EP Rinkside has ranked the Montreal Canadiens #3 in their NHL Prospect Pool list.

    Their top 10 Habs prospects:

    1- Ivan Demidov

    2- David Reinbacher

    3- Lane Hutson

    4- Joshua Roy

    5- Jacob Fowler

    6- Michael Hage

    7- Owen Beck

    8- Logan Mailloux

    9- Adam Engström

    10- Emil Heineman

    1. Strong prospect pool. Are we there yet? Probably not, I read the other day they are the 2nd youngest team in the NHL with the Sabres being first. Experience plays a big role as Florida showed this past spring with that previous year's deep run. So, I guess we should temper our expectations and hope for a competitive team. I will say though, the 1986 Habs won with 9 rookies led by Bobby Smith, Ryan Walter, Bob Gainey and Larry Robinson.

  41. Tough OT loss for my Pat's. Oh well., this was one of the four games I thought they might win this year. Last week's win was a bonus so they've evened out. Need another top 5 pick to find a stud left tackle to protect their future QB.

    Congrats moe.
M- we'll be battling it out for a nice high pick again, but I suspect your guys will be looking for a QB so no conflicting requirements .

    ReplyDelete
  42. My Giants played a good road game. Lost their kicker on the opening play so they lost 3 points on their 3 TDs and had to go for it every time on 4th down. Washington won with seven, count'em 7 field goals. QB Jones didn't lose the game or commit any turnovers so kudos to him. Malik Nabers is the real deal and gives me some hope. The Giants D played well but it was only Wash. so there is that. Agreed, it will be another top 5 pick in 2025 for my G-Men and it will be a QB, they have the next guy picked out already.
Congrats on the W to moe, the Steelers sure are lucky Justin Fields fell into their lap, sheesh, Caleb Williams ain't looking so hot tonight.

Meanwhile, I see the unlucky Blue Jackets have signed JVR for this season but they are way below the salary cap floor. It would not surprise me to see TFS' contract end up there.

  44. Sid showing what a class act he is and what it means to put the team ahead of everything else. There are certain players on a certain team (don't want to sully our pages with the name) that could take a page out of his playbook if they think they are in win now mode. But they will languish for years instead.

That said, just because he's signed doesn't mean he couldn't agree to a move to the Habs at the deadline if the Pens are faltering and the Habs surprise their detractors and are in a playoff position. Right?!

    ReplyDelete
  45. “One of the players texted me and said, ‘Lane Hutson is going to make a run for the Calder this year,’” Friedman said. “They’re sitting there and saying ‘Can you believe what this kid can do?’”

I don't believe for one second that a member of the Montreal Canadiens texted the fried man. I think it's the fried man saying it himself but doesn't want to upset his overlords. Personally I think that's a very tall order to fill...maybe fried man is putting it out there to try to put more pressure on the young man. Who knows.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Here is my prediction for Rock Fast Lane Hutson:

He starts the season in Montreal and they keep him there. He will be brought along by MSL and get 2nd PP time. I believe he can survive (and thrive) in the NHL because of his smarts as well as his ankle breaking skills. As far as the ROY Calder chances, it will depend on how many points he puts up because he will be going up against some high end forwards, Celebrini, Michkov, McGroarty, Gauthier, etc. It would be a long shot but anything is possible.

On a side note, one of the amateur Habs gossip sites are speculating on Nick Ehlers (Winnipeg) possibly joining his buddy Laine in Montreal, possibly at the trade deadline. Ehlers will be UFA at the end of the year and contract talks are not going well. If Montreal is still in contention by then, maybe Hughes will be a buyer instead of a seller. Lots to look forward to this season. Bring it on!

I know Vikings glory is well in the past. For those who did not watCH Vikings Vahalla, there is no Rangor Lothbrooke. However should he come to Montreal, we could invade Paris at our leisrure. Have you heard Coach ( yes you should be listening to Lou Reed say it) is going to take over the PP. Rock Fast Lane will be the AI on this former basket case. Put his name on Rookie of the Year and the Noriss right now.

  52. Swayman probably wants in the $8.5 range. It's steep for a goalie...we would know...but the cap has increased considerably since that 10.5m TFS contract, so it's less than 10% of the cap which will continue to rise.

So I think it would be awesome if Kent offer sheeted the Broons' keeper at 8.5ish.
It would cost a 1st, 2nd and 3rd next year. They have 2 firsts, 2 seconds and 3 thirds so would still have picks in each round.
No offence to our guys but I just don't see them as franchise goalies.

  85. That Kapanen - Heineman - ABB line was the best trio all night long. 2 of the 3 got stars along with Fast Lane who was #1. A shared shutout by CP30 and Dobie Gillis, great way to start the season. We have suffered the last 3 years but I feel the Habs are about to turn the corner.

“He played an excellent game. I tip my hat to our scouting staff. I didn’t know (Oliver) Kapanen. It’s not just him, we have a lot of talented, young players. They more or less all stood out tonight…it’s fun to have this depth of talented (young) players.”

Only saw the highlights but things are looking tentatively seriously up
      OK looked really OK
Could be conditioning but he had moves
Also I think the hype machine should tone it down a bit on fast lane
He’s just a kid and this place can crush you
Overall we are spinning the right way
It’s been a bit of a wait but I think we are emerging from the darkness into the light
We are being carefully crafted and steered by intelligent competent people
      It’s a new dawn people

  89. Good to see Pomme back in Montreal. Hope he does well with NJ.

If you can stomach the incredible Toronto bias, the TSN Overdrive guys are in Montreal for the golf tournament this week. They talked quite a bit about the Habs tonight. Jeff Gorton is going to be on the show tomorrow.

  96. Jeff Gorton used the phrase 'in the mix' again.

I think that's fair that they need to take a step and move up the standings, and yes be in the mix for a playoff spot. I think they have a great shot at a wild card if they stay healthy.

But next year it's time, without question. Playoffs or bust.
The following year they begin to be perennial contenders, hopefully bringing it home.

The leaves will be trotting out their NHL lineup tonight they say. Minus captain underpants and some other leaf. Patches The Traitor will be in leaf uniform they say. Marty will be keeping his powder dry. I'm liking the matchup. We will be dressing lots of prospects up front and lots of heavies in the back.
Looking forward to this. First game on the road in the mausoleum to boot.
    Bring it on.

  100. I just saw Marty's lineup for tonight ... Ouch, probably best to avert our eyes for this one. The wretched putrid leaf have their NHL team minus Narcos and Woll while the Habs top trio up front is ... awful. I think I will be watching the Giants/Cowboys tonight. Or the Crave Habs doc. Go Habs just in case!

I’m up for this one just the way it is
I’m thinking our D is what’s being tested tonight
If we’re gonna score great but let’s see what the D is capable of
Those smelly leaves can score so we’ll see what’s what
Besides we also have NFL and a hurricane if things go down the pooper
But if they run us out of the mausoleum doesn’t say much for our defense
      Go Habs

      Delete
    2. You are probably right about testing the D. The oldest one is AX and he will be tasked with keeping Fast Lane safe from Reeves as well. The stinky leaves will no doubt try to run up the score as they are 0-2 to start the pre-season and the tranna natives are getting restless already. It could get ugly.

    3. At 23 and < 100 pro games played, Ax is our senior d-man tonight. Heh!

Is the egg man a face puncher?
I think not so it’s definitely Strudel time
    Anyway
I’d like to see our D men rise up and shut down the leaf and maybe that capo kid can pop a couple or maybe fast lane

I liked the look of dobbie
Square calm and challenges the shooter with Fowler the ruskie and the two we have now
      The net seems solid
We have to remember that this was basically the leaf we were playing tonight without most of us so good on les boyz
Laid a couple of sold hits as well
Just a feeling but I’m thinking Barron von clumsy is not long for us he seems to be more focused on skating around in the offensive zone than being a crushing D man
      He’s too delicate
      Anyway CHesters thoughts

    2. I saw better stuff from Strobelight and FastLane than Red Baron tonight. As always, the Barron can't handle reception of the puck at the opposition blue line. He seems to be easily pressured into fumbles and it's like he's battling himself in those situations - and nobidy's winning. It must frustrate his teammates to no end.

  114. Yep was hoping that Baron Von Clumsy was going to turn it around and be part of that top 6 so. Hab could host a Stanley Cup parade here in Halifax one day in the not too distant future. But I think it's not in the cards for him.
Interesting though because I'm pretty sure he signed a one way contract so he would be claimed on waivers if sent to the minors. Guess he'll be part of a trade package sooner than later maybe?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I always root for Maritimer kids to make it but, von Klumsy doesn't seem to have the confidence needed to play NHL minutes. He's still quite young so could still pan out. He would definitely get claimed on waivers so he will be sticking with the Habs until Logan or Bach are ready. There are teams looking for right shot D so he would be easy to trade.

    1. MnM is going no where. Same for Big Savvy, if the Habs want to 'be in the mix' they need those two guys. Kaliyev is hurt I believe anyway Besides, HuGo has to trade a forward to make room for Kapo or Beck. I'm keeping the Pez, love that guy.

      Delete
    2. CHester2:56 AM

      Yup
Gotta keep The Pez he has a unique skill set
Dunno if capo is ready for the show
He looked great against the rookies but wasn’t sure if he played against the leaf
      However Mr Beck looks ready
And I agree about keeping MnM and maybe Savvy but I’m sure a deal will come to Hugo to pry Savvy away but I think we need to package up a von klumsy devo deal to make room for the beckster and either Logan or Rino
I think it’s important to package klumsy before he gets stale
Capo can wait for army to expire
He needs another year to grow
      Anyway
      I should sleep
      Go Habs

      Delete
    3. I'm not sure Savvy is going anywhere. A lot of that is just media speculation and armchair GMs wishful thinking. He wants to stay in Montreal. If, IF, the team is 'in the mix' come the TDL, HuGo will be a buyer, not a seller. He has more draft picks than he knows what to do with. He will use those picks as ammo in any trade deals that come along to help make the playoffs if that scenario arises.

      Delete
  116. Coach Marty is not wasting any time getting his squad ready. He knows who he wants on his team and wants to come out of the gate flying and put up as many points as possible right off the bat. Looks like some of the young guns will have to wait another year and that's OK.
