  1. Happy New Year FHFers! May your 2025 be healthy, happy and Habby.

What a way to end 2024!

  2. I watched the 3rd period on the Canada/USA game last night, Hockey Canada sure messed up picking that team.

  3. Reaching .500 by the end of the year after a horrid start is quite an accomplishment. Kudos to Coach Marty and all his staff on sticking with their plan. It's finally paying dividends aided by the arrival of three key players, Wool, RoCH and Kirby along with the revival of Pony and Gally. Add in some clutch goaltending and it's a new ball game. Time will tell if they are still 'in the mix' come March.

Meanwhile, Montreal is in freefall in the Tankathon standings and I'm OK with it. I don't think Hughes and company need to pick 12 times this June, lots of wheeling and dealing to be had.

  6. I'm gonna start 25 with something I noticed on Doobies first start. I know he's 6'5 so a comparison is easy...but some of his gloves moves and leg kicks were...dare I say it...Drydenesque...too early to hang a big tag like that on the kid but I wanted to put it out here - wondering if it was just me?

  8. I'm thinking Habs fans should send thank you's to Barry Trotz for a) outbidding Kent Hughes for Marchessault and 2) gifting Alex Carrier to the Habs for Barron Von Klumsy just before Christmas.

    2. Indeed! Turns out shifting from coaching to managing ain't so easy.

Got to admit though, I feel a little bad for Barron. Lots of bad press out there already after only 3 games with his new club (0g, 0a, -3). Hope he withstands the onslaught.

    3. Good kid but a career AHLer. Nothing showed me otherwise. Europe might be more suited to his game with the bigger rinks. There are worse outcomes.

    Yes feel bad for him
He was sent down after a short tryout
Hugo had high hopes for him righty D and he parlayed
Don’t know how he ever became such a high D pick
He’s timid be better at soccer or cooking
Not a D man in this NHL

  10. Don't get me wrong I'm not gloating about that trade, I had high hopes for a good Nova Scotia lad. In his first game at the Bell Center I remember his elite skating, how he could walk the blue line in the o-zone with backwards skating crossovers and a good shot. But, he somehow lost his confidence and fumbled the puck way too many times as the last man back, when he and Matheson were on the ice together you were holding your breath and praying they didn't turn it over, which they did frequently. I didn't want Barron to get the Breezer treatment, it was best for him to move on. I hope he finds success in Nashville.

  11. If Hockey Canada (and TSN) thinks that leaf prospects are going to lead them to a gold medal, they may want to rethink that notion. Look at last year, the Canadian team led by Easton Cowan and Fraser Minten got bounced in the quarter finals by the Czechs and looks like a repeat performance tonight with the same Mr. Cowan who was hyped by the leafblowers on the TSN panel early in the tourney. I think it looks good on them. Very poorly picked team with questionable coaching.

    ReplyDelete
  12. CHester9:21 PM

They were being questioned on the player selections from the outset
Lots of high scoring kids left off the team
Wouldn’t want to think they wanted certain players to be the stars
    Hmmm. Strokes chin
Anyway this turney is an embarrassment in our place after all and all management should be tarred and feathered and run out of town

  15. Shifting focus. It's a bit early for scoreboard watching as lots can happen in the next 45 games, but it's fun to watch. A hot streak can vault a team into the wildcard. A cold streak can send them back to the basement. So don't pay any attention to the talking heads who, just because they're paid to yak on the telly, think they know anymore than we do regarding what is going to happen with our or any other team.

That said, last night was a really good night for the Habs.
Bruins lost in regulation. They sit in the 3rd spot in the division, 7 points up on the Habs but have played 3 more games.
FLA lost in regulation. They're not a target, but that's still good.
Detroit, who is behind us, beat Columbus, who is ahead of us. In regulation. Check.
Senaturds lost in regulation. Excellent. Equal games played. 3 points ahead in the last wild card spot.
Philly (one point ahead, 2 games more played) lost in regulation. Nice!
TB lost...to San Jose...in regulation. Bwahahahaha. This team more than any, like the M, I am looking forward to its downfall. Maybe this is the beginning. I see the attendance of that game in SJ was just over 11,000.

In conclusion, it would have been a perfect night except the leaf won. Now they beat the Isles who are just behind the Habs, so it's actually a good thing. Except it's never a good thing when they win. Good news is they could run the table but then run into their greatest nemesis anyway...the playoffs.

    CHEERS FHFers!

Slaf has a similar frame. He'll never be the elite scorer, but he should watch Laine video to see how he handles himself with and without the puck.

    1. If Slafkovsky should watch anyone I would recommend Cole Caufield or Brendan Gallagher. Players half his size but twice the heart. Cole has speed to burn and a sniper's shot. Does Slafkovsky even know how to shoot? And Lep is fearless going to the net. If 20 could figure that out he would prosper. Plus, those two along with Suzuki spent time in Junior, NCAA and the AHL until they were ready. That's where things went wrong with JS and to a certain extent Dach who went straight to the NHL.

  41. My oldest bro, only 61, has to go into an assisted living residence. So my other bros are cleaning out his apt. He collected a lot of hockey cards. They sent me a pic of some including a Guy Lafleur. It is a head shot, and in the lower right corner is a puck graphic and it says DEFENSE. I'm thinking maybe that is worth some money. He kept them in good condition, but not mint so my bro says other than Mario's rookie card they probably aren't worth more than a couple hundred total (there are hundreds of cards).

Anyway just wondering if anybody recalls that card. My bro with the memory says he remembers he was in grade 2 when that card came out because he remembers the big head. So 71 or 72.

    2. Just did a quick check on that card, it's a 1975-76 card that is a headshot with and 'uncorrected error' which is the defense word on the front. In good shape it's worth about $37.00.

    3. That sounds right. Thanks!
I asked my brother and he told me he was in grade 5, not 2 (my mistake), which lines up.

During that series in 2021, whenever the Habs scored a goal the camera would immediately pan to matthews on the bench focussing on his hang dog face. I'll bet Weber, Chiarot and Edmundson enjoyed beating on him when he would venture occasionally to the net, which wasn't often.

  84. moe - good luck to your Steelers.
They simply have to beat Lamar Jackson, then Pat Mahomes, then Josh Allen for a chance to play for the Superbowl. No sweat.

  85. So my Giants are standing pat with their GM and HC. They pick 3rd overall so I wonder if they will be able to move up and get their QB or take the BPA? I believe Tennessee would take a QB, not so sure about Cleveland who are already paying Watson large and also have Jamesis Winston as backup. Plus, there are some half decent FA QBs who will be available, maybe as a place holder?

    1. Apparently the Lions OC is a hot commodity and on the Pats' request to interview list. The thing is when you have an offence with that many gifts, is it really down to coaching? Or is Johnson just in the right place at the right time?
I still say the Pats look to Vrabel. Then he will hire Josh McDaniels as OC and Matt Patricia as DC lol.

  86. really looking fwd to the match tn, even if its impossible to get on amazon.

the latest rumours i hear is that they get back miller but have to give up
    logan + owen + savard + 1R pick + 2R pick

for me, that is an absurd overpay. and between him and peterson, he is also definitely the wrong guy to take back.

    1. Zero chance Hughes would make that deal. Miller only wants to go to an American team anyway.

  89. Rumour out there that a new deal is coming for 7Evans, I was never worried Hughes was going to trade him. To valuable to the bottom 6 to let him go.
