  1. Time to break up the three amigos goaltenders in Montreal.

    1) Full Monty is obviously the No.1 so,
    2) Trade Primeau to Philthy, he has a better chance to start there, Hart is doubtful to ever return
    3) Keep Jake for another year at least maybe more, he is a decent backup and
    4) That lets Dobes and Fowler develop for another couple years and see what they have.

We are going to lose a lot. Espiciallly if the AI benches MontobotHO. Loose Loose hard and loose fast and hope for at least number 8. There are 30 teams in the NHL, you cant legacy your way to the cup

Interesting fact from Herb at the Gazoo is CC’s assists are at 23 compared to 10 in 46 games last year
Speaks to the chemistry he has with Nature
MSL would be wise to keep them together
As CHester is old and can see into the past I always remember the great line combos that were kept together because there was chemistry between linemates
It’s like lightning in a bottle or some such expression
Also no disrespect to Sevens but the Pez man is breathing down your neck we need something more from Sevens just skating down on the forecheck isn’t enough in a competitive environment
Hugo has fixed the goalies and has created a defence to be proud of and so the offense is clearly next
We have many underachieving bottom six as well as players just keeping a place on the bench warm
    Should be interesting
    Go Habs

    1. Spot on CHester.
I too, remember the great line combos of the past, Richard and Lach were before my time but I remember Beliveau and Cournoyer, Lafleur and Shutt, Bobby Smith and Mats Naslund, Corson and Richer. Even to a lesser extent Saku and Kovalev. Let's hope Nick and CC can get there someday.

You are correct, the goaltending seems settled with Monty, Hughes still has a few details to work out there and the D needs experience. If the forwards can get their shit together and stay healthy it would be a big help.

  10. Team played great in the first. Fell asleep in the 2nd. Woke up for parts of the 3rd. Nice to score 5 goals, but Washington is old and slow and Habs gave up 39 shots. Maybe all the loser 'experts' predicting lineups for the event next year and the '26 Olympics WILL be forced to consider Monty as one of the three goalies if he keeps this up.

  12. Tuesday night is Trivia Night at Big Tide Brewing, a fun night with lots of laughs and a beer.

I looked at the Habs lineup pre-game and wrote it off as a loss. They had a goaltender, a defence and one line. The other 9 were just warm bodies skating around trying not to get scored on. All I can figure is Ovie's team were still hung over from the break and didn't take Montreal very seriously. Another two points the Tankers didn't want. Honestly, I don't think where they finish matters, Hughes has enough money in the bank to pull off a deal and get whoever he wants this June. Hopefully he goes gunning for a top end forward.

It annoys me to no end, these armchair GMs, saying 'trade this guy, trade that guy.' I think Hughes traded who he needed to, other than Pearson, all the other vets still have term. Keep them, they are more valuable to Montreal than more picks. Savard is still an effective defenceman and Allen is a great back up goalie. Like I said earlier, Primeau is never going to start in Montreal, send him to Philthy so he can have a chance.

They had the Calgary/beaners game on last night at the bar and I saw the Flames jumped on those scumbags early. I caught the hi-lites after I got home and saw some rookie got ratface douchebag right on his ugly beak with a nice high stick. Effin beautiful! Love seeing that dirtbag get a taste of his own medicine.

    As CHester likes to say
    Go Habs!

  13. One more thing, I suppose it's only fair to give a shout out to bargainbin bergy for finding Monty while dumpster diving in Sunrise, Fla. An even better find than Lord Byron.

  14. Didn't hear Cognac's name called much last night but he played nearly as much as Caufield and Anderson, and more than Evans and Pez. I did see him with a couple of speedy rushes, looks fast. 50% on faceoffs. Other than that he's still an unknown to me.

    1. Looking at Cap Friendly, the Dolts have no 1st or 2nd round picks in 2024, no 1st round pick in 2025. They have a 1st round pick in 2026 when they should be on a severe drop in the standings so maybe that would be worth Savard. But, I say it ain't happening. Interesting, TB have the 2nd highest cap hit have the wretched leaf, they can't do much I would think. Doucherov is an asshole, Vaseline is struggling and they aren't negotiating with Stamkos, hard times coming for that bunch. Good, still hate them after beating the Habs in 2021.

    1. And the bilingual municipalities must reapply yearly to Québec to maintain that status. No, the welcome mat is not out, even for those like me, native anglo Quebeckers. Legault is doing the dirty work his predecessors didn't have the will to do, of getting rid of the "money and ethnics" who weren't on board with Parizeau's cockamamie separation plan, just doing it very slowly. The Maritimes would be my first option. NS stole Mrs. SiM's and my hearts.

  25. There are more Ontarians here in Saint John and the province than you can shake a stick at, especially since Covid-19. Many of them are housing 'refugees', people who couldn't afford to buy a house in the GTA. Even prominent musician Maestro Fresh Wes moved here, he lives in the south end of Saint John and has his own TV show on CBC called Race Against the Tide where people try to build sand sculptures at New River beach before the tide comes in and wipes them out.

Alienated anglos in Quebec are welcome here too. Get a fresh start and get away from racists like Legault and Blanchett. Speaking of those two and the separatists, there is an easy solution to shut those guys up. Turn off the money tap. No more equalization payments. They want to be their own nation and speak French only? Sure, go ahead, see what happens when trying to negotiate deals with the Americans or the RoC when you don't want to talk in the language of the business world. I suspect there would be a huge out migration from la belle province pretty darn quick.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I know ignoring it isn't the solution, but there is so much shit happening in the world, sometimes I've got to just tune it all out and sink my time into something more mind numbing like sports. This is the perfect weekend with the two afternoon games, the WM Phoenix Open where Canada's Nick Taylor sits tied in first after tying the tournament record in round 1, and of course the Swift...err...Super Bowl Sunday night.

I'm a fan of the underdog. Plus I'm getting a little tired of KCs chop chop thing.
I would love to see Mr Irrelevant take down Mahomes and Mr Swift.
As much as I do have a great deal of respect for Fat Andy and Steve The Dman I love a fairy tale success story and that would be Mr Brock taking down Mahomes in The Big Show in The Big Place
Kuddos for San Fran to give him the ball at the beginning of this season and double kuddos to Mr Irrelevant for producing. I'm sure 49 ers management had their finger on the replace button at the beginning but the stars aligned and here they are.

  40. When Gallagher made his bone headed play nearly all Habs fans were in agreement it was dumb and worth a lot of games.

Leaf fans on the other hand are aligning with their coach and saying the play was 'appropriate' based on the circumstances and a suspension is not warranted.

That is one fundamental difference twixt the fan bases.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It's pathetic. I'm getting tired of watching an AHL team, 3rd year in a row.

That doggie in the window. Maybe Alex Burgess says that is a d0oor to percep[tion. So Jake the SNAKE becomes an andaconda keeping the goal safe. Post to post is always there, Top shelf, you got to go three expect convolutions. I predict the Montreal CANADIENS will be the first team to make a SNAKE the goalie.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hughes' biggest mistake by far (so far) is keeping three goalies all year. It's reduced the development of Primeau, and to an extent, Monty who hasn't played a a true #1 or 1A. And his limited use has rendered Allen worthless. Take a low pick for one or waive one and who cares if they get claimed.

Personally I'd trade Primeau if anybody would offer a 6th round pick, a round better than he was drafted. Fowler is the future a, possibly along with the Russian goalie that was drafted ilast year too.

So who's up for The Snake for your capable talented backup/starter ?
    Crickets...
    Go Habs

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm going to defend Jake Allen. Is he still a capable goalie in the NHL? I think so. Is he a #1? Definitely not any more. We have to remember he was the backup to Billington in St. Louis and he was brought in to be Carey Price's backup. Price was finished and then Jake gets thrown to the wolves playing for a team that was self-destructing under an overwhelmed junior coach. Now he's playing very sporadically in a 3 goalie system where he has no idea when or if he will be playing again. That's on management. Could Jake have played better yesterday? Right off the bat the pylons playing D let a guy waltz right in untouched. Then the rest of the day this same D stood around and watched (especially during the PK) as St. Louis had free rein to stand in front of him doing whatever they wanted to. I quit watching after it was 4 - 1 but that is basically what happened, correct? And Coach Marty didn't even have the decency to pull Allen out of that effed up mess.

Don't blame Jake. Look at the team playing in front of him. Other than line 1, does any of that scare another team, especially a big, solid, talented bunch like the Blues? And then Harris goes down and they are shorthanded the rest of the day.

Allen may have little value on the trade market but it's hardly his fault, that's all I'm saying.

I thought the Niners would pull it off last night but Mahomes is almost unstoppable in those situations. Too bad, I would have enjoyed watching Travis and Tay Tay crying after. And Andy Reid should have punched Travis in the puss for his antics on the sideline.

    Nick Taylor salvaged my weekend.

It’s amateur to leave your goalie in for 7 goals
    You have a backup
Bad play on the D aside you don’t do what fucking lepew did to st Patrick
Things are going down the pooper pull Jake period fucking amateur hour on MSL
    Anyway
    Sad for 49ers
I feel the difference in the game was fat Andy and Steve the D
49ers don’t match up there but they did everywhere else
They took the chiefs to overtime
But the coaching of the chiefs is the best in the league
Would have liked to see the chiefs taken down a notch would have been good for the NFL

  60. I like that the women are using the 3-2-1 point system. 3 pts for a regulation win, 2 for an OT/SO win, 1 for an OT/SO loss.

The NHL has argued that it would separate the standings too much and we wouldn't have meaningful games down the stretch. That's a load of crap.

In the east right now with this system, there would be big changes. FLA would be on top with 89 pts. BOS and TB would round out that division's top 3. NYR would be at 88 pts with CAR and PHI still in that top 3.

But the wild cards...well! Instead of TOR at #7 we would have NJ with 68 pts. DET would still be in 8th with 67 pts.
    9th place - BUF! at 62
    10th place - PIT at 61
    11th place - TOR at 60
    ...
    ...
    ...
    15th place - HABS at 45
    16th place - CBS at 38

Yeah it would change things a lot. You might see more teams actually trying to win a game in regulation rather than playing for 1 point. I would love to see this change, but it won't be in the Bettman era, or maybe never, because somehow it probably has a big impact on gambling, which now owns professional sports. But the EPL use this system I think and there are HUGE sums gambled on that league, so maybe...some day.

    ReplyDelete
  61. My prediction for the Rielly hearing - 4 games. I'm not defending him or the play in any way, but I've watched the play many times, and it seems as soon as he makes contact with the head he lets go of the stick, whether that was intentional or just losing his grip. But I think that saved any potential injury to Grieg. So with no suspension history and no injury, I think it is just the nature of intent and the fact that it was after the play on an unsuspecting player (even if he saw Rielly coming at the last moment) with the head shot (whether intentional or not) will = four games. Though the fact it is in person means maybe it will be six. Or maybe he will walk away with a $5K fine when you compare that hit to the 2 games that Underpants got for his vicious shot to Sandin.

  63. Regarding the 3-2-1 points system, I used to be against it because it would likely inflate the total points in a season and I didn't want to see the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens single season record of 132 points fall artificially. Now that the record has fallen anyway, IDGAF anymore. And as we all know, the dirty stinkin' beaners did not have the greatest season of all time. You have to go all the way to get that distinction. So F U SFU.

As for bad boy Reilly, he'll get 5+ for his offense. Remember a couple years ago when the SFU were saying auston was better than Gretzky and Reilly was better than Orr? Bwahahahahaha!!!!!! What kind of drugs do those idiots do up there in the Big Smoke??!!??
