    2. I have to say the same, honestly, but upon hearing Chantal Hébert talk about how affecting this song is, I checked it out and, wow. "L'amérique pleure"

So I recorded TNF got the Habs and beaners then SNL and then the vegass grand prix.
This will call for 8 to 12 imported beers plus a small Iceberg out of the freezer.
Nothing will get done tomorrow cept watching The Als be somewhere they maybe shouldn't be and hopefully do something nobody thought they would do. Fingers crossed but defence wins championships. No Sheriff tonight I hope Powerhorse doesn't go down compensating.
    Go Als!
    Go Habs!

Looks like the Habs won't need the Sheriff tonight anyway. Ol' Pretzel Logic got himself in a spot of trouble apparently.

  10. Just got back early from a party where I met a lady whose parents live next door to Jake Allen's parents. She said when she was growing up they never watched a hockey game and now they follow Jake's every move, know everything about every current Hab, and never miss a game. She said when she used to visit they'd be in bed at 9. Now it's her hitting the hay early, and the parents in their 70s, are staying up til 11 and recording west coast games to watch with their morning tea.

This story I feel is a good omen and the Habs will beat the beamers again, backed by their boy Jake in the crease.

Couple of observations on a wet and windy Saturday night as I rehab my aching knee.

The Red team really struggle to exit their own zone. Is that a sign of youth or poor strategy? Meanwhile, Boston fly their own zone with ease. They have structure coming out the yingyang.

14 and 22 aren't as good as we think they are. If HuGo want to advance the cause after this season, they seriously need to sign or trade for a big time scorer.

I'm going to watch a bit longer...

  17. That sucked.

    GO ALS !

Yes, going to be another long season. The bottom of the league is rushing up to meet them. A west coast swing is a good break from watching the current proceedings. Lots of football this week.

  21. scoring is tough, its tougher if you continue to take stupid penalties. Positive signs, Devo has been his best Devo and Slaf looks like he is figuring it out. Will Jake the Snake wave his no move to go to the Moan? Will we give up on Primau? Aside from Daniel Steele is there a bigger more dangerous clown in Canada than the PM of Quebec. LA here is 7 million, Habs would do it for free but I guess they are to anglo. NHL teams are not going to go to your house of horrors province.

When Jeff Gorton was GM in New York, he famously wrote a letter to season ticket holders that hea was going to tear it all down and rebuild. He got lucky twice getting the #2 than the #1 picks in the first two years. But, in that two year span he also signed Artemi Panarin as a UFA and traded for Zibanejad, got a gift thrown his way in Adam Fox and boom, that team was launched into contender status. Looking at Montreal, one could see a similar path being taken if the desire is there. Gorton got a #1 and a #5 pick, he has a possible Fox clone in Lane Hutson. What's missing? Well, I would love to see HuGo steal Willie Styles from the wretched, despicable leaf. Throw him a boatload of cash and use some of that draft capital and prospects to acquire another sniper from some rebuilding team on the way down the ladder. You know what they say: "Fortune favours the Bold!"

I am all in in signing a fucking superstar. If we could sign him would he deliver? Willie is willie and he plays his own game. MaKING 3 MILL MORE THAT EVERONE ELSE. Hope the team loves thier willie. I know I love mine.

  33. Weird schedule this week, presumably all related to espn and US Thanksgiving. There are no games on Tuesday or Thursday, which are usually the busy nights of the week. Not even sure if I'll be watching any games, but even though the Habs are off to California, only the Wednesday game is a late one. Friday and Saturday are afternoon games (so 5ish our time I think). Even with the Sharks' horrendous start, the Habs now sit dead last in regulation wins at two.

I have to agree with the M, that this team is just not good yet. Will NiCole ever be a dynamic duo or just a couple of decent players? Will DaCH be better? I fear not.

I mean, you only have to look at the two Canadian teams with the 'superstar' #1 overall picks on their teams to show you that having uber talent up front guarantees nothing. But to succeed you need somebody that can score consistently, have a solid D core and decent goaltending.
It's not happening via draft, so yeah, HuGo might have to wheel and deal to find that superstar forward. I'm not sure Willy is the guy, but if so he would be public enemy #1 in the SFU and that would make it double awesome.
In a couple of years, the D could be amazing.
I think the goaltender that is going to grow with this team are in the early stages of development. They drafted three this year and two of them look really great. If Kent can get a good return on any of the current three, pull the trigger. I just don't see any of them, including Monty, bringing home the cup.

First, Congrats to the Montreal Alouettes on winning the Grey Cup, probably the 2nd best trophy in pro sports, for looks and history. The NFL championship trophy is ... a football ... really? Even the PGA golf trophies are better than NFL, NBA and MLB.

So, while watching the very young Canadiens get whipped Saturday night I just came to the realization they still have a long, long way to go. The D will get better with time and hopefully one of the young goalies will develop in the next few years. But you have to score some goals to win. When two of your supposed better scorers are currently snake bit, it shows how weak the Habs are up front. I guess it depends on the discussions that HuGo had with Geoff Molson on how long they want to drag out this rebuild before becoming at least competitive but I would guess that the natives will be getting restless by the end of this season and will want progress at some level. There's no doubt losing Dach hurt them, but as I said, a true sniper or even 2 is desperately needed. There are a few out there than can be had I'm sure, looks like even Patrick Laine is on thin ice in Columbus. The Habs don't need any more draft picks, they need NHL ready players. C'mon Kent, let's see some action!

  38. Welcome to the big leagues Jayden Struble! Good luck.

    Who's got a good nickname?
    Strudel is lame. Delicious...but lame.
He's from Rhode Island. There is the famous Rhode Island Red chicken..related to the Leghorn chicken. So we could call him Foghorn. It's a stretch, I know...but a great name.
    Strooby Doo!
    All ideas welcome.
