Wow, everybody must still be in shock after last night's shellacking. My friend who used to scout the Q for the Blues texted me while I was at trivia last night saying that some of the young D belong in the AHL. I agreed with him. If I was HuGo I would be offering picks galore and even some prospects not named Demidov up to get a top 4 veteran D to stabilize the group. For sure #24 belongs in Laval for the year, while 47 and 72 could each use a few weeks or longer there as well. Savard needs to be on the 3rd pairing and PK mostly. There's no point in letting these guys get beat up like last night. They need some help. There are teams out there who are probably thinking rebuild with some vets they would part with for good picks. Please do this asap.
Some interesting side stories for tonight's game. Looks like our young intrepid team will be facing former Habs goalie Charlie Lindgren aka 'Chill' and almost ex-Hab, the one, the only, PLD !
Tank Commander the Full Monty takes a seat tonight with CP30 facing a resurgent Caps team with Tom Wilson and Dylan McIlraith ready to run roughshod over an AX and Pez-less Montreal squad.
All I ask is : Please don't give up 4 goals in the first period so I can stick around for a bit longer than that.
We should still keep in the lose the battle win the war. Let the kids play learn and lose. Just know that the bully will one day eat all the sand kicked in face.
CP30 shutout tonight. I'm basing this on the fact we had 33 trick or treaters, so he'll be channeling Patty Roy. Hopefully not that final game though...
Sooner or later this team is going to realize Price doesn't play for them anymore. Then maybe they can try harder to clear the D zone more efficiently.
nteresting tidbit about Bergy's mistakes. Bergy traded a 1st and 2nd to Arizona for Devo. Az traded that 1st in a package to SJ to move up in the draft to select Conor Geekie. Fast forward 2 years, AZ moves to Utah and they trade Conor Geekie in a package to TB for Sergychev.
All of Bergy's biggest mistakes coming together in one big clusterfuck.
I hate to say it but MSL's shine is wearing off for me. Or is it Kent? The defensive coverage in front of the goalies is atrocious. Whomever that blame belongs to.
If Jeff Gorton was serious about being 'in the mix' for a playoff spot, he can't wait too much longer to pull the trigger to get his young squad some help. They don't need to draft any more 18 year old kids. They can't wait on Wool. Do something please.
Regarding my untouchables comment, I'm not saying all of the other players are not good, just more expendable. Gallagher for instance is having a great start to his year and maybe his dedication to the team, and his blood, sweat and tears (and contract) make him untouchable. There are some real obvious passengers like Dvorak and Armia, and Anderson. On the back end Matheson isn't the same player he was last year, Barron, I keep hoping for improvement, but he's not there. Not sure how much truth there is to the rumour that Hughes is searching for an experienced RD and a forward with grit, but they have a lot of draft capital and some of their younger back end players may just end up on the block (I just hope he sees the value a player like AX brings to the team, even if it means another seasoning stint in Laval).
In 6 of 11 games, they've given up 5 or more goals. And 4 goals in 2 other losses. Something's gotta give.
Like I said, there is no point in letting them get beat up night after night. Eventually your star players will start thinking why am I even here? Guys like DVo and Armia are not helping even a little bit. I'm OK with Anderson and Gallagher they are potting a goal here and there and are fine on Evans line. But man that D is a fucking mess. I don't know how to fix it or even if it can be. Big, BIG trade needed sooner rather than later.
Lane Hutson is a star in the making. He should be running the 1st PP. He can find open people MM cannot. He along with Nick and Cole make the team watchable when they are on the ice. The rest of the time it's just pray they don't get scored on.
I know it’s early but flipping one D man in for another D man and relocating a forward here or there resembles arranging the deck chairs on the titanic We’re clearly in a spot at a time of year not condusive to trades I think the only mix we’re going to be in is a lottery pick It’s tough to grin and bear it at this stage when the blowouts are coming hard and fast Go Habs
I despise all the gambling ads but I do dabble with some small amount betting. I checked the Rocket Richard odds for the current goal leaders...Cole is paying 21:1 and Hischier is paying 51:1. I might try throw a fiver at Whiskey to see if he can pay me out a cool 100...or maybe I'll just pretend to and see if I would have won come April.
EOTP came down hard on Devo Disappointment abounds considering his cost from knee jerk berggi Josh The PK man Gally-A-Tor and Sevens are holding their own Devo and Army are not I know our forward picks are a year at least behind our D picks but these two gotta go We can’t sit and wait for Owen Half-A-Dov and The Hage this season is starting to spin out of control I think something to stabilize must be done Where is the admiral A move for a grizzley vet would be nice Just CHester thoughts Go Habs
I guess it all comes down to what does management think? Do they stand pat and let the chips fall (again) to another top 5 pick? Are they OK with another lost season? The players seemed to be sick of it when they talked about the upcoming season. Are the fans running out of patience and some of the media as well? I know I want to see them win. I want to see a competitive team. I want to see goals scored by the young stars. I want the D give some protection to the goalies. I want to see them climb in the standings. I'm tired of the beatdowns night after night. It's not fun. I don't pretend to know the answers but I wish the people being paid millions to figure this shite out would hurry up and do it. 2021 seems like a long time ago now.
I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. However I dont want to go backwards to move from a bottom feeder to a top of the bottom feeder. The O Dog says that the idea a NHL player cant play a system means not the they cant play a system its means they are not an NHL player. They have been playing systems their whole lives. I want to see us play like the Soviet Red army. Now maybe we refrain from shooting players who cant play the system but everything else in not Nyet Nyet.
They're in a spot they have to work in a lot of youth that needs to gain experience. That Armia and Dvorak are showing the kids all the wrong things to do speaks poorly of them. And they're both in contract years, so one would think...
They had a poor training camp vecause of setbacks and injuries. They have a lot of learning to do and it's painful right now, but I think by December a lot of these hard lessons are going to pay off and their play as a team will improve. It is still a rebuild and nit every part of that is thrilling to sit through.
Those of us that lived through the dynasty years from 1971 - '79 are having a difficult time watching the last few years. Even during the Gauthier and Bergevin regimes a mediocre team could deliver a winning streak and bring spirits up. This year actually reminds me of the beginning of the '21-'22 season when it all went off the rails with Ducharme due to the Weber/Price 'retirements'. I try to approach a game with a little positivity but it soon disappears when the team fails to present any notion that they have learned anything. Complete chaos is really tough to watch so I just turn it off. I try to not read anything the next day. OK, enough grumbling it's a date night tonight so I will check in later. Cheers to all my fellow posters on the best Habs comment site on the web. As an aside, stay away from the cooment section at EOTP, talk about toxic venom... Yikes!
from sept till around now, everybody is running on excitement and anticipation from a new yr, a new start. from nov till about all-star break, a team finds its identity. this is when u declare yourself to be a contender or u conceed to your GM, u are still rebuilding.
the boys need to realise wins dont come easier later in the season.
I see Gallagher and I see 17 skaters all looking for someone else to step up their game. The Rocket would never tolerate that. Need some CHeart in this lineup. Bunch of kids acting like spoiled brats.
OK, I've caught up on pvr delay, after watching those two periods I'm still not seeing a lot of compete from Marty's team. They are playing scared trying to not get scored on, they don't want to give up 5 or more and get another punishment skate. I'm about ready to run up the white flag on another season. Unfortunately.
I know I said I'd keep watching regardless of the amount of suckage, but maybe I'll try the not watching trick which seemed to give them a couple goals last week. Checking out. Good luck fellas.
Like Marty said, they seem to make things difficult for themselves, they won't do the easy play, high and hard off the glass. Too much stickhandling bullshit or trying to beat 3 guys. Just stupid stuff over and over again.
Meh, Devo, Newhook, and Maths are looking like shise. Slaf is regressing. Only bright spot is Monte is back to better than ave. Nice spear on little fuck nut.
I did and he is correct. Whether Laine would have made any difference is debatable but it sure raised hopes. I kind of figured it would take Dach time to get back up to speed. And yes, Newhook is a 3rd liner.
Bottom line, when Matheson and Savard are your two top defenders you are in shit.
Undoubtedly there will be some minor tinkering with the lineup, a trade perhaps and call ups from Laval. But it is a very weak team with a big hill to climb. I think most of their opponents regard them as an easy 2 points. The players say they are sick of losing but they should probably get used to it.
I watched most of the Giants game, flipped back and forth with the Bill's. Like the Habs, NY has lots of rebuilding to do. They have a receiver and a RB, now they need a QB and some additions to the O-line. Probably need a kicker as well as Gano can't stay healthy.
There is some pretty strong chatter from the main 'insiders' that Hughes is getting ready to close out a deal for a couple veterans, one F and one D. DVo may be one of the pieces going the other way. We can only hope.
Hopefully we need a shakeup Only thing that gives me confidence is that Hugo will not do the knee jerk bergi thing Short term and dump some dead weight Maybe a pick if necessary Go Habs
Oorah, if you love US razzle dazzle in pixels, check out Special Ops Lioness led by Zoe the Avatar Girl from Guardians of the Galaxy. More Oorah than Homeland but not quite Maverick. Its got a Last Ship crossed with Homeland vibe. Jax from Anarchy is in season 2, and while season one passes the time flys while your watching test, season two is a biger banger.
I just read that the leaf are apparently experiencing an identity crisis Pause for effect OMG an identity crisis Does this mean that they are not the cup bound opposition crushing scoring machine that everyone in Canada idolizes and slobbers over?!?! Could this happen? Holy fuck we better start sacrificing chickens or something I gotta go lie down Go Habs
I'm cool with Hughes using some of his draft capital if he can get rid of some deadweight and hopefully pick up a couple of vets to stabilize this team. Not likely about winning this year but something to improve the confidence and hopefully the defensive scheme to build for next year and beyond.
That said, this year is not dead yet, but the grave diggers are on the way to the cemetery.
If they only have 6 or 7 wins by the end of November they might not need the grave diggers but they will probably bring in a priest for the last rites.
Early morning practice, extra specialized teaching, coaches raising their voices, sounds like we are not the only ones tired of losing. Kid gloves are coming off?
If the Flames finish 11th overall or lower (12th) e.g., then Montreal gets the pick. If they crash and burn and pick top 10, then Montreal gets Florida's 1st rounder. That's the easiest scenario. I suspect Hughes will be picking top 10 anyway, those bookies in Vegas know more than us obviously.
I am always drinking the Kool aid. Yeah man I walk the 6th astral plane daily, and Astral Weeks plays as the soundtrack to my life. So when I hear, CHocCH, can we not call him LOU after the song CHoaCH. Were else do you get a double CH? Anyway, he want to build a team that plays his system. He dont care to win or lose right now, just learn. We need players who can play LOU hockey, not some stiffs that have a good wrist shot and fast foot speed. Like I said, the Red Army did not care about your individual skills. They only cared you could do circles at center ice and attack again and again until someone had to break and ankle.
They're getting there. They'rd not there yet, but they're learning now how much it takes to get there. So this is okay. Gotta have patience. Slow improvement beats the sort of BS that stirs Leafs fans to think their team is da bomb when it ain't.
There will be no mercy. Take care FHFers. This is gonna hurt. Everything on US soil will be weaponized. I will be deleting a lot on onlne accounts but hopefully not this one.
I doubt much changes south of the border. Sure, the divisiveness will continue, they'll keep shooting each other and so on. The people who should really be worried are any of the ones who launched lawsuits against him for what ever reason. Any Republican who turned their back on him. They are all now targets. If I were any of those people, I would be packing up the U-Haul and driving to the Canadian border and asking for asylum. We, the citizens of Canada, are going to take a kick the groin when he initiates 20% tariffs on anything exported to the U.S. Our cost of living will jump again when our government retaliates. I know one thing, I won't be setting foot across the border for the next 4 years and probably even after that. My passport expires in 2025, I'm probably not going to renew it.
As for the Habs, I've decided that the only games I will be watching are Saturday night's. There will be less frustration and disappointment by reducing my participation. I bought into all the hype during and after the 2024 Draft but no more. All the Habs talking heads preaching patience and the folks who espouse how great the talent pool is, I'm not buying what they are selling anymore.
I feel the pain I personally feel that we should not be getting blown out Ok maybe we don’t win every nite or maybe every second nite but letting in 4 and 6 goals night after night is a indicator of fundamental problems When I’m feeling down in the pooper I remember that this is year 3 of the 5 year plan Although if we’re spose to be competitive in year 5 there seems to be a humongous gap between us now in year three and year 5 So I guess the plan is to keep our powder dry till next year? If so it’s working Go Habs
Have had a massive crush on Teri for forever. 💕

Fuck Bettman and his refs. I don't suppose they've offered up an explanation of that anti-AX call the other night?

Fine...then JFW and fuck 'em all!
Habs giving up 1st goal in under a minute never ends well...
ReplyDeleteHelluva start...
ReplyDeleteTest my case...Monty's not gonna steal this game
ReplyDeleteRest...
Deletedown 2 skip before I can find a link, not good
ReplyDeleteWell this blows ..
ReplyDeleteMonty made a save...

ReplyDeleteWell fuck this game.

No Pez or Ax with Tom Wilson in the line-up seems like a recipe for disaster. No qualms with starting CP30. Nothing should be taken for granted.

DeleteThat being said, the Caps should win but sometimes the unexpected does occur.
We should still keep in the lose the battle win the war. Let the kids play learn and lose. Just know that the bully will one day eat all the sand kicked in face.

ReplyDeleteCP30 shutout tonight.

I had 30... so there you go
DeleteThat was a Hallowe'en treat for us, no goals against in the first 20 minutes. That's outstanding !
ReplyDeleteGuhle's presence matters.
DeleteYes but the D zone play is still mostly a clusterf*ck.
DeleteLol yeah it does look like the timbits chasing pucks at times too.

ReplyDeleteI notice there hasn't been much sfu chatter about getting 70 goals...
ReplyDeleteI watched most of the Giants game, flipped back and forth with the Bill's. Like the Habs, NY has lots of rebuilding to do. They have a receiver and a RB, now they need a QB and some additions to the O-line. Probably need a kicker as well as Gano can't stay healthy.
ReplyDelete~~~
ReplyDeletetom brady is as annoying as collingsworth
There is some pretty strong chatter from the main 'insiders' that Hughes is getting ready to close out a deal for a couple veterans, one F and one D. DVo may be one of the pieces going the other way. We can only hope.
ReplyDeleteI vote Devo and Math off the Island. I dont care if math plays 30 min a night, 15 are shise and the other half are shise.
DeleteHopefully we need a shakeup
ReplyDeleteOnly thing that gives me confidence is that Hugo will not do the knee jerk bergi thing
Short term and dump some dead weight
Maybe a pick if necessary
Go Habs
Oorah, if you love US razzle dazzle in pixels, check out Special Ops Lioness led by Zoe the Avatar Girl from Guardians of the Galaxy. More Oorah than Homeland but not quite Maverick. Its got a Last Ship crossed with Homeland vibe. Jax from Anarchy is in season 2, and while season one passes the time flys while your watching test, season two is a biger banger.
ReplyDelete… with all due respect to longtime FHFer UKXXX, but royal scumlords might be feeling some heat. SFUK
ReplyDeleteI just read that the leaf are apparently experiencing an identity crisis
ReplyDeletePause for effect
OMG an identity crisis
Does this mean that they are not the cup bound opposition crushing scoring machine that everyone in Canada idolizes and slobbers over?!?!
Could this happen?
Holy fuck we better start sacrificing chickens or something
I gotta go lie down
Go Habs
I'm cool with Hughes using some of his draft capital if he can get rid of some deadweight and hopefully pick up a couple of vets to stabilize this team. Not likely about winning this year but something to improve the confidence and hopefully the defensive scheme to build for next year and beyond.
ReplyDeleteThat said, this year is not dead yet, but the grave diggers are on the way to the cemetery.
If they only have 6 or 7 wins by the end of November they might not need the grave diggers but they will probably bring in a priest for the last rites.
ReplyDeleteEarly morning practice, extra specialized teaching, coaches raising their voices, sounds like we are not the only ones tired of losing. Kid gloves are coming off?
ReplyDeleteR.I.P. Murray Sinclair
ReplyDeleteR.I.P. Quincy Jones
Two giants in very different ways
~~~
DeleteLegends. Rest in peace.
Quincy worked on and worked up Frank Sinatra. He was a once in a 100 year guy like Betoven and Mozart.
DeleteTrivia night!
ReplyDeleteFlames are playing well ... (don't we have their 1st round pick?)
ReplyDelete~~~
If the Flames finish 11th overall or lower (12th) e.g., then Montreal gets the pick. If they crash and burn and pick top 10, then Montreal gets Florida's 1st rounder. That's the easiest scenario. I suspect Hughes will be picking top 10 anyway, those bookies in Vegas know more than us obviously.
DeleteI need to clarify : 11th from the BOTTOM, so 22nd overall in the standings I think. I get confused, I am a senior...
ReplyDeleteSTEELERS making some moves.
I am always drinking the Kool aid. Yeah man I walk the 6th astral plane daily, and Astral Weeks plays as the soundtrack to my life. So when I hear, CHocCH, can we not call him LOU after the song CHoaCH. Were else do you get a double CH? Anyway, he want to build a team that plays his system.
ReplyDeleteHe dont care to win or lose right now, just learn. We need players who can play LOU hockey, not some stiffs that have a good wrist shot and fast foot speed. Like I said, the Red Army did not care about your individual skills. They only cared you could do circles at center ice and attack again and again until someone had to break and ankle.
Good choice for Molson Cup. Whiskey, nice job!
ReplyDeleteWhat's this I'm seeing?
ReplyDeleteIs it...effort? Nice.
Lllllllllep!
ReplyDeleteBah that is offside
ReplyDeleteThis team is so frustrating and disappointing to watch.
ReplyDeleteThey're getting there. They'rd not there yet, but they're learning now how much it takes to get there. So this is okay. Gotta have patience. Slow improvement beats the sort of BS that stirs Leafs fans to think their team is da bomb when it ain't.
DeletePowerhorse was not offside, we won. America had a CHoice between stupid and crazy and CHose Crazy. May God have mercy on our souls.
ReplyDeleteThere will be no mercy. Take care FHFers. This is gonna hurt. Everything on US soil will be weaponized. I will be deleting a lot on onlne accounts but hopefully not this one.
DeleteThis world is now totally fucked
ReplyDeleteI doubt much changes south of the border. Sure, the divisiveness will continue, they'll keep shooting each other and so on. The people who should really be worried are any of the ones who launched lawsuits against him for what ever reason. Any Republican who turned their back on him. They are all now targets. If I were any of those people, I would be packing up the U-Haul and driving to the Canadian border and asking for asylum. We, the citizens of Canada, are going to take a kick the groin when he initiates 20% tariffs on anything exported to the U.S. Our cost of living will jump again when our government retaliates. I know one thing, I won't be setting foot across the border for the next 4 years and probably even after that. My passport expires in 2025, I'm probably not going to renew it.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Habs, I've decided that the only games I will be watching are Saturday night's. There will be less frustration and disappointment by reducing my participation. I bought into all the hype during and after the 2024 Draft but no more. All the Habs talking heads preaching patience and the folks who espouse how great the talent pool is, I'm not buying what they are selling anymore.
ReplyDeleteI feel the pain
ReplyDeleteI personally feel that we should not be getting blown out
Ok maybe we don’t win every nite or maybe every second nite but letting in 4 and 6 goals night after night is a indicator of fundamental problems
When I’m feeling down in the pooper I remember that this is year 3 of the 5 year plan
Although if we’re spose to be competitive in year 5 there seems to be a humongous gap between us now in year three and year 5
So I guess the plan is to keep our powder dry till next year?
If so it’s working
Go Habs
