*checks standings to see how close to the top of the standings the Preds are...only to find they are only 3 points up on the Habs. Are the Habs really THIS bad?! I get the missing pieces but holy hell.
So, my eye test tells me the Habs currently have 3 legit forwards, 2 defencemen and 2 sub-par goalies. We have to accept this is by design.
In the month of January, they’ll face Nashville Predators (x2), New York Rangers (x2), St-Louis Blues, Seattle Kraken, New York Islanders, Winnipeg Jets, Florida Panthers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, and Ottawa Senators (x2).
Anybody see any wins here? A couple maybe, with some luck? They will firmly be in the Bedard sweepstakes.
All those names you mentioned combined = about $25mil. Dvo got a few but man, that is lot of coin producing nothing. It's hard to believe and accept that this many players can all crash and burn at the same time.
Today in Habs revisionist history I got to wondering what the impact would have been with one small change.
2009 draft. As always the Quebecois media are starving for a homegrown star so GM Bob Gainey is pressured into taking Louis LeBlanc at #18.
The general consensus pick at that spot was...Chris Kreider, whom the Rags took with the next pick. One small change like that can drastically change what the team might look like today, but one thing we know for sure is that exact play where Kreider took Price's knee out would not have happened. Maybe they win a cup that year. Maybe they miss the playoffs. Who knows? Maybe Price is still healthy and playing but carrying a mediocre team like he did for a decade. But I'd like to think that change would have been a very positive one and we'd have a cup by now. I'll live in that world for a while because we're a few years out in reality.
He was spotted by Stu Cowan wearing a big-ass brace on his left knee the other day. They will get a bettrr evaluation here at home, maybe today in fact.
Clutch performance by the Czech team. Tied it with 39 seconds left in the third, then a great power-forward effort by Kulich to put his team in the gold medal game with seconds left in OT.
If it walks like a tanks and tanks like a tank, its a tank. Special teams are the easiest thing to fix, like the PP and PK, Montreal is tanking there on purpose.
I think you are right steve. I watched until the end of the 2nd period last night. They had a PP right at the end and I could not believe how pathetic it was. It was comical. The habs could not enter the Nashville zone, no way no how. There's no way that wasn't deliberate.
Noice.
ReplyDeleteBack to the grind ...
Hope you enjoyed your extended break.
DeleteLots of pleasant distraction but way too many big parties, at my place.
DeleteJKBOB!
ReplyDeleteJust Keep Bedarding On Boys
DeleteHah! So tomorrow is Zach Dean's 20th bday. Does that mean he is disqualified from suiting up in this "U20" tourney?
DeleteSo 50 year old Jaromir Jagr scored on a goal assisted by 40 year old Tomas Plekanec today. Habs could use that experience down the stretch.
ReplyDeleteGI Finn riding the pine tonight. I think MSL wants a win to close out the trip (and he'll get one). GYFHG
ReplyDeleteDavid Savard back in, and not a shift too soon.
ReplyDeleteFirst one was not a goal. About armpit level, higher than 4'... but Tanks a lot Toronto.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand Barron and Thinman being dressed with a perfectly fine-running machine Honda Civic sitting idle in the driveway.
ReplyDeleteLe tank.
DeleteWin one for vos Mamans, les Boys!
ReplyDeleteYoung Barron is outmatched at every turn at this level. Not. Ready. For. The. Show.
ReplyDeleteTruth. Hoped for better from him but, nope. Not yet at least.
DeleteOver before it started. Shame the Moms were treated to such shite games.

Beginning to look very much like it.

ReplyDeleteThose mustard yellow uniforms are by far the ugliest in the league.
ReplyDeletePowerhorse!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping they can hold the Col. Mustards to no more than 5.
ReplyDeleteBonne Nuit.

That is just like the name of my fave Mats song, ie: Sadly Beautiful
DeleteButterfly effect spread from the goal grease to the greasy knoll

ReplyDeleteMeh... Another blowout...
ReplyDeleteAny news on Whiskey ?
ReplyDeleteHe was back on the bench after missing just a shift or two. Think he's good.
DeleteThx SiM. Guess when I fell asleep on the couch.
DeleteAs bad as things are, check the Black Hawks record. Yikes, that's Dom DoHarm bad. Maybe Luke stole his playbook.
ReplyDeleteAny news on Iron Kaiden?
ReplyDeleteGo Habs
Go Canada

DeleteJoshua Roy is having himself a game.
ReplyDeleteBeauty pass by Zach Dean (turned 20 today) to Fantilli who taps it in for a 3-2 lead.
ReplyDeleteIfn Habs manage to draft Fantilli, I suggest Lace as a nickname.
DeleteMissed the game due to curling. We were down early, mounted a comeback but fell just short in the end. Glad the boys fared better.
ReplyDeleteJust my annual "The Winter Classic is a Buttman Fucking exhibition farce and should never count in the standings" reminder...
