lehab9:15 PM
With all due respect to Eddie Shack's family,
and the Tragically Hip...

Clear the track, ‘cause Eddie Shack
Died, this summer
But he had one helluva trip
The last goal he ever scored
Didn’t win the Laffs the cup
And They’ll never win another
Since it’s now been 53 years
And COTU can’t recover
I stole this from the Tragically Hip
A band like no other

It’s the 19 Covid Cup
I worked it in
I worked it in to look like that
It’s the 19 Covid Cup
It’s the 19 Covid Cup
And I worked it in (worked it in)
I worked it in
And I hope we don’t get sick from that
And I hope we don’t get sick from that

Shack was one of the few leaf I could enjoy, saw him a few times in the late 70s, in Galt, ON.

    Dropped another hockey-related Hip tune in the ♩ ♪ ♫ ♬ o' da day .

  2. I think 'Fireworks' is very underrated.

    Great lyrics, rockin' tune.

    Best verse is;

Next to your comrades in the national fitness program
Caught in some eternal flexed arm hang
Droppin' to the mat in a fit of laughter
Showed no patience, tolerance or restraint

Remember doing the 'flexed arm hang' in high school.

  4. So, still WFH but dropped the redeployment work in early July, only to be pulled back in to help out. I visit the campus once a week for a few hours. Otherwise took extra time off to do a 3 day week (T-W-T) until September.

Hope everyone is doing OK !

First, I should have offered condolences to the family of Eddie Shack, RIP. That being said, I did enjoy watching John Ferguson beat the snot out Eddie once or twice.

I'm not sure how to approach this COVID Cup tournament, I'd like the Habs to win I guess but I'll gladly take a chance at getting Laffy as a consolation prize. Not sure I can stomach listening to mclame and his gang of leafools blowing narcos and pj boy. If Montreal is eliminated early I will likely boycott the rest of it.

  8. Nice job all around. Haven't been paying attention much...RIP Eddie Shack indeed.
I haven't played hockey in a ling time. After high school in 1987 I moved to Tronna for 6 months, had lots of cousins there. Worked at A1 Rent a Tool. It was Toronto, so no shortage of tools. Anyway we rented ice one night so I bought myself some used Microns and a Koho stick. Last time I skated was about 15 years ago on a local pond with my kids. One of the moulded plastic skates just shattered (I thought I had gone through the ice for sure). I still have the stick. I also have a signed Bobby Hull stick that I won on a local morning show called Switchback that aired on Sunday mornings in the Maritimes.

    ReplyDelete
  9. The Hull stick is circa 1983 or so.

Regarding the flexed arm hang, I remember it well. It was grade 8. I had received the 'Award of Excellence' in all of the other events, but was 2 seconds short on the flexed arm hang so I only got gold. The gym teacher tells me I can redo it because when we're back for grade 9 in the fall all the AoE students will compete in the Superman/woman (probably said girl actually) contest for top athlete overall. I said, nah I'm good with gold thanks. I just still remember the puzzled look on his face like how could I not want to try to prove I'm the best. And I've been perfectly happy with my mediocrity ever since 😀

  10. Well I guess it's time to get this party started huh? Nice work leHab! RiP Mr. Shack, who was a Leaf when they still had class.

Just saw the Gentlemen and it was fantastic. I also found Kadillak's experience battling COVID-19 tracked rather closely with my own. Glad he's on the mend. Hope he doesn't suffer any hard-to-shake lingering after-shocks. It's kind of like an acid flashback, I suppose, the COVID flashback. Or maybe I am just getting old.

I see the NHL is reporting a big fat zero on the positive tests for the whole smattering of souls on or supporting the 24 teams in the bubble. Would that it continues to be so. Can't say I'm terribly surprised st MLB making a clusterfuck of their stab at like, playing.

  11. Good points about MLB fucking it up by sending their players to the Covid capital of the world to start things off. I will give the NHL credit for doing things as right as they can (aside from picking Toronto, the city with the most Covid cases...but it's the biggest city too so some slack). It's still a fucked up idea to try to play team sports among this virus. But the NHL bubbles seem to be the best solution to an impossible situation, so if they continue to play I hope no players or personnel are impacted too negatively from all this. Even leaf players.

Honestly, the Habs are just not a very good team. Period. They are a small, not very skilled collection of average joes on skates. Sure, Suzuki and Kotkaniemi have potential but that's about it. As for the D, people can brag up Shea Weber all they want but he can't do it by himself. The rest of them, blech. Price, he is now average at best. Also, julien has long passed his best before date. The best thing that can happen to the Montreal Canadiens is a quick mercy killing by Crosby and company and then hope and pray that their 12.5% lottery odds pay off. Not trying to be too negative but my eyes tell me a different story than what all the fanboy websites try to portray including a so-called 'professional' hockey writer like Eric Engels who is no better than all the leaf fanboys who work for leafnet and torontosportsnetwork.
