Wow! That quite the 6 pack Carey Price is sporting. I remember when he was a 20 year old rookie living alone in Montreal (WTF was Gainey thinking anyway?), he was eating chocolate bars in the middle of the night, smoking, drinking and weighing close to 240 lbs. Madame Price rescued his ass methinks getting him straightened out. Well done!
I fully admit I have been a big time critic of Marc Bergevin. I questioned many of his moves, particularly the PFK trade, and of course all his dumpster diving made me question his competence as a an NHL GM. However, the Pacioretty trade and Trevor Timmins' astute drafting the last couple of years seems to bode well for the future. If Bergevin can pull off a big trade or UFA signing then I can look past all the past crap he inflicted on the Montreal franchise. With the COVID-19 pandemic no one knows what the future will bring so there will be lots of speculating and waiting.
Man, the NY Giants can't catch a break. Saquon Barkley gone for the year after two games. Ugh. I was thinking of signing up for DAZN so I could watch their games but I think I'll pass on that. I'm now thinking of signing up for the Q streaming package to watch the Sea Dogs as they are going to be contenders this season. I can't go to any live games as TD Station is only allowing in season ticket holders.
Maritimer, your comment above about Price living on his own is one of the things that has baffled me most about this franchise over the past 2 decades. There are numerous players you could put in the same boat. Sid lived with Mario for about 4 years I think. Other teams have had veteran players house their young players. The one saviour we have is Josh Gorges who took in fellow BCer Gallagher and look how that turned out. Hell we should hire Gorgeous Gorges as a Nanny for up and coming stars like Suzuki, KK, Caulfield, Romanov. Though Nature Boy seems to have his shit together already.
Yeah moe my work is very busy too. Tis the season. Also finished a major (interior) reno. 8 weeks without a kitchen was rough.
Well, while we got some rain and wind, Teddy for the most part veered to the east, choosing to hammer the eastern shore of NS instead. Hope all the folks still in its path stay safe.
I don't really give two flying fucks who wins, but I'll give the Stars some RaduLOVE and wish them the best. Should be a very interesting FA season with the flat cap and teams also planning for the Kraken draft next spring...I mean after the leaves take all the marquee players off the board of course.
Despite the odd tropical storm blowing through these parts, this is still probably the safest place in the whole country if not the world, here in the Atlantic bubble. Stay safe FHFers in the RoC, wear a mask when you go out and observe the 2 meter rule. I do all the time.
I hope Steve is OK, he hasn't posted in some time. Maybe 'the Man' gave him an internet timeout.
Watching no hockey but would prefer Dallas over Tampa, because as Habs fans we'll eat the Sergachev and McDonough stellar play on D for quite a while. Not to mention Brisebois as GM, someone most of us thought should be in Habs management.

So I am not watching the hockey, just looking at the updates to see if Dallas can pull this off or not...in the meantime I did come across an interesting story that relates back to earlier comments about playing the new season in a similar type bubble. The author is a hack admittedly and I wasn't expecting much (he does find a way to include a leaf reference early on, but only one and it is easily skipped over), but if you have a few minutes, try this story out. Sounds like the players were all sold a bill of goods similar to someone selling timeshares in Turkey to get them to agree to go into the bubble...not surprising. https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/29939605/nhl-bubble-confidential-go-toronto-edmonton-playoff-hubs
'The Montreal Canadiens have signed defenceman Jeff Petry to a four-year, $25 million contract extension. The deal will carry an average annual of $6.25 million. Petry, 32, had 11 goals and 40 points in 71 games with the Habs this past season'
Agreed, the SFU mouthbreathers always want you to trade your good players when free agency approaches. Fuck that. And them. I hope they keep Max Domi as well, he's one of my favourites.
True story: I was on a Cuba beach wearing my CH swim trunks in 2015 when I learned of Petry signing the deal he is currently on. We'd just watched Tampa stop our playoff run if memory serves, putting a damper on the vacation. Then to learn of that signing, it was like, okay, we're good! Damn good!
Like my old pals the Asexuals realized, Dish is a cause for celebration (and an album title). GYFHG - no smurfs left on the blue line (first four anyway).
Big win for TB - don't think Dallas has much chance now. I would prefer CHé and ex-Broon Seguin, but damn, Brayden Point! More talent on TB team. They oughta win it tomorrow. --SiM
Next two years, le Club de Hockey Canadiens va devinir trop dûr à contre-vaincre. Plus the draft. Plus Domini will soon be signed, Lip too. Druid, Nature and KidKoho set to blow the lid off. Holy shit! --SiM
No network wants to carry Giants games anymore and I ain't watching the fucking Pats all year. With the help of my 23 year old son and a smart tv, I'm gold now. Heh heh.
Man do the Giants ever suck. Good thing there's no fans in the stadium or Daniel Jones would be hearing lots of boos. Maybe I should watch the fucking Pats the rest of the year... Naahhh....
Well, that was fucking awful. I had forgot that the Niners were in the Super Bowl back in Feb. so there is that. The Giants had zero offence and their defence was a fu*king sieve. Oh well, another high draft pick next April.
Sorry moe, no can do. If I have to watch another team it would probably be the Pack.
Some Habs fans and some media personalities are revisiting the Drouin - Sergachev trade.
Bergevin has made three of what I consider to be big trades. First was the PFK for Weber trade which was made to remove PK's larger than life (and irritating to some players apparently) personality from the room. OK fair enough. You could even say bergy won that trade but neither the Habs, Predators or Devils won anything because of it although the Preds went to the Finals with PK in 2017.
Bergy got a boatload for Pacioretty but in Vegas defence, they were/are trying to win now. Chalk up a W for MB in this deal.
Now, for the Twitter banter regarding Drouin aka the Turnover Machine for Sergachev, this one is a pure loss for bergy. I get it, mb was trying for a pure laine homerun hoping for Richard/Beliveau/Lafleur but all he got was Reggie Houle/Marc Tardif. Servicable players but no star power there. Sergachev will probably anchor the Tampa D for a decade after Hedman slows down which won't be anytime soon. That trade was a bad move and always will be.
I give bergy a 1-1-1 record for those deals.
Side note: My NY Giants are the new Cleveland Browns. They are going to be bad for years to come.
Au contraire, I have liked what I've seen from the last season's Druid when he is confident and fully healthy, which hasn't been much of the time. Does he deserve to be the best-paid forward on the team? Not yet. Probably not ever. But he is still young, and if Grant McCagg says he is maybe about to blossom still (think: Tyler Seguin, for example), who knows. Yes Sergy is blossoming, and maybe that trade looks better for Tampa, but our blieline is now rather impressive anyway, and at least Bergevin took a shot for a truly talented sniper - which everyone wanted him to do, at the time. --SiM
The M. Could be worse, you could be a NY Jets fan! I get why the Pats are so easy to hate, they're like the leaf of the NFL with the media coverage. I tire of it myself sometime. But I gotta say, they may not be better with Cam Newton over Tom Brady. But they're certainly more interesting in that you don't know what you might get game to game. And yesterday, I looked at my hopeless fantasy team and 15 minutes before game time, I threw my own hail mary and picked up and inserted Rex Burkhead into my lineup. 3 touchdowns later and I have a chance to win! I'm down 12 points. I have Mahomes. Opponent has the KC Kicker Butker who is usually good for 10 points. I should win as this should be a high flying heavy on offence game. I'm looking forward to Mahomes vs Jackson tonight, should be a great game. I'll meet you and moe in 2022 for that Steelers game :)
I think my feelings on Drouin are known in this forum. I have always felt he was a floater. He has his moments when he performs well but his production totals don't say anything about doing it consistantly. I want him to prove me wrong so badly but I don't see it happening. Maybe I don't know him enough but he doesn't exude "superstar" and that is what he is expected to be. Sadly to me he barely exudes "3rd Liner"...but maybe the injuries and move to a position he is even worse at impacted that. Time will tell and, like I said, I want him to make me eat crow. I promise you all here - if he does, I will!
Meh, Nathan MacKinnon made Drouin look like a superstar in Halifax. Stevie Y. took a chance on him and saw what JD was made of when he pouted about his ice team and took his ball and went home until his agent talked him into returning to salvage his career. Overrated player. Stevie took bergy to the cleaners. End of story.
i distinctly remember blasting one of you for cheering NE. i shrieked and cried and chewed you out for liking the gridiron equiv of our hated rivals! how can you? how can you like the sister team to the city we love to beat!?
and holy schitt! now three of you are going to watch the steelers together!?! again! just b/c i am a druid fan boy doesnt havta make us enemies! if the three of u do decide on a year to go, i wanna come too, but ill havta be a game against your most hated rivals.... and typical, i bet you guys dont have a clue who i am
So apparently Tampa won the Cup last night. Good for them. Sergy won a Cup so they win the trade...is that how it goes? Must have been weird parading a Cup around over their heads in an empty, mostly silent arena. Would have preferred Dallas as the NHL could use another Russian getting hammered with the Cup for the next couple of months ala Ovi...Do we know of any other "Russians" who will be celebrating with Stamkos?...
The arrogant toronto media rears it's ugly head again. Fuck you Cox you POS leaf fanboy.
Congrats to Mikail Sergachev on winning the 2020 Cup. TB should send a ring to Steve Yzerman for constructing an outstanding team. I don't like them but I respect them.
As for our beloved Habs, I think we are in Year One of new 5 year cycle with the emergence of Suzuki and Kotka as key players to build around. Lots of rumours still regarding Patrick Laine being acquired with various trade packages thrown around with some including Cole Caufield. Who would you rather have playing wing for the Habs, 5-7, 155lb Caufield or 6-5, 205lb Laine. I know who I would pick.
Oh wow...didn't realise that Caufield was only 5'7. Changes a lot actually. That's really short (with respect). The Habs (and BBB) are at the point where they need to make fucking statement move. Re-signing Dish, getting Alain to back up TFS, bringing in and signing Edmudson (does he have a nick yet?)have addressed areas of concern. The other HUGE challenge the Habs have is that they don't have a true sniper. No one who is going to get +40 or (dare I dream 50!) goals - big money goals. They have an entire team who will bash the living shit out of the front of the net until a puck occasionally will trickle across the line. I know that hockey has changed but they need a pure goal scorer...that is what they need. IMO...
K3X pretty sure you'd have a tough time finding anybody in here disagreeing with your assessment of what the Habs need most. I just turned on the telly and it was literally the last moments of Thats Hockey and Gino says somebody is reporting that the Habs are shopping their first round pick. Pretty sure MB too has realized this is what the team needs so if giving up that pick it best be part of a package to get a Laine-esque scorer if it ain't him.
Have not heard that track in a very long time...she certainly looked like she enjoyed singing it, as creepy as it is revisited all these years later...hehehehehehe
No, 1500 season ticket holders are allowed to attend. Masks are required until you sit, you remain seated except for washroom breaks or getting food and drinks. No congregating on the concourse. Seating will be spread out. Hopefully later in the year more fans will be allowed in. I'm going to watch on TV tonight.
The only travel is in the Atlantic bubble. SJ, Moncton, Bathurst, Charlottetown, Halifax and Cape Breton play 60 games 12 times each. Should be some animosity built up by March!
Well that was a mess. The game was up in Bathurst which the Sea Dogs were leading 3-0 going into the 3rd period. They blew the 3 goal lead and lost 4-3 in OT. Saint John has quite a few very talented players but they are still a very young team with lots to learn. Good to see hockey again. I couldn't watch the NHL playoffs after Montreal was eliminated, just didn't feel right games being played in August plus couldn't stomach the SFU leaf fanboy announcers.
