  14. Wow, everybody must still be in shock after last night's shellacking. My friend who used to scout the Q for the Blues texted me while I was at trivia last night saying that some of the young D belong in the AHL. I agreed with him. If I was HuGo I would be offering picks galore and even some prospects not named Demidov up to get a top 4 veteran D to stabilize the group. For sure #24 belongs in Laval for the year, while 47 and 72 could each use a few weeks or longer there as well. Savard needs to be on the 3rd pairing and PK mostly. There's no point in letting these guys get beat up like last night. They need some help. There are teams out there who are probably thinking rebuild with some vets they would part with for good picks. Please do this asap.

  15. Some interesting side stories for tonight's game. Looks like our young intrepid team will be facing former Habs goalie Charlie Lindgren aka 'Chill' and almost ex-Hab, the one, the only, PLD !

Tank Commander the Full Monty takes a seat tonight with CP30 facing a resurgent Caps team with Tom Wilson and Dylan McIlraith ready to run roughshod over an AX and Pez-less Montreal squad.

All I ask is : Please don't give up 4 goals in the first period so I can stick around for a bit longer than that.

    That's all I got.

    1. No Pez or Ax with Tom Wilson in the line-up seems like a recipe for disaster. No qualms with starting CP30. Nothing should be taken for granted.

That being said, the Caps should win but sometimes the unexpected does occur.

Az traded that 1st in a package to SJ to move up in the draft to select Conor Geekie.
Fast forward 2 years, AZ moves to Utah and they trade Conor Geekie in a package to TB for Sergychev.

All of Bergy's biggest mistakes coming together in one big clusterfuck.

  33. If Jeff Gorton was serious about being 'in the mix' for a playoff spot, he can't wait too much longer to pull the trigger to get his young squad some help. They don't need to draft any more 18 year old kids. They can't wait on Wool. Do something please.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Regarding my untouchables comment, I'm not saying all of the other players are not good, just more expendable. Gallagher for instance is having a great start to his year and maybe his dedication to the team, and his blood, sweat and tears (and contract) make him untouchable.
There are some real obvious passengers like Dvorak and Armia, and Anderson. On the back end Matheson isn't the same player he was last year, Barron, I keep hoping for improvement, but he's not there.
Not sure how much truth there is to the rumour that Hughes is searching for an experienced RD and a forward with grit, but they have a lot of draft capital and some of their younger back end players may just end up on the block (I just hope he sees the value a player like AX brings to the team, even if it means another seasoning stint in Laval).

In 6 of 11 games, they've given up 5 or more goals. And 4 goals in 2 other losses. Something's gotta give.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Just saw the replay of Josh putting down Tom Wilson after a hit in Guhle. I've granted him a temporary reprieve.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Like I said, there is no point in letting them get beat up night after night. Eventually your star players will start thinking why am I even here? Guys like DVo and Armia are not helping even a little bit. I'm OK with Anderson and Gallagher they are potting a goal here and there and are fine on Evans line. But man that D is a fucking mess. I don't know how to fix it or even if it can be. Big, BIG trade needed sooner rather than later.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Lane Hutson is a star in the making. He should be running the 1st PP. He can find open people MM cannot. He along with Nick and Cole make the team watchable when they are on the ice. The rest of the time it's just pray they don't get scored on.

I know it’s early but flipping one D man in for another D man and relocating a forward here or there resembles arranging the deck chairs on the titanic
We’re clearly in a spot at a time of year not condusive to trades
I think the only mix we’re going to be in is a lottery pick
It’s tough to grin and bear it at this stage when the blowouts are coming hard and fast

  40. I despise all the gambling ads but I do dabble with some small amount betting.
I checked the Rocket Richard odds for the current goal leaders...Cole is paying 21:1 and Hischier is paying 51:1.
I might try throw a fiver at Whiskey to see if he can pay me out a cool 100...or maybe I'll just pretend to and see if I would have won come April.

I know our forward picks are a year at least behind our D picks but these two gotta go
We can’t sit and wait for Owen Half-A-Dov and The Hage this season is starting to spin out of control
I think something to stabilize must be done

A move for a grizzley vet would be nice
    Just CHester thoughts

  43. I guess it all comes down to what does management think? Do they stand pat and let the chips fall (again) to another top 5 pick? Are they OK with another lost season? The players seemed to be sick of it when they talked about the upcoming season. Are the fans running out of patience and some of the media as well? I know I want to see them win. I want to see a competitive team. I want to see goals scored by the young stars. I want the D give some protection to the goalies. I want to see them climb in the standings. I'm tired of the beatdowns night after night. It's not fun. I don't pretend to know the answers but I wish the people being paid millions to figure this shite out would hurry up and do it. 2021 seems like a long time ago now.

I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. However I dont want to go backwards to move from a bottom feeder to a top of the bottom feeder. The O Dog says that the idea a NHL player cant play a system means not the they cant play a system its means they are not an NHL player. They have been playing systems their whole lives. I want to see us play like the Soviet Red army. Now maybe we refrain from shooting players who cant play the system but everything else in not Nyet Nyet.

    ReplyDelete
  46. When it comes to our Habs players we tend to see them through bleu, blanc et rouge glasses. I'm starting think some of them just aren't very good.

    ReplyDelete
  47. They don't have a generational player to build around. Nor do they have elite goaltending anymore. It's a bad recipe.

    ReplyDelete
  48. They're in a spot they have to work in a lot of youth that needs to gain experience. That Armia and Dvorak are showing the kids all the wrong things to do speaks poorly of them. And they're both in contract years, so one would think...

They had a poor training camp vecause of setbacks and injuries. They have a lot of learning to do and it's painful right now, but I think by December a lot of these hard lessons are going to pay off and their play as a team will improve. It is still a rebuild and nit every part of that is thrilling to sit through.

    1. Those of us that lived through the dynasty years from 1971 - '79 are having a difficult time watching the last few years. Even during the Gauthier and Bergevin regimes a mediocre team could deliver a winning streak and bring spirits up. This year actually reminds me of the beginning of the '21-'22 season when it all went off the rails with Ducharme due to the Weber/Price 'retirements'. I try to approach a game with a little positivity but it soon disappears when the team fails to present any notion that they have learned anything. Complete chaos is really tough to watch so I just turn it off. I try to not read anything the next day. OK, enough grumbling it's a date night tonight so I will check in later. Cheers to all my fellow posters on the best Habs comment site on the web. As an aside, stay away from the cooment section at EOTP, talk about toxic venom... Yikes!

  73. I did and he is correct. Whether Laine would have made any difference is debatable but it sure raised hopes. I kind of figured it would take Dach time to get back up to speed. And yes, Newhook is a 3rd liner.

Bottom line, when Matheson and Savard are your two top defenders you are in shit.

Undoubtedly there will be some minor tinkering with the lineup, a trade perhaps and call ups from Laval. But it is a very weak team with a big hill to climb. I think most of their opponents regard them as an easy 2 points. The players say they are sick of losing but they should probably get used to it.

If I were any of those people, I would be packing up the U-Haul and driving to the Canadian border and asking for asylum. We, the citizens of Canada, are going to take a kick the groin when he initiates 20% tariffs on anything exported to the U.S. Our cost of living will jump again when our government retaliates. I feel the pain
I personally feel that we should not be getting blown out
Ok maybe we don’t win every nite or maybe every second nite but letting in 4 and 6 goals night after night is a indicator of fundamental problems
When I’m feeling down in the pooper I remember that this is year 3 of the 5 year plan
Although if we’re spose to be competitive in year 5 there seems to be a humongous gap between us now in year three and year 5
So I guess the plan is to keep our powder dry till next year?
    If so it’s working
    Go Habs
