I know I'm late on this, but aside from his heritage, is there any reason that a player who only played one full season with the team should have his name added to the Habs Ring of Honour? Perhaps if he was instrumental in leading that team to glory that year. Perhaps. But they lost in the first round that year. I just find this decision by the team really mind boggling. His induction to the HoF has nothing to do with the 1+ years he spent with the Habs...
Sorry yes Pierre Turgeon. I guess the captain thing?...but I can't imagine Brian Gionta ever being added for instance. I guess it doesn't matter and if it makes most of your fans happy, no biggy. Maybe it's that he was the last player to put up over 90 points?
He also was Captain when the retired tge Forum, and of course he then inaugurated the Molson Centre, putying his torch-filled hand into many historic pics and videos right there. The most serendipitous Captain ever?
I know it seems like I'm picking on the kid but it's actually the people who drafted him my ire is directed at. Slaf was a questionable pick to begin with but it seems management is just compounding the problem by keeping him up with the big club. He has 1 assist in 8 games, hasn't scored a goal in 30 games. What more do they need to (not) see to realize he does not belong in the NHL? He was benched in the 3rd period last game. He's just taking up space right now. Ylonen is the better choice for a roster spot, at least he looks like he knows what he's doing. Some of you are seeing progress but for the life of me I can't. Please elaborate.
Can't agree more. Yet I see some professional writers still defending him. Like the M I don't do 'advances analytics' but I know what I see. The kid is lacking confidence and decision making ability. Whether he has the actual skills to succeed is yet to be determined.
Hell, a few weeks in Laval even did good for Armia it seems. He looked like the every 10th game awesome Armia... let's see if he keeps it up or disappears for 9 games.
AND...it was just a terrible year to get that #1 pick. Wright was the consensus #1 and he's still playing average hockey in the AHL. Cooley is playing better after staying in the NCAA in his draft year, but not tearing it up. It boils down to this management team being no different from previous ones in rushing the kid. No different from KK, Galchenyuk, Latendresse...all players I feel would have benefited dearly from a year or two in the minors. On the plus side, KK is 23 and a point/game player through 9 games this year...maybe he's finally made the leap and maybe it'll take time for Slaf.
Sure, give Slaf time to develop, just not in Montreal. Honestly, I don't see a very high ceiling for him regardless how long he cooks in the minors. I was thinking last Saturday night he will be at best another Armia. Maybe.
Big Bird spent two season in the AHL. Its rediculous that the woke draft picks dont want to go to laval because it will crush them. Give me a break. Look at the great Detroit teams, everyone spent at least a year on the farm learing how to grow goals.
Great, great post over at EOTP. I had to share....
The most egregious distortion caused by the "loser point" and OT rules is the absurd notion, pushed by know-nothing journalists forced to cover the NHL instead of more prestigious sports leagues, that the 2022-2023 Boston Bruins had the best regular season record of all time.
In 82 games they won 54 in regulation, lost 12, and tied 16.
The 1976-77 Canadiens had 60 wins, 8 losses and 12 ties (in 80 games).
(The Habs also won 58 and 59 games in the season before and after that one.)
There's no logical accounting that sees the Bruins with a better record than any of those three legendary teams - all of which also went on to win the Stanley Cup instead of choking in the first round.
I’m in agreement with The M I think the slavster would be better placed in the AHL No pressure He hasn’t done well since we lost Dach We aren’t in a hurry Go Ana Go Habs
I'm torn on Slav...i don't think he's hurting the team with his play but I'm concerned he's not helping himself by sticking around. He's growing into his body too, which takes time and I'm convinced he's got a lot to offer...just need a time...but where should he spend it...?
To be honest, I think he should go to whichever junior team has his rights like his buddy Mesar, another Bobrov dart thrown. Unless he goes back to Europe. Maybe he could play with Reinbacher in the Swiss league.
I think being a 4th line dink in the NHL is masturicin. You can spend all the time you want on the ice but your never comming close to Elite Status. Slaf is not Jack Hughes. We have G chuck, we have Kid Ko we have Druid, we have a host of top picks who can play in the NHL but you can get them every day of the week for 700 k a year on ebay. Put him the Laval for one or two years. If he cant dominate Laval we need to cut our loss.
Good discussion on Last Slaf. I could see Laval doing him some good, but it's more his self-confidence than skill that's lacking. I think he might blossom on this little road trip, if the pressure comes off. I think he wants tp shoot more bit is also a big enough team player that he really wants to help his linemate Powerhorse pot his first of the season too. But I so far don't see any harm in him staying up. That could change quickly however.
And shootout, like the game, gets decided by a goalpost. Good effort came back again and snagged a hard-earned point on the road against a very solid team. Heads up high boys!
The NY Giants are throwing in the towel on this season. Too many OL injuries, poor QB, no receivers, it's just bad. The D isn't bad but they can't do it all. Keep rebuilding and for the love of God draft a QB.
Did all my pre-op tests today, ECG, bloodwork and x-rays on the ol' knee (even a covid swab), going in tomorrow morning for knee replacement surgery. I'll get my shots in a few weeks as I won't be going to far anyway.
The Habs are doing well, I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Best of luck with the new knee! I had a friend who had both a hip done and a knee done (separately) and she said the knee was far harder to recover from. I hope it goes well for you.
Just dreaming because it'll never happen and doesn't make sense for a rebuilding team...but the Pens are not looking good. So maybe Sid would like to spend the last couple of years of his career with his boyhood team. Not sure what that deal looks like, probably lots of prospects and picks going the other way. Again, just dreaming here.
Back home with my new knee, everything went well and I'm up and mobile with a walker. I'll start my physio in a week or so. I really don't anticipate any problems as I was active leading up to the surgery and all my years of karate training kept my legs strong! Hai!
I echo Saint Paddy's fantasy about Sid coming to play for the Habs but don't see it ever happening. Sid is loyal and even though Mario no longer owns the team I think he will stick it out in Pitt. Unless Boy Wonder decides to do a major rebuild. Certainly HuGo has lots of draft capital and prospects to dangle.
Habs get the Desert Dogs on the back end of a back to back after Az had to travel from Anaheim last night. And Montreal has been resting since Monday. I like their chances! I'll record the game and watch it in the morning.
Too bad about the L in the desert. RHP took a couple of rough hits (inlcuding one dirty one right in front of the ref that went uncalled), so if Devo is back tomorrow I suspect he will be odd man out.
Looks like we missed our opportunity to pool our money and grab 10% of the Habs for a mere $250M. Next time there is a chance, we'll be more on the ball.
Oof, Sharks start the season 0-9-1 after losing game #10, 10-1 vs the Canucks. There is talk of this possibly being the worst team ever. And yet Chicago will win the lottery...
Habs play the Sharks on Nov 24th...hopefully they have a win by then or else I foresee how that game would go. That must be Black Friday, it's a 330 EST game. Great for UK3X on a Friday night.
I have that one on my radar...we changed the clocks last week so it's bad luck with Habs being in the west. A 2 am start meantni missed it. You guys dial it back Saturday night dontcha?
I need some FHF advice please...my cousin (86 yrs young) lives in Whitby and wants to watch the Habs on her TV. Is there any Habs hockey package she can buy that lets her watch them...without having to stream on the Internet...cause she doesn't do that. Can anyone enlighten me?
Pretty sure bettman's nhl and the complicit leafnet blacks out Habs games in that area, unless it is Ciity TV (a toronto station) airs it on Saturdays as leafnet complicitly airs leaf games 'nation' wide.
Get all better real soon, moe! I see Devo is in, and that means TJ (as in Hooker) can go to the wing. Maybe Slaf gets to play with a bona fide centre tonight. Lindstrom sent down to Laval, which is fine.
I find draft history intriguing. So in my reply to oleg above I noted that Danny Kristo was touted as a potential decent player. He was Montreal's first pick, late in the 2nd round in 2008. They would select four more players and not one NHL game played between the five of them. We had some lean draft years but that one was particularly bad.
They look sloppy tonight. Lots of giveaways. Lots of reaching for the puck rather than taking the body. Good news is they've had success battling back so let's see...
I know I complain a lot, it just annoys the heck out of me when I see a team that's not competing. Sure, lose some games but make the other team work for it. However, things could be worse, we could be Oilers fans.
its my fault guys. im still not over it and im still not back on the wagon. im only here cause i have nothing better to do tn. i complain a lot and its probably penetrating their skin and affecting their weak play. what u said SP is corfect however. its not us in the ice, but those who are (powerhorse, GIJoel...) arent taking the body on easy hits
Suppose it's cause this was the first game I watched end to end. Now that the clocks changed it's back to midnight starts or worse...except on 24 November and Superbowl weekend...Habs looked sloppy, and slow generally.
I only watched the highlights and based upon that Slaf did close to a Frampton. The Yes line (cause they are all fragile) still looking good. Red Baron got ambushed. Montatoeboo was tick tack toed all night. Oh well at least panic has set in in Toronto.
Hey guys, I bailed after St. Louis 5th goal, I'm on so much pain meds I can barely stay awake anyway.
The Habs just didn't show up, except for the kid, who did all he could do. What is up with Matheson? He was terrible last night, falling down, giveaways galore it was like he was still handing out Halloween treats to the St. Louis forwards. Wasn't a lot Full Monty could do on a lot of them. If I was Coach Marty they'd be bag skated today.
Oh well, like steve and Saint Paddy said, the beaners finally lost in regulation and it's panic in the cotu. All they are is a 4 man team. Looks good on them.
If you bank with RBC, stop. I just saw an ad with Underpants in it, labelling him as "the world's best hockey player". How can you trust a bank that falsifies info in its ads?
Well us Habs fans might have the Slaf conundrum, but it's nothing compared to the shit shows in Ottawa, Edmonton Calgary and to a degree the Leafs. It goes to show you can have the best player like McDavid or a top scorer like Underpants, and it means nothing if your team isn't properly built top to bottom and properly coached. So hopefully the Habs are no the right track with those two important factors.
I was just reading about the Oilers and how Woodcroft is on thin ice and they are ready to run Jack Campbell out of town. Every Saturday night the script is haharudy defending the leaf goalie and trying to fix him with haha pronouncing: "I'm cheering for him." I believe at one time the SFU were promoting JC as the Vezina trophy winner. Any non-biased hockey fan could see he sucked and the Habs proved it in 2021. Anyway haha is still cheering for every sad sack leaf goalie whether it's Matt Murray, Samsonov or whoever, "I believe in him!" Haharudy what a dipshit.
I know I'm late on this, but aside from his heritage, is there any reason that a player who only played one full season with the team should have his name added to the Habs Ring of Honour? ReplyDeleteI just find this decision by the team really mind boggling. His induction to the HoF has nothing to do with the 1+ years he spent with the Habs...
Oh and that lead pic is my favourite so far!
Whom are we talking about??
DeleteI think it is because Pierre Turgeon was Captain (?).
DeleteSorry yes Pierre Turgeon.
DeleteI guess the captain thing?...but I can't imagine Brian Gionta ever being added for instance. I guess it doesn't matter and if it makes most of your fans happy, no biggy. Maybe it's that he was the last player to put up over 90 points?
Oh, OK, Turgeon. He put up 96 points his one full year. That's pretty much it. Yeah, questionable decision.
DeleteHe also was Captain when the retired tge Forum, and of course he then inaugurated the Molson Centre, putying his torch-filled hand into many historic pics and videos right there. The most serendipitous Captain ever?

ReplyDeleteNeed Dvo back and he'll be sent down to Laval.
DeleteI hope you are right. I think he will struggle down there as well. He has no concept of the pro game.
DeleteCan't agree more. Yet I see some professional writers still defending him. Like the M I don't do 'advances analytics' but I know what I see. The kid is lacking confidence and decision making ability. Whether he has the actual skills to succeed is yet to be determined.

ReplyDeleteEnjoy the game folks, too late for this old fart. I'll catch the hi-lites in the morning.
ReplyDeleteI am still up. Looks like Maths is in. GYFHG! This is an interesting schedule, going from Winnipeg to Vegas.
ReplyDelete6 min. in and no chintzy penalties yet. Habs looking sharp all around so far.
ReplyDeleteIf there is any benefit of the doubt to give, the refs ain't ever got for our Tweed.
ReplyDeleteMoneyHab! Shortie with comic effect!
ReplyDeleteI was mostly watching football but saw the shortie. What a gaff by the Vegas goalie. That'll be on some 'top' 10 lists for years.
ReplyDeleteOy, the D looked terrible on that 2-1 goal. It's way too late. Good luck in the 3rd boys.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteMcAvoy = p.o s
ReplyDeleteNature!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMonty with a key save, 9 sec. left, and does it with Dryden-level nonchalance, to show the boys he's got this.
ReplyDeleteGot a point vs. Cup champs in their barn, playing hard. This bodes well. La prolongation à venir!
ReplyDeleteWow. We've certainly been getting the fullest Monty in this OT.
ReplyDeleteNature!
ReplyDeleteAnd shootout, like the game, gets decided by a goalpost. Good effort came back again and snagged a hard-earned point on the road against a very solid team. Heads up high boys!
ReplyDeleteWell done laddies! Eat shit SFU!!
ReplyDeleteGreat game. How about that reffing !
ReplyDeleteGood game last night. Monty was Money in OT. Nice point
ReplyDeleteWell we had a Halloween BBQ and double jabbing (COVID/flu) at work today. After a late night last night, she's looking like an early one tonight.

DeleteGo Kings! Go Danno! 3 zip LA in the 2nd.
ReplyDeleteEven the ESPN commentators noting how dead the leaf rink is. LOL, typical CotU fans.
Perfect place to play a Hallowe'en game. Quiet as a graveyard.

Added an Ana pic, new FHF gal of the month in the next thread. I noticed her whilst re-watching True Detective Season 1, which is incredible.
ReplyDeleteBeen down with the flu this week, even after getting my shot in early October. It is a doozy.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of doozy, re-mastered 'Phantom Power' Deluxe by The Tragically Hip is great.
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better moe and the knee is rehabbing well M.
ReplyDeleteMore Ana is always welcomed!
So much talk on the social media about Slaf, I'm going to stop ragging on him and just wait to see what happens since I have zero control.
Hope moe is doing well. It's been a tough few days with the knee. I can see why some people won't or can't do the post op exercises. Very painful.
DeleteAs for the kid, I've said what I think.
I hear he's on the 1st line tonight with Whiskey and Nature...so let's see...MSL gonna give him enough rope to shine or swing...
DeleteAll the whining on the panel about ratface's can opener on Liligren ... what did they hire Reaves for? What a bunch of losers.
ReplyDeleteGet all better real soon, moe! I see Devo is in, and that means TJ (as in Hooker) can go to the wing. Maybe Slaf gets to play with a bona fide centre tonight. Lindstrom sent down to Laval, which is fine.

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't get too excited, even Armia scores once in a while....
ReplyDeleteOooffff..
ReplyDeletewhat happened to christian thomas? he was steve's kid, correct? did he get a fair chance? he was here as a prospect and then gone
ReplyDeleteHabs traded the highly touted Danny "Frostbite" Kristo for Thomas.
DeleteHe played 25 games for the Habs and was traded to AZ for Lucas Lesso, who played 12 games for the Habs. Thomas played 1 game for AZ.
They now both play for the same team in Austria.
wow. thanks SP. u had that all memorised, like all of eMTpy's winning line combos huh?
DeleteI remembered the trade. Looked up the numbers.
Deletegreat. just feaking awesome great: StL one of only two teams to average < 2.0 goals per game
ReplyDelete'sigh'.... does this team ONLY know how to do things the hard way?!
ReplyDeleteoverpaying by 6 rounds for bigMac was pretty bad, eh?
DeleteBlues have a Kapanen. Habs drafted one a couple years ago, don't hear much about him.

ReplyDelete4th PP for the Habs. They beat score because they amazingly haven't taken a penalty...yet...but you know it's coming
ReplyDeleteWell...shit.
ReplyDeleteThought Red Baron got tripped
ReplyDeleteThey weren't calling 5 in a row.
DeleteTerrible
ReplyDeleteOk...so now it's done...sloppy as fuck
ReplyDeleteOh come on...pulling the goalie down 5-2... fuck off!
ReplyDeleteLeafs/Bruins/Sens all lose too. Small victories
ReplyDeleteI assume this isn't that they think they can score three, but rather just to practice 6 on 5 and hope to at least get one
ReplyDeleteWorst game of the season...?
ReplyDeleteStayed out of the box at least?
DeleteI think the Minnesota game might have been worse but yeah this was bad.
Suppose it's cause this was the first game I watched end to end. Now that the clocks changed it's back to midnight starts or worse...except on 24 November and Superbowl weekend...Habs looked sloppy, and slow generally.

I would have given the game to Allen, St. loo homecoming ...
DeleteYeah I found it odd that Allen not only didn't start but didn't even dress.
DeleteI was thinking the same thing, but playing that poorly Jake would have got lit up as well so probably just as well they didn't.
DeleteAgree with the M re: Matheson, man was he terrible last night. I only hope the team has learned its lesson and he isn't playing hurt.
DeleteHe's either hurt or he's trying to free wheel a little too much. He needs to stop that and play defence for a while.
DeleteIf you bank with RBC, stop. I just saw an ad with Underpants in it, labelling him as "the world's best hockey player". How can you trust a bank that falsifies info in its ads?
ReplyDeleteTake those RBC patches off the home jerseys right now. Best player my ass, he's not even in the top 10.
DeleteLOL!! What a f*cking dumpster fire the Giants are. Fire EVERYBODY!!!
ReplyDeleteWell us Habs fans might have the Slaf conundrum, but it's nothing compared to the shit shows in Ottawa, Edmonton Calgary and to a degree the Leafs. It goes to show you can have the best player like McDavid or a top scorer like Underpants, and it means nothing if your team isn't properly built top to bottom and properly coached. So hopefully the Habs are no the right track with those two important factors.

DeleteI was just reading about the Oilers and how Woodcroft is on thin ice and they are ready to run Jack Campbell out of town.
ReplyDeleteAnyway haha is still cheering for every sad sack leaf goalie whether it's Matt Murray, Samsonov or whoever, "I believe in him!" Haharudy what a dipshit.
Go Dolts light those fuckers up
Stupid Dolts, can't do anything right. How could they lose to that shit team?
