MSL: what are we gonna do? Devo: throw up all over ourselves! MSL: HUH? Devo: oh, I thought I heard you saying that, coach. MSL: Deve, Deve, Deve, no! That's what you should not do! It's bad. Please stop! STOP doing it!! Throwing up on yourself is bad! Not good. No
I responded to our west coast friend oleg on the previous thread so I've copied it over here:
not watching this homestand live, but following on highlites. 1. is it just me, or does sportsnet have better highlites than nhl.com? not much different, but usually a little longer?
2. is it just me, or have the boys found a lot of energy since St. Patrick 2.0 has joined the line-up?
3. is it just me, or is powerhouse playing really well this yr (in general). every highlite, i can see him busting in on goal, delivering a big hit, dropping the gloves... basically doing everything he was supposed to be doing... except cashing his chances... 'sigh'
4. speaking of this... is it just me, or are the boys really really good at creating grade-a chances and almost always failing to finish? this isnt just limited to one-off chances by barron, dvork, lipp, whoever is in the right place at the right time, but for even guys like cpt nick, CC, and heineman?

the Maritimer7:58 PM 1. I don't use either site so can't comment.
2. It seems like they are playing better, but they actually were before Wool came back.
3. The now ponyhorse has reinvented himself, playing more of a checking, shit disturber role, killing penalties and potting the odd goal. He is delivering more hits and has won a couple of big fights, he has earned his spot.
4. You're not wrong, they do leave a lot of grade A chances unfinished especially breakaways as we witnessed against Washington last week.
5. Yes, they are kind of hanging around a wildcard spot but I wouldn't hold my breath. They are still a bottom feeder with a lot of teams in front of them. They would need a good 6 or 7 game win streak to get into the (real) picture and play .500 or better to get in.
Cheers!

oleg4:30 PM 5. season isnt lost. all i wanted was for them to still be alive come xmas/ St.P's return, and i have my wish. if they average 3-2-1 rest of way, ide be satisfied with whatever fate befals them. GYFHG! aside from upgrading our goaltender position, i feel legitimately encouraged they can get some coaches fired in the playoffs!
Primeau must have some wicked stats after that. Might as well just put a pylon in the net. To go along with the other 6 skating, err standing around in front.
One of the headlines at EOTP this morning -- "The Montreal Canadiens are Quitters" -- that may have been true in the 3rd period last night. I quit myself after Pitt got the 5th goal, you could feel the collapse coming. At this point does it matter any more? They are half way through the '5 Year Plan', maybe they will improve, maybe not. If HuGo are content to let things stand then a top 5 pick will be there in 2025. If they want to compete until March or April then a change of some sort has to happen. And soon. My own take, and many others I'm sure, is they need some help. That is not some 19 year old in Russia or a 20 year old in Laval. They need a good 30ish center to take some heat of Nick. They need another Monahan. Maybe a Kadri is available? Hughes has tons of high picks in 2025. He should be able to help his team out. They need a good, veteran leader like Monahan was. I read an article this morning on Radio-Canada, after the game last night Kris Letang explicitly said 'you can't win with all young players 25 and under.' Montreal does not have a veteran like Bryan Rust or Sid or Letang who can lift a team up. Guys like Armia, Anderson, Dvorak or even Gallagher can do that. They are role players only. Kirby Dach is a shadow of himself, Slafkovsky is currently lost and regressing. Laine needs time. So, if HuGo are sticking to 'the plan' then we can expect more blowouts like this occasionally. And that's too bad because it doesn't need to happen.
I kind of expected a tough year for the teams I root for. Montreal, New York football team, even the Sea Dogs are rebuilding but you expect that from your Junior hockey team. No, I was hoping for the Habs to be somewhat competitive, maybe .500, and I thought the Giants might win 5 or 6 games but what a disaster they are. Golf starts in a few weeks...
Saint Paddy9:52 AM Sid got booed at home after the beatdown by his Cole Harbour buddy Nate, and hasn't scored in 7 games. Sounds like a recipe for a big night for him in Montreal. Maybe even a hat trick.
Now it was only an assist hat trick, but I stand by my prediction.
The Saint John Sea Dogs won back to back games yesterday and today winning 5-4 both times, an OT win Friday against Cape Breton and today in a SO over the Bathurst (soon to be St. John's) Titan. A good way to end the first half of the QMJHL season with a young rebuilding team playing .500 hockey with a 16-16 record. If only the Habs could muster the effort to get to that level I'd be happy.

Can they please just dispose of this bunch of hasbeens?
ReplyDeleteAs noted, at least 3 clear cut looks and they put them right into the goalie's crest.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Sid is getting fed up with Guhle. Which means Ghoul is doing his job. Way to go kid!
ReplyDeleteMatheson you bum.
ReplyDeleteMaths has a case of the "Young kids at home at the end of a long homestanditis" - he'll do well with a road trip.

ReplyDeleteGI Finn!
ReplyDeletePens score from impossible angle. Habs continue to miss grade A chances. I think the writing's on the wall for this one.
ReplyDeleteAnd just like that Army gets redemption!
ReplyDeleteWhere's the second line, are they even playing tonight? Did Marty bench the whole lot of them?

Another lost season, we have become experts at this.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed many other teams media are referring to Montreal as 'the lowly Habs'.
