good pick.
DeleteI dont think its a good pick.
DeleteNetflicks I have seen everything twice advisory.
Dammit watch The last kingdom
I watched TAKERS last night, it was very black but still presented a criminal life in a positive way. I mean under the rule of the man we are all criminals at heart. You want to get ahead your a criminal, you get ahead you pay tribute and get a title.
Yep, younger sister has always been at the top of her game.
ReplyDeleteNice updates/comments there SiM. The death in Montreal is beyond heartbreaking.
theM., how's the knee ?
As for me, busier than expected with work. Lots of reports, which I hate and haven't had to do for decades.
Take care everyone.
I also re-watched the 1993 SCF game.
ReplyDeleteJust as exciting, even knowing the outcome.
The Old Forum was incredible. I saw about a dozen games there but none as crazy as that last one.
... and of course you had mclame suggest to Muller who was watching him from Kingston.
POS mclame never took crotch's dick out of his mouth his entire career.
I noticed that mclame comment too moe. Surprise surprise, ol' crotch wasn't at the top of Muller's mind as he said something along the lines of "ahh yeah my family is here or watching"...something to that effect.
DeleteI don't think young Romanov will be as offensively gifted as Markov or physically dominant as (Y), but I expect a combination of lesser offence and lesser aggression, leading to a great all around dman with a likely 2nd pairing situation, potentially 1st pairing as he grows, if he is properly coached.
ReplyDeleteGreat news by SiM btw and nice work the M. I had a bigger post about all that stuff earlier that my 'at home work' connection decided to quit on before I hit enter. Trust me it was good stuff.
ReplyDeleteI've been working my way up to 5K walks. Even with my prescription orthotics, my damned flat feet kill me after that. I can walk 9 holes, 18 is rough. To be fair most of my golfing is more social and golf cart related so we can have a cooler full of goodies.

ReplyDeleteI bought new stuff for my computer and it was all RGB. I never considered it important, but now I am like a Tony Robbins of RGB. You not making enough money, you unhappy with your life, get RGB, and send ten dollars to steve.

DeleteAs you may have heard or read, we here in New Brunswick have moved into Phase 2 of our recovery plan due to our crushing of the coronavirus curve.

Deletegood harware combined with good software is the ticket to the future
DeleteGreat story, the M. It's always a treat to find a truly good pol who is smart, and working for the community first. I read the CBC article about Cardy earlier. Good for him, and good for Preimier Higgs.
ReplyDeleteI am a little concerned about the mediocre respect being shown the Tsar. A couple of small moves that might solve the problem. First annouce we will be playing the Russian National Anthem in full before every home game. Second, maybe its time for a new Captian, we could do worse than the Tsar.
ReplyDeleteRomanov Coors has a nice ring to it as well.
DeleteHappy Mother's Day to all the FHFMoms and Moms of FHFers.
ReplyDeleteRest In Peace Jerry Stiller.
ReplyDeleteA great comedian who had me rolling with laughter. Loved his timing and genuine creativity.
ReplyDeleteLastly - RIP Little Richard. You'll be missed.
Everyone stay safe, stay alert, don't travel to the UK (if you know what's good for you!) and above all, love the one you're with!
Some governments just don't get it.

the new normal, as I see it the best case in two years we get a vaccine and we go back to normal, until the next strain hits.
DeleteWe are living in isolation until the population of humans is back to 6 billion, or we have 12 billion living sustainably.
DeleteHey, I've got a six year-old at home (my full-time compatriot-in-arms, in fact - self-isolation, you know).

ReplyDeleteI think we will do OK up here in the Great White North. South of the 49th parallel, they are in trouble as they are being lead by a kook. Some of the states and the non-maga crowd are trying to do the right thing but they are under a lot of pressure. I think we are witnessing the demise of America as a world power. They are slowly burning as trump fiddles...
DeleteI'll bet NBA Commish Adam Silver pulls the plug first with the NHL right behind same as the shutdown.

I didn't so much write it as unearth it from somewhere.
Drained
At the Metro entrance stood a tall, trim man
Tailored dark suit and an outstretched hand
Handing out papers saying: “Jesus Loves You”
His smile shone brighter than his polished shoes
I took a long, hard look in his eye
Looking for the man inside
I couldn’t find the man beyond the sheen
Like a person replaced with a dogma machine
Chorus:
I guess I needed somebody to remind me
I’m one of the fortunate ones
And I guess that lately I’ve been fussing and
I’ve been sulking too much
And I’ve got to remind myself
No matter how much the world seems unjust
To keep my feet planted on the Metro platform
We only see each other every once in a while
Every day without you is another trial
I don’t believe in organised religion
But every time I hear your voice I get this vision
I think about moments we shared together
I’m hoping more will come if I don’t surrender to doubt
Help me out, help me out
Am I on the mend again?
Don’t need to feel this pain
I’ve got you coursing through my veins
Stay the course now; don’t leave me feeling drained
Great tune SiM. I couldn't really hear the vocals on the audio, but love the lyrics. Eerily fitting. The final line fits like a glove.

DeleteHey, something hockey happened with the Habs. Signed 5'10" forward Cameron Hillis to a entry level contract. About a point/game player in the OHL with Guelph. And if he makes it to the bigs is he simply CH? Or do we have a new CHill? However things go, I wish the kid the best and welcome to the family.

BIG NEWS!!!
ReplyDeleteCBS All Access' Star Trek universe has officially expanded, with the streaming service announcing a new series that viewers of Discovery have been asking for since the second season.
DeleteThis is excellent news!
DeleteAnd hey Anson Mount ain't too hard to look at either. Seriously, he was great in Hell on Wheels and a show I highly recommend if any of you haven't seen it.
Rebecca Romnijn if you have not seen her in the Librarian, you have never had a library fantasy.

Ray Bradbury said he wrote not to predict the future but to prevent it. I got to say as the only officially declared unelected shadow minster of science fiction, we are not moving the needle far from dystopia in 6 months. The regions of Canada that have made it, should seal the borders.
