I am of the opinion that the kind of money he would want could be better spent elsewhere.
I think we are looking in the 25 - 27 age range. We need a sniper to grow with the team.
We would hopefully compete for a PO spot this year and maybe year after look to actually compete. We need time for our D to marinate and solidify. But I think we are down to the short strokes.
      Go Habs

    2. In Jeff Gorton's media gathering before the Draft he was asked, basically, if he was going 'big game hunting' July 1st. He said: "No, it's probably to soon." Fair enough, but could that have been a smoke screen to throw those guys off the scent? Yes, Stamkos is a little older than probably what they are looking for but it doesn't hurt to have a couple of good veterans around. The only players on the Habs are Gallagher and Anderson and they have their productivity issues. If I were Hughes I would certainly inquire to see if Stamkos would be interested in playing for his former team mate. If Stamkos is not looking for crazy money and term I would consider it. He would look good on a line with Dach and Newhook/Roy. Could this be Gorton's 'Panarin' moment in Montreal? Bonus, it would probably make the SFU media hacks sick.

      Delete
    3. I don't see Stamkos leaving TB. Also, not a guy the Habs really need. Stick with the talented youth in the system and watch them all grow together. Lep and Powerhorse, Maths and Savvy are all the veterans needed right now. Unless CHommodore Perry wants to come back for a one-year deal (then we'll know the CH will reach the SCF and implode again, which is really good progress, as hilarious as it would be).

Honestly, I think HuGo is aiming for playoffs this year, maybe getting to contender status in two seasons. This rebuild has more than just one possible Cup run in mind; more like a slow, deliberate push tk be a strong contender for a decade or a generation. Which is gge directikn they wrre initially headed under Gainey, until he made that Gomez trade.

      Delete
    4. From the sounds of it, Stamkos might be done with Tampa low-balling him consistently. I think he's worth Nick Suzuki coin for 3 years. He won't really block anybody, the Habs don't have any high end forwards that can play next year other than Roy.

The hockey Gods are stepping up. After a long period of neglect which started with Killer Krieder accidently taking out Cary price. He never recovered. He did well but never without that Killer Krieder deficiet. The Gods have given us a fortunate son of Russia. The Demi God. I have heard that he can not skate so good. I have heard that he is a communist. I have heard that in English he blew Hugos mind in the interview. For at least 24 hours, they could not speak excpet to say Demi God.

    2. Lapointe and Bobrov are obviously very knowledgeable people, and very articulate. I questioned the Slaf and Bach picks the last two drafts but these guys (and all the scouts) obviously know what they are doing. I hope the Habs can turn the corner soon and win more games than they lose. It may come down to whether Monty and Primeau are good enough. Maybe Hughes is looking at Askarov from Nashville with their long term signing of Saaros. I wonder if Trotz would be interested in one slightly used Powerhorse or GI Finn?

      Delete
    3. I hope GI Finn, and Powerhorse go to the Peg for McGorty. I would take him over Necas. I cant believe we have the Demi God, yes after 30 years we have a real elite elite prospect. Interesting trade for CHevy. Maybe it was not a total loss. Maybe Geekie is not better than Slaf. As for Askarov, if we are afraid to trade Primus what is Nashville thinking trading a blue chip goalie? Maybe he is a bust?

      Delete
    4. I don't think Askarov is a bust but it occurred to me that he would end up blocking Fowler at some point. HuGo will probably just stick with Monty and Primeau for now.

XNay on Stamkosay. Will be too expensive.

I think HuGo will make a play for Draisaitl.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think Stamkos would take less than Suzuki (maybe not much) and sign for 4-5 years. He's 34 so maybe 2 good years left, the rest would be written off as the cap goes up. I think SS would really improve the PP with Rock Hutson (aka fast Lane) feeding him from the blue line. I'm just randomly speculating here and day dreaming a bit. I just hope Marshesault or Perron aren't in the picture.

As for Leon, can't see him leaving Edmonton unless McD does. I'm sure they or their agents discuss this stuff. And Leon will command way, way more money than SS.

  26. The Habs bid adieu to HondaCivic, he will join Jake the Snake in Joisey. Habs get a 4th round pick in 2026, not bad since they got Johnny for free from the 'Peg. Probably opens up a spot for Barron von Klumsy or Logan of Laval.

Hughes even admitted during the post draft media gathering that he knows he has to find more goals. Gorton the same, they know they the capital to make something happen. It might not be today but they will get someone. Probably not Stammer, 20 Cent is already gone, I just hope it's not one of those second rate guys I've been hearing about. I want somebody B I G !!!

    3. Marchessault and his 5'9" 40-goal potential is available, but we've got more than enough sub-6' forwards as it is. Lep and H-P are both 5'9", TJ and Nature both 5'11", Whiskey... Joshua Roy is just barely 6' too.

  37. As Big Game hunters Hughes and Gorton are pretty poor shots or deliberately missing the targets.

Looks like the trade route is where they are going. Probably just as well with the amount of coin being thrown at some of those guys. Nobody is taking any discounts.

  52. Brian Wilde always pushed the narrative the Habs need 50 more goals from somewhere to compete for a playoff spot. If Dach stays healthy could he get 20? How about 10 more from Lep and PowerHorse together? Just need 20 more so how about Nick Ehlers from Winnipeg, only 28, apparently wants a change of scenery. Winnipeg is in win now mode and desperately tried to get a center but was rejected 3 times by $Hab, Henrique and some dude named Lizotte during Free Agent Frenzy. Hughes has a 28 year old center, good checker, great on faceoffs and even former Jet G.I. Finn. Seems like Hughes and Chevy should be able to work something out here and help each other.

    Here's my proposal:
To Winnipeg - Dvo, G.I. Finn, Barron von Klumsy, Calgary 1st in 2025, one of the 2nds in 2025.

He does quite a few already.

As for hockey news, it's pretty dead now but I'm positive KH has files he's working on. I check all the usual Habs sites (including this one) for updates. I don't know about you guys but I'm keeping my expectations at a minimum for the 2024-25 season, playoffs doubtful and a pick in the 10-16 range but that's just for now.
