Been a long day for the ol' Maritimer. Spent the whole afternoon on a trip to Fredericton and back, then right to my trivia team for another 2 hours, got a big win tonight. No afternoon snooze and my right leg is wrote off. I've got the pvr set to record so I'll check the score in the morning then either watch or erase.
Watched the first last night. Just watched the hi-lites and good to see they gave it a go.
Great to see Suzuki with another one. Just under a ppg pace with the hard minutes he plays and the top lines he plays against, on a team in the bottom 6 in scoring is a real testament to his skill. I'll say it again, he might not win but he 'should' be a finalist for the Selke.
Monty made some great saves. He's solid.
We can all agree that Josh Anderson looked terrible on that first goal. It's like he has zero awareness and he just can't think the game fast enough. That said, I caught the end of the first intermission last night and they recap the first period and the host says one goal by McDavid and Ekholm with the assist. Carlo Coliac-a-hole literally laughs out loud and says "That's generous, I thought Josh Anderson coughed it up and should get that assist!" Fucking unprofessional sfu ass.
I just found the video of the 4 minute minor to Army at the end. Shit luck. Should have been 2 minutes to Kane for interference too, resulting in only a 2 minute PP and the game might have gone the other way. Oh well, fewer points at this stage is acceptable.
Also wanted to mention the Pez fight. He took a couple of good shots but hung in there. Decision to the Oiler player though. Also, with the recent death of Chris Simon (RIP) and the family identifying CTE as the root cause, if I don't see another hockey fight I'm OK with that.
I'm not going to bother to watch the game since they lost, but reading about GI Finn's penalty, it was described as him being tied up with Evander Kane and another Oiler's stick brought Armia's stick up and made contact. So, basically friendly fire. But as usual the biased, donkey refs will give the benefit of the doubt to the Habs' opposition. In other words, screw you Montreal, you're getting the penalty because we hate you. Sounds normal.

Maybe since they were the 'anglophone' team, the Maroons won't fly, but I still say it makes perfect sense because they were literally named the Maroons because of the colour of their sweaters.
Just did a google translate and it tells me that Bordeaux is french for Maroon. The Montreal Bordeaux? I could see fans picking up on the Montreal Whine though in that case...I should get to work.

Just finished watching the new Road House movie on Amazon ... OMG ... it's so good! So f@cking funny! Connor McGregor is hilarious!! Jake Gyllenhall is a great Dalton, Patrick Swayze would be proud!
We enjoyed the new Road House so much we re-watched the original tonight. What an 80's classic, the hair, the clothes, the cars, people smoking in public places! Patrick Swayze showed some pretty good karate moves in the fight scenes and he even had a machiwara board in his loft to practice on. But when he is doing his kata by the lake that is tai chi or kung fu.
Oh yeah, Dalton's 'death blow' is not something that is practiced in martial arts, I'm pretty sure that was something Hollywood ripped off the old kung fu movies from China in the 70s. They were pretty cheesy as I remember...
I watched it on rewind this morning, well, that would be generous, I burned through it very quickly on fast forward. Pretty weak effort by a team playing out the string. Yesterday moe said one more year of uncertainty then playoffs, I hope so, but my own personal opinion is they are years away from being competitive and that's only if they can acquire some high end talent. I will say Nick is there and slaf is a possibility but the rest is just yuck.
I read the article in today's Gazette mentioning that Jeff Gorton still has lots of influence in this rebuild. I actually listened to some of his interview on the Sick Podcast and he brought up the signing of FA Panarin when he was running the Rangers. If he can find a high end player like that in free agency or through a trade then there would be some hope of advancing the timeline for the habs to be competitive. Let's cross our fingers that scenario could play out this summer. I know I'm getting tired of watching Suzuki's line get shut down and no hope of anyone else scoring any goals. The 2nd to 4th lines are absolutely pathetic in the offensive zone. It's embarrassing to watch.
Hmmph, no Montreal tonight, there will be even more leaf blowing than usual, will they even mention McDavid? Maybe just mention he is almost as good as narcos.
Wow we are winning the tank war. Today we are in 5 th spot, send Monty to Hawaii and Powerhorse and the first Joel army to Laval. Were number 5 we are number 5. May the scum that killed the concert people in Moscow be identified and dealt with.
I am pleasantly surprised by the play of CP30 since Jake's trade. I wasn't sure he had what it takes, but his frame and style of play remind me a lot of TFS. I'm not saying he's the next Carey Price, but his awareness and reaction time combined with his 6'3" frame is something.
Habs appear to be solid in nets for the near and mid range future, a D corps that could (should) grow into a great Defence. So as we keep repeating, GET MORE GOAL SCORERS. And this team could be in the playoff hunt next year, and be competitive the year after.
I remember the look on his face when he wasn’t picked no 1 I don’t know what kind of a person he is but he looked like a spoiled entitled little bitch at that moment Whereas our Slavester high fived his way through the stands for his interviews I love his attitude Go Habs
I tried the tankathon about 10 times and it was either Columbus and Arizona moving up to 1-2 or teams above the Habs in the standings (ie with more points) moving up in the draft and dropping the Habs to a lower pick. Sounds about right.
I too watched the first period last night. Decided to record the rest of the game and finished watching this morning. Muddy and Button did mention Wright being in the AHL and him NOT progressing on the same trajectory as Slaf. Still, I wouldn't right Shane (pun intended) off just yet. He is only 19 years old as well but was probably to good for the OHL.
It was good to see a game where the Habs forwards finally found the back of the net although 2 goals were scored by the Def. Cheryl Pounder, who I find is way, way better than dumb as a rock Jen B. over at leafnet, but I'm guessing Jen has been told to toe the company line and only praise their leaf. Cheryl was praising the young Habs defence and said the Habs shouldn't rush all these young guys to the NHL. Let them percolate for a year or two in the AHL. I agree, Bach, Rock and Logan would be a version of the Big 3 in Laval while, the current crop in Montreal can hold the fort. And yes, Primo looked good last night, he could possibly be a #1 somewhere else if Jacob Fowler comes calling early.
Button also talked about all the draft picks Hughes and Gorton currently hold and predicted that management will indeed cash in some of those chips for some help up front. They just have to get through this last 10 games with their dignity intact.
I saw an electric Mustang on the road today. Not a fan of the design. Looks like they were shooting for the fastback throwback but I think it looks more like a Toyota. It was a very brief encounter mind you so perhaps it's better if I had more time to study it.
It's like I had a '75 Dodge Dart as my first vehicle. The new Dart looks nothing like the old ones. Hoping folks will buy on nostalgia I guess.
I think the EV version of the Mustang will come along just like when they changed the body years ago it and the VW Beetle took a few years to refine the look. I think the recent Mustang GT has refined into a monster nice car. Looks and sounds as well as performance, The EV version will take a few years of refining. CHesters rule of thumb is never buy the first version wait it out. Go Habs
My good friend bought the Mach III EV Stang last year. She loves it. I find it a bit bulky. She did not buy the kit to make it sound like an OG Stang. The thing is so quiet it hurts. Also, huge dashboard display is too huge. (She had her 2020 Lexus stolen in MTL, got 70k on the insurance). She now listens to me and bough a kit of 4 Apple Air Tags. ~ moe
Juraj Slafkovsky, Montreal Canadiens 2023-24 stats: 67 GP, 14G-22A-36P Slafkovský's jump from 10 points in 39 games as a rookie to 14 goals and 36 points as a sophomore is excellent progress. But the best part about his breakout is that he's looked even better than his improved point totals indicate. The 2022 No. 1 pick was making clear strides even when the production wasn't there early in the season. It's finally all coming together now, as he's scored 12 goals and 28 points in his last 36 games while holding down a top-line role alongside Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufis!g. Slafkoysky is learning how to take advantage of his massive size and reach, but it's his east-west playmaking ability that has surprised me the most. Let's watch the tape of some of these cross-ice assists. Below is a gorgeous saucer pass on the power play against the Blues. Pay attention to Slafkovsky's confidence and assertiveness to slap his stick on the ice and ask for the puck in the first place. Here's a laser-quick reaction to spin and feed Suzuki on the backdoor after winning a loose puck: And this is a confident zone entry where he keeps his head up and whips a beautiful east-west pass that results in a rush goal: All of the premature bust labels can go away: Slafkovsky is already a productive top-six NHL forward at 19.
This is accurate. I watch him closely and it makes watching these games worthwhile just for that. He is a special player - and still learning and growing.
I would love to buy the Mach E Mustang but way too much coin. Our Nissan Leaf gets the job done (for now). The feds need to get off their arses and get some charging infrastructure built. There is not near enough to drive any distance comfortably.
We've got a pretty good start here in Quebec (merci, Mme. Marois) on charging stations. My daughter (in Sherbrooke) got a Leaf second-hand, charges at her home mostly and really loves it.
They missed him, it appeared. So glad his son Mason will be okay (the 16 year-old had suffered a hockey injury, reportedly) and we can look forward to a drive up the standings to finish the season. I believe in MSL.
Heh heh, some of the SFU clowns would like to see their leaf drop down to a wildcard spot to get an 'easier' opponent. Be careful what you wish for ..... "We want Florida" was the rallying cry last spring. How did that turn out again?
I was chatting with a leaf fan at the office this morning and he said the same thing! Then I showed him the standings where the NYR are in first place, so as of right now the #1 wild card spot would play the leader in the Atlantic..."We Want Florida!". They're all very dumb and think it matters if they play Boston or Fla or NYR or Carolina...when in reality we all know they will be lucky if they win one round of playoff hockey with that defence and goaltending. Two is out of the question.
I'm going to watch the first period. Yikes, looking at the two lineups, it doesn't bode well for Marty's young squad. Colorado is a true powerhouse. Keep'er close boys, all we can ask.
Win or lose these are the games that keep me hopeful for the future. They can skate with these guys, play them tough and get good goaltending. Just need a lineup that can do that on a consistent basis.
Just read the toronto sports network write up of the game and they are out little mitchy their D man rein-somebody and their goalie (sort of) Sampson anyway it’s like the is landers weren’t even there what with all that must be said about the leaf sad sad sad Can’t wait till we are on the upswing and they are still paying underpants and jonny toronto 12 mil each We’re just gonna fucking bury them Yesssss Go Habs
They played a great first period. I couldn't believe the score stayed the same when I checked this morning. First win in Denver in a decade. Thanks Coach Marty!
And thanks Jake Allen, I bet there is lots of rosary bead clutching in the CotU today! Tee hee!
Too late for me but a fantastic result to end the road trip. Habs are getting better all the time and the effort they put in will start to pay off. Great for Slaf to hit 40 points. Still one more game before he hits 20. The future looks bright.
Totally agree He was a part of the three blind mice Houle Cory and him what a combination of no minds Thank goodness they are long gone in Hugo we trust Go Habs
Ha ha ha ..... sfu still want their leaf to lose and drop to a wildcard spot. I would laugh my arse off if they dropped right out of a playoff spot. Lose you effers lose!!
Craig Button has updated his Draft list. Celebrini and Demidov are 1, 2 with 3 - 6 defencemen, leaving 4 impact forwards that the Habs can choose from. Unless Montreal wins the lottery, fingers crossed.
Late night games not easy to stay up for. ~ moe

ReplyDeleteI would love to buy the Mach E Mustang but way too much coin. Our Nissan Leaf gets the job done (for now). The feds need to get off their arses and get some charging infrastructure built. There is not near enough to drive any distance comfortably.
ReplyDeleteWe've got a pretty good start here in Quebec (merci, Mme. Marois) on charging stations. My daughter (in Sherbrooke) got a Leaf second-hand, charges at her home mostly and really loves it.
DeleteQC has good EV coverage. Stang EV is way too expensive.
ReplyDelete'Griselda' on Netflix is some good violent Narcos-ish viewing.
ReplyDeleteMarty’s back in the saddle
ReplyDeleteOn to Colorado and our friend Leky
Him or red Barron? Hmmmm
Strokes chin
Jury continues to be out on that one
Go Habs
They missed him, it appeared. So glad his son Mason will be okay (the 16 year-old had suffered a hockey injury, reportedly) and we can look forward to a drive up the standings to finish the season. I believe in MSL.
DeleteHeh heh, some of the SFU clowns would like to see their leaf drop down to a wildcard spot to get an 'easier' opponent. Be careful what you wish for ..... "We want Florida" was the rallying cry last spring. How did that turn out again?
ReplyDeleteI was chatting with a leaf fan at the office this morning and he said the same thing!
DeleteGo Habs Go!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to watch the first period. Yikes, looking at the two lineups, it doesn't bode well for Marty's young squad. Colorado is a true powerhouse. Keep'er close boys, all we can ask.
ReplyDeleteI noticed Colorado are starting some AHL goalie, he will probably play like the second coming of Ken Dryden.
DeleteLast win in Denver was 2014. But you know the boys will come out with a huge effort to welcome MSL back.
DeleteNature! Wow
ReplyDeleteOh Captain my Captain
ReplyDeleteGeez I'm a few minutes tuning in and already 1-1?!
ReplyDeleteWas watching some coverage of the Baltimore bridge. RIP to those who lost their lives in that disaster.
Full Monty on the ball there.
ReplyDeleteJack-Eye gets two minutes for having tremendous upper-body strength.
ReplyDeleteNo extension on that. Not a crosscheck.
DeleteKind of insane that Nate has at least one point in every home game this year.
ReplyDeleteGIFinn!
ReplyDeleteGI Finn!
ReplyDeleteGI Finn ... assist by Hook
ReplyDeleteWin or lose these are the games that keep me hopeful for the future. They can skate with these guys, play them tough and get good goaltending. Just need a lineup that can do that on a consistent basis.
ReplyDeleteOne that doesn't need to skate Colin White.
DeleteFor example, yes 😅
DeleteNot looking good for Roy's Isles to get into the play-offs meanwhile.
ReplyDeleteBest PK of the sesson.
ReplyDeleteWay to go Jake the Snake. Devils over leaf tonight 6-3. 25 saves in the first period. 42 of 45 overall.
ReplyDeleteSuck it SFU.
Boy that trade seemed to do wonders for both Jake and Primo. Too bad it didn't happen in November.
DeleteHuge CHaracter building win. Playoff grade hockey all around.
ReplyDeleteJust read the toronto sports network write up of the game and they are out little mitchy their D man rein-somebody and their goalie (sort of) Sampson anyway it’s like the is landers weren’t even there what with all that must be said about the leaf sad sad sad
ReplyDeleteCan’t wait till we are on the upswing and they are still paying underpants and jonny toronto 12 mil each
We’re just gonna fucking bury them
Yesssss
Go Habs
Can't wait
DeleteWow that's a great win for Marty's return.
ReplyDeletePlay most of the 82 games like that, with some added scoring depth, and this team will be turning some heads by 25/26 if not next year.
What a game. This team is coming together. Good to see a smiling MSL on the bench. ~ moe
ReplyDeleteThey played a great first period. I couldn't believe the score stayed the same when I checked this morning. First win in Denver in a decade. Thanks Coach Marty!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks Jake Allen, I bet there is lots of rosary bead clutching in the CotU today! Tee hee!
Too late for me but a fantastic result to end the road trip. Habs are getting better all the time and the effort they put in will start to pay off. Great for Slaf to hit 40 points. Still one more game before he hits 20. The future looks bright.
ReplyDeleteAlmost forgot...FUCK DA LEAF!
DeleteOh...most important stat from last night...Slaf has permanently removed that fucking POS tremblay from the top of any Hab record book.
DeleteTotally agree
ReplyDeleteHe was a part of the three blind mice
Houle Cory and him what a combination of no minds
Thank goodness they are long gone in Hugo we trust
Go Habs
Ha ha ha ..... sfu still want their leaf to lose and drop to a wildcard spot. I would laugh my arse off if they dropped right out of a playoff spot. Lose you effers lose!!
ReplyDeleteCraig Button has updated his Draft list. Celebrini and Demidov are 1, 2 with 3 - 6 defencemen, leaving 4 impact forwards that the Habs can choose from. Unless Montreal wins the lottery, fingers crossed.
